Chapter 32 - Chapter 32: Cultural Festival pt. 2

Evan waited with baited breaths as Mary Sia stood right in front of him and he held on tightly onto Osser. He didn't even know what she wanted at all, but she just wouldn't stop. The girl wasn't even alone, as Astoria's crown prince stood right next to her in confusion. "My princess, why were we following 'this' exactly?" The prince asked, as confused as Evan is. Osser remained silent, taking in the event as a bystander.

Mary used her hands in a 'come down' motion and Lyle crouched down so that she could speak in his ear. "You know that in order to be with you, I need those who will follow me unconditionally and those who are powerful. The fox is just that." She whispers, letting Lyle take in all that information.

The crown prince had known that his parents would be difficult to convince if he really wanted to marry Mary, as she is a commoner. It's not that his parents discriminate against commoners, but they won't bring any political benefits, so of course they'd be against his future marriage. He won't let anyone come between them however, especially not that mutt from Basteti.

Mary stepped away from her 'lover' and turned towards Evan, who was as white as a sheet of paper. She didn't really notice his current status, as she was too focused on figuring out how to convince the fox to lend his powers towards her cause. "Hello Evan~ Would you mind meeting up with me by the fountain next week?" She fluttered her lashes, using techniques her mother had taught her to make men and even women more willing to listen to her.

Evan, who was still unresponsive, did not hear her question. He was stuck within the confines of his mind, memories attacking him once again. The white haired male still needed time to process everything, as well as learn to separate this Mary from his ex, but it was difficult.

Osser, who had also been silent, had noticed Evan's declining state. Evan was sweating like crazy and his clammy hand was warm against his wrist. The dark purple haired male decided he needed to take charge for once, noticing that the girl in front of them was getting more impatient the longer Evan stayed quiet. "We...are...busy." He quietly stated, but loud enough for the girl and Astoria's prince to hear. Without even waiting for their response, he grabbed Evan's hand and went straight towards the Masain section.

The Masain hallway was as creepy as a dark dreary graveyard full of blood and cauldrons. It felt like he stepped into Halloween as a place and yet, it was still beautiful. Haunting music played around the area, as if inviting the spirits of the dead into the dimension they are currently in. Despite its inherent creepiness, there is a beauty to the entire place.

It isn't festive like Ophinx was, but those running the booths exude a large amount of excitement without others being necessary. Evan, who had been stuck within his own mind finally broke free and it's all thanks to the atmosphere of the area, which is so different from where he was before.

"T-thanks Osser..I just couldn't handle her being there..and she just kept stalking me. You really saved me." Evan looks towards Osser and gives him a side hug to show his thanks and gets a grunt in response. He's glad that Osser won't ask questions, as he just isn't willing to become so raw during an event that is meant to bring joy. Evan is just lucky that the two didn't follow him and Osser.

The two stuck near the entrance of the Masain booths as they waited for Cole to arrive, who came fashionably late. His friend was wearing a long beige coat with a black long turtle sleeved shirt and white pants. If he didn't already think of the guy as a brother and wasn't straight, he may have just fallen for the guy right there. Osser, on the other hand, was faintly blushing.

"Hey guys!~ Did ya miss me?" Cole puckers his lips and runs straight towards Evan, putting a slobbery kiss on his cheek. "C-Cole! That's disgusting!" Evan rapidly wipes the saliva off of his face, while his face crunches in disgust. "Awh~ Cmon Ev, you know you love me!" His friend pouts, before giving Osser a large hug. Cole's affectionate nature is often welcoming but the feeling of saliva is not.

The three looked around the booths and shortly split off, with Cole finding interest in a divination booth with a stunning pale purple crystal ball, with Osser looking for even more jewelry, and Evan himself finding interest in the history booth. The white haired male has wanted to know more about Masain ever since he accidentally came across that man in the forest, who has left quite the impression on him. He's also a bit interested in necromancy as a whole, as the entire idea of being able to bring someone back as a zombie or even more than that sounds like the plot of a horror movie.

When Evan picked up a history book to purchase, he felt eyes on him. Quickly looking up, he found the student who ran the booth unashamedly staring at him with a weird glint in his eyes. "Er, is there something on my face?" Evan asks, wanting to know if that's why the person is staring at him. The student is currently wearing a large cloak, masking their face completely. "Ah sorry, you just look similar to someone a friend of mine described. Please hand over 5 silver coins for the book." A bit put out, Evan places the coins in the person's hands before swiftly walking away towards Cole, whose face is set in a grimace.

"Cole, what's up?" Evan asks, not liking the look on his face. His friend is a happy-go-lucky sort of guy and if he's upset, well, it makes him worry. "Ah, it's nothing. Don't worry my dear Ev~!" Cole brushes him off dismissively and Evan doesn't pry, assuming that whatever fortune he was told is private.

Eventually, Osser meets up with them and places a dark purple pendant in Cole's hand, making Evan wonder if they're getting friendship bracelets of sorts. The three decide to go get lunch, but on the way to the cafeteria, Evan feels eyes on him again.

Why is someone staring at him so intensely?
