Chapter 4 - The orchid blooms

He laid there, thoughtless, speechless. He tried to get up, though nothing moved. He tasted a metal biter liquid forming in his mouth. He was cold, it was so cold. As a kid, his parents told him "the desert nights are cold, bring warm clothes and multiple blankets to keep you warm." The floodlights were his only source of heat and that was barely helping. First, his foot went stiff, then his core, then arms, neck, finally he closed his eyes.

Time of death: 9:07 p.m April 13th 3086

The watcher came barreling out of the Watchtower, screaming at him to move. All she could do was pick him up and race him to the splicer zone. She grabbed his unmoving body and raced back inside, the doors opened up to the mechanical room. It then leads to a stairway that would eventually open up to the spire that Carter knew. With some time the watcher reached the splicers and through him on the examination table. They all looked in awe at their now going to be an overnight project that would lead to sleep deprivation. The watcher looked at all of them briefly. "MOVE-NOW-HE-IS-GOING-TO-DIE!" she screamed as loud as robotically possible. They all frantically started to work. They first mended the larger gap that the bullet created. Then began what they called the "melting process" skin was burning off and forming into a black titanium Finnish, this took them around an hour to fully complete. They then got to work on the internal systems; new tech called time glass optical modulation core that allows enhanced calculations based on sight and observation, then S.T.I.M movement that allows movement speeds up to 180 miles per hour, then a particle-based shell that allows the flow of the skin to allow storage of an assigned melee weapon, shocked analytic stim metal katana that has better balance and sharper blade(assigned melee weapon), and a time core that allows enhanced blink teleportation. This took them 5 hours to install the upgraded system, they then put the last touch on to this new modern masterpiece, S.I.V.A connection, this allows the user to benefit from any weapon tagged with the Watcher symbol, he was finished.

Time of revival: 3:07 A.M April 14th 3086

His eyes flickered on, he squirmed on the metal observation table. He looked over to his left at the Watcher, her void of emotion face was a relief. He had only remembered being cold. Her voice quivered "oh my god, you made it. You were shot by a fifty-five caliber sniper. You were dead for six hours and fifteen minutes." she worriedly explained. He looked over to his right to see a team of men and women sweating and smiling like they just finished their quarterly analysis for a business company. His smooth voice echoed in his throat before anything came out "what-what is this? Where-where did my skin go?" he exclaimed as he observed his entire right arm. He swung his legs off of the table. He slouched before he hopped off. He instantly noticed that he could barely feel the floor under him. He looked down to see a robotic body staring back at him. "I'm-i'm spliced?" he said with amazement. He could see a crowd of people forming to watch him. He spun three-sixty while looking at everything. He walked forward into the large open area that was the lounge. People moved out of his way as if there was an impassable barrier keeping them separated. The Watcher emerged from the crowd and approached Carter. She stopped right behind him, she said nothing but placed her right hand on Carter's metallic shoulder. He looked back at her, then up at the impossibly high ceiling. The Watcher spoke up. "This is not a gallery, everyone either go train or go get some rest, we have an early start tomorrow," she announced. Carter stayed put, said nothing, only observed. Time passed as people slowly filled out of the lounge and went back to their nightly duties. Then minutes later the lounge was void of any life, metal, or organic, except for him. He strode over to one of the old brown leather couches meant to seat ten people. He slouched and placed his arms on his legs. He thought to himself how he had managed to get hurt more than once in 24 hours. He could see the hue of the orange lights making tiny spotlights wherever he looked. He decided to sit there for a few more minutes allowing him to decompress what happened to him, and how he could work with this body. Carter stood up and headed to his room. On the way, he passed multiple people who were giving him looks ranging from interest to disgust. He averted his eyes to the rusty floor every time he passed someone. It was as if he felt guilty for becoming spliced. He approached his room, and pulled open the heavy marine style door and locked it closed after he entered his room. He walked over to the single, sad lamp that rested near a pistol and switched it on, He sighed as he fell on his cot. He was tired from all of the commotion, he gave little effort to get comfy, let alone use the entire bed.

