Chapter 1 - Vulgarity

How do I explain this?

I'm an average boy with an average life. I have average friends, grades, parents, hobbies, looks- you get the point. Nothing about me is interesting. Not that that's a bad thing, but it can be annoying. People start to act like I'm invisible after a certain point, which pisses me off. The good thing though is that I have two very good friends, Dex Valor and Adam Wright.

Dex is quiet and concealed, he doesn't show much emotion. He's a bit cranky in the mornings, but who isn't? He also plays basketball after school, it helps him take out his anger. From what, exactly, no one knows, but nevertheless it's there. He's built like a tank, 6'2 with long curly brown hair that he keeps pulled back in a ponytail. His eyes are a dirty green, with rings of brown around the pupils. To emphasize his intimidation, he's stacked with muscle and has industrial piercings in his ears. He might as well have come straight out of a gym magazine.

Adam is your standard buff, rich white boy with sunshine golden hair and crystal blue eyes. While less muscular than Dex, he has a lot of stamina to make up for it. He's also quite charismatic with the girls at our school, and can't even go a step without being swooned over. To top it all off, he's kind and gentle (unless you piss him off) and loves cakes of any kind. A gentle giant, most would call him, hovering over a crowd at just under 6'4.

And then there's me.

5'4 and a half, with a small, fragile body and absolutely zero confidence. Black hair, black eyes, black clothes- I'd make the world's most introverted goth. And my name is just as lame as the rest of me; Lexicon Vulgar. What the hell even is a Lexicon? And why is it vulgar? Is it pissed off, so it has to cuss a lot to make itself feel better?

But I digress.

Dex just texted me to say he'd be at my house at 7:00 and it's damn near 3 a.m. right now. If I want to not be fucking exhausted in the morning, I should probably get to sleep and stop thinking about how shitty I am compared to my friends.

Oh, well. I'll continue to be lame in the morning.

---

I wake to a loud honk outside, probably from one of the neighbors. What time is it even? Shouldn't they be...

7:14.

Shit! That isn't my neighbors!

I roll out of bed clumsily and get dressed as fast as I can, pulling on a pair of black skinny jeans and a baggy black FFDP shirt. Slipping into my black "goth boots", I grab my backpack and sprint down the stairs, saying a quick "Bye!" to my mom and dad and bolting through the front door. Relief floods my body like a tsunami when I see Dex's Jeep Wrangler parked in front of my house still, Dex in the driver's seat and Adam in the back. I jog over to them and open the door, plopping down in the passenger seat.

"Sorry I'm late, I overslept again." I apologize as I close the door.

Dex growls in response, a slight scowl on his face.

"Oh, shut it. You're just grumpy because of the rain that's gonna come at the end of the day." Adam punches his shoulder playfully, causing his scowl to subside temporarily.

He shifts gears and pulls away from the curb, going 2 miles over the speed limit.

"So, you going to the party tomorrow?" Adam asks, nudging my arm.

"What party?" I reply, clueless.

"You know! The one after Dex's game, At that jock's house. Mark something, I think was his name."

"Oh, Mark Stain? Probably not."

The whole ride continues like this, with Adam whining that he'll be lonely for five minutes straight and me finally agreeing but only if I get to toss him out of the car.

As soon as we arrive, girls start whispering and giggling. Not for me, of course, but for Adam and Dex.

I just roll my eyes at their foolishness. Adam already stated that he had no intentions of getting a girlfriend, and Dex is... well, Dex. He doesn't see the need for someone else to rely on when he can already rely on himself. I'm with Adam, though, I really don't want a girlfriend. Although, it is amusing to watch them all fangirl over my friends.

"Alright, alright, you came you saw you got rejected, now move along hookers." I shout. They all immediately pout and frown and scowl at me. I roll my eyes again. "It's true and you know it. Now move." They clear a path to the doors of our school, Yorkson High. It's almost as shitty as I am, but at least I have a fashion sense. Yorkson is just flat out random. It has pink and green all over it, with splotches of black. There is a pair of double doors that leads into the main hallway, lined with lockers of alternating colors ranging from canary yellow to a horrid brown. The ceiling has it's rafters showing and the gym is under construction.

Luckily though, my first class is close to the entrance- English, which is only one door down (as opposed to 3 Doors Down). Dex and Adam both have Calculus first period so we say our good byes. Dex ruffles my hair as he passes me, messing it up even more. I huff loudly and head into class, ignoring his chuckilng behind me.

"Look, it's the emo bitch boy." Someone says. The class erupts in peals of laughter as I take my seat in the back, close to the window.

The door slams open and Dex storms in, looking furious.

"One of you say somethin' to my friend again, I don't care about the consequences, I will put you in a coma. Got it?" He growls.

The class swallows nervously in unison. "Y-Yeah."

Dex's eyes soften as he looks at my shocked face. He smiles and pats me on the head before glaring at the rest of the class and leaving, slamming the door behind him.

I stare at the door, just as dumbfounded as the teacher. Some kids start whispering and sending harsh glares my way, as if it was my fault that they messed with the wrong "emo bitch boy". Whatever. As long as they start leaving me alone, I'm grateful. I swear, sometimes I feel like Dex is my own personal angel-demon hybrid, ready to kick ass the moment he sees me getting hurt.

"W-Well, now that we've got everything sorted out," The teacher, Ms. Samantha begins, "let's start class, shall we?"
