"It could be, as you say, a silly infatuation." I said, confidently.
She was about to enter the store through the backdoor but stopped half-way upon hearing me. Her soft fingers encircled around the knob tightened their grip, as she turned back curiously. With her gaze down upon me, she stood there with her one hand in pocket and the other on the knob and waited for me to speak further. For some reason, she knew that I wasn't finished. Still, her eyes were gentle and devoid of any disgust.
"Even my friend would agree with you."
"You do realise that you have only watched me. That is quite unsettling, you know."
"I am not sure how to justify myself. My intentions were harmless."
She was quiet. Gesturing me to go on, I did.
"I wasn't intending to tell you so soon. I just got nervous. You are quite different from how you appear from by the counter,"
"You mean taller than you expected,"
"No, it is not just about that. Do not ask me further, please."
To be honest, I expected her to insist on my telling all the details. But, she respected my request. Instead of bugging me, she nodded, turn around, and opened the door that made the most awful creak I had ever heard. People my age tend to be overly curious and demanding; they want to know. Nothing should remain hidden. This is, especially, the case when you are the subject of a discussion. If I were on the other side, I would have bugged her endlessly until she told me everything. Aren't twenty-one year old like that? To know everything there is in this world because we think that we can know everything in this world.
Beckoning me to follow her, I walked into the store, thinking that that day would be the last of her I would see. Little did I know that that would be the first of the many days with her!