(perspective of Gemini, Grottle city, entering Emerald Blaze Palace)

Gemini strode up the slight slope of stairs that lead to a palace that held today's monarch, Queen Anna. His eyes glowed in the midnight rainy darkness. It focused on people, objects, and puddles that formed from the rain. Some kids looked at him with fear and hate. They were pulled away from him by their parents. In Grottle city people who are spliced are seen as cowards. Gemini was like most people, trying to live in a broken economy where people make 10 bits every hour (10 bits is like 3 dollars and 50 cents.) Gemini focused on the path up to the palace. His old mechanics were rusted with use and weather. The bowie knife strapped to his left side made tink sounds every time it was hit with a raindrop, so did most of his metal body. As he approached the gate of the palace, guards looked at him with fear and disgust. He stood still at the gate for a solid minute before a speaker faintly spoke to a receptor in the gate hut. The two guards at the front dressed in military-grade particle armor slid to either side giving him access to visit the Queen. The walkway to the entrance was impeccable like it was tended to every hour. "It's perfect isn't it?" asked a woman above on a balcony, as dry as a desert. Gemini scoffed, "if it was not for me, this place would be rubble." he boasted to the woman. She smiles with a nostalgic pain like she was meeting an old friend from a lifetime ago. The storm picked up, leaving Gemini soaked as the sound of thunder boomed in the distance. "You're here for something," she said. "Yeah, I need to talk to you about our deal" he spoke quietly. Her smile fades, she motions for him to come in. He nodded, as she retreated into the palace he looked down at the heavy looking grand doors. He placed both metallic hands against them and pushed. A loud wail of use echoed through the grand entrance that was way too quiet to be a political beehive. He looked around at the high rising ceilings that were accompanied by chandeliers made of Astlestite, a crystal formation used for making optic systems and particle devices. They gleamed and glowed with energy and power, making it a gleaming beacon of wealth in a famine ridden, poor surrounding. A woman dressed in pearl white cloth strode across one of the grand walkways above, Gemini stood there watching as a gaggle of people started to exit rooms and debate centers, practically sprinting into other rooms and hallways leading to their next debate. It was passing hour for the politicians. To his right were royal seats with a single table made of marble and red rhinestones. He noticed that was where he was supposed to wait, he quickly ran over to the spot leaving a trail of wet mud, grime, and wet sand behind. Some of the politicians noticed his presence and just scoffed at him, laughed to themselves, or spoke to others around them about him and his appearance. He sat on a corner seat that was weathered and gray with use, he felt empathy for it, as it was just like him, old and weathered. After he squirmed in the seat finding a suitable position he pulled out tools to tune up his fundamental parts. Minutes pass, then hours and he is still waiting. His optical systems still glow with power, focusing on weirdly shaped objects that were considered art, and holographic portraits of past royals. The quiet surrounding was interrupted by a single door opening, followed by a small girl who was indefinitely Queen Anna's daughter. She ran around the grand opening, weaving and dodging butlers that were trying to catch her and place her back in her room. He had a smirk on his face, but it was not one with happiness, it was one of sadness. As if he felt bad about something. His mechanical eyes focused on her movements, if he was able to cry, he would have been. "She is fine, It's not your worry anymore," said Queen Anna. Gemini tore his focus from the kid and struggled to focus on her "I miss the old days... I miss you" he said with a heavy tone. Queen Anna looked at him with a hurt expression, "Adrian, it was your choice, not mine-or-or hers." she tried to explain. He caught himself looking at her again. "You got caught in a fantasy, and in return lost EVERYTHING!" she said with a quiet scolding tone. He looked down at his feet. He felt guilty for leaving an entire life. "How is Davian?" he asked to change the subject. She looked at him with an annoyed expression. "He is fine. Again-he is not your worry anymore." she added. The kid ran around and finally made a B-line for Queen Anna, she pummeled into her legs and held on with a tight grip. The little girl looked up at Gemini with a scared expression and slowly moved behind her large dress. Gemini slowly rose from his seat, he said nothing to both of them and just walked out to the pouring rain.
