Chapter 6 - A Walk Off the Wall

Freefalling 50 meters with my arms crossed as though I'm waiting in line cause some idiot is causing a scene. I'm getting more and more irritated by the second. Sure, I drank a whole cask of mead before climbing the stupid wall in the first place, but I was mad before that. I should be at home near the hearth, listening to my Lija's every want and desire while teasing her for her cute frustrated face.

All 5000 of us land with a resounding bang that creates an abnormally sizeable single-directional shockwave. The vibrations caused all the gathered frost and snow within a kilometer to fly into the sky, considerably reducing visibility. Alerting the giants, they gather quickly. Having been caught off guard due to the suddenness of our movements, there is chaos on their side as they try to gather to face us.

I'm still standing where I landed in my own crater, unmoving, appearing just like I was while falling, not unlike a lifelike statue. Damn, it's getting colder. I wonder if Lija is warm right now, it's getting close to dinner time. Has she eaten anything? I think to myself, going from frustrated to angry.

"Fuck these FUCKING GIANTS," I yell at the top of my lungs. Shockwaves blasted out of my mouth as the power behind it could be felt by the whole battlefield. Everyone feels a slight shiver go down their spines as though sensing a beast staring at them.

I fling out my hammers, one for each hand, and start charging in. each step covering a larger distance as my speed pics up. 3 meters, 5 meters, 12 meters, 20 meters, 30 meters, 45 meters, finally reaching 60 meters a step, I appear like a guided missile quickly overtaking the charging warriors and arriving at the giants' side.

"Plans went to Helheim. Looks like Irons-Bane went feral. Try to keep their leaders back. Just let him blow off some steam, so he doesn't take it out on us when he returns." The chief shouts to the other leaders just in time to witness a spectacle.

Reaching the first giant, I gathered my remaining strength in my legs instead of continuing my sprint and launched myself forward. Passing between the legs of the lead 7th-rank giant, I swing my hammers from the side, cutting his legs in half at the knee.

As I fly forward at an upward angle, I swing both hammers straight up, splitting the next 6th-rank giant in half, and yell cuss words with every impact. Passing through the now-dead giant's body, I finally meet resistance. Punching forward with the hammer in hand, I manage to hit the next 7th-rank giant in the gut transferring all the force right into him. A half second later, I'm floating mid-air as the giant flies back, knocking over a handful of his comrades. He is dead, and I've tied up the others for a moment.

Feeling danger to my right, I twist my body, so my legs come up to my right as a massive fist flies my way. Using my legs to absorb the shock as I push off, I catapult myself at several more 4th and 5th-rank giants. Chocking up on the hammers near the head, I punch out as I'm head level with the creatures.

Punching the first one in the temple shattering its skull, following through on the next one snapping its spine. Jumping from its shoulder with a downward swing from both hammers crushing the head into paste and bone fragments.

Sliding to his back, I push off again and swing up, catching a 6th-rank giant under the chin with the first blow. Knocking his head back as I spin mid-air, throwing the other hammer catching him in the temple and killing him instantly. As the dead giant falls, I ride his chest to the ground with several loud explosion sounds happening one after the other as the other bodies also hit the ground. The other hammer reappears in my hand using the blood link to the weapon.

While it seems to have taken a while to describe this, only a dozen seconds have passed since I overtook the others. Just as the hammer reappears and all the giants are looking at me, the charging troops finally arrive. The main forces Catch the stunned giants off guard, severely wounding far more than expected and killing more than 50 instantly.

Instantly removing 5 percent of the opposing forces was a good sign. We are one-tenth of the way to our goal. These wars are not even supposed to be deciding battles between our races. While we never understood the giant's reason for assaulting us every year, we never really cared. The ancestors decided that these wars were just meant to temper our youth and provide life-and-death battles for those seeking to hone their skills. Guess the giants didn't feel that way this year.

An Angry Roar Echoes From the front, and the tallest giant standing just over 12 meters, hurls a spear with the spearhead as big as I am straight at me. With little time to dodge, I bring the hammers in front of me, blocking the blow being knocked back a hundred meters.

Finally coming to a stop, I spit out a mouthful of blood and saliva. Catching my breath, I glare at the bastard that is stopping me from going home. The other 7th-rank warriors were already tying down their respective targets. Still, the war chief was waiting for their chieftain to make a move. Now that he had, he jumped into the fray.

"OY, YOU SHIT STAIN FROM YOUR MOTHER'S ASS! RUINING MY WHOLE WINTER WITH THIS HALF-ASSED SCHEME OF YOURS, WATCH AS I CRUSH YOUR MOST POWERFUL AND TRUSTED CLANSMEN INTO MEAT PATTIES!" I shout out, pissed off to the extreme.

Activating my innate body ability from the body refining manual I use, called Wrath of the God of the Forge. My skin turns grey and picks up a metal luster, and starting from my weapons and hands turn a bright yellow like molten metal as it fades to red at my elbows. My eyes turn into flickering flames as raging fire comes from my head, flowing out like hair.

With a loud roar, fire pours from my hammer, and my body overcomes the restrictions of the frost wastes. Flying faster than those present can see, I appear as though teleporting behind one of the 13 rank-7 giants. I Smash the back of his head with the flaming hammers causing his skull to explode.

I immediately repeat this four more times in the blink of an eye. First, smashing the top of one head, flattening him to the ground. The second smashed his forehead, causing brain matter to spray all over his comrades, then knocking the third one's head clear off his body. The last one flinging a hammer straight through the eyes, causing the flames to erupt from the hammer like an implosion covering the battlefield in the smell of roasting meat while a literal river of blood begins to form.

Grabbing the hammer back, I begin to build up a massive ball of flame on each hammer while floating above the battlefield. Pouring almost all the remaining Ki I have into my hammers. I bring them together, generating a severely compressed point of energy. At the touch of the hammers, a beam of fiery plasma sweeps the battlefield, almost instantly cutting close to two hundred giants in half.

The battlefield became a mess of blood and meat in less than half a minute since the spear was thrown. Completely exhausting all the Ki in my body, I land back on the ground, wiped out. Having freed up a lot of manpower and causing such a massive shift, I can now say I did my part.

Putting my hammers back in my space ring, I jump up to A place with a good vantage point. Pulling out some of the dry rations from my ring, I try recovering while sitting on the top of the dead giant's head I knocked off earlier.

Having been restrained and unable to help, the Giants Chieftain was beyond mad watching his clansman, who were brought up carefully and reached such a high rank, be blown to pieces. He steps back, blowing a horn for the retreat.

Seeing the retreat, our side decided to deal as much damage as possible using the overwhelming number of higher rank cultivators, thus beginning a second massacre. By the time it was all over, 618 giants had died in a single decisive battle, and we had gotten back more than what was previously lost.

Even with such a massive victory, they still lost close to 1500 men for this victory. The few desperate and cornered giants burned their life force and exploded, causing the majority of the losses. Losing 4th rank cultivators wouldn't have been as bad, but the majority lost were 5th rank and a good number of 6th rank as well.

Still feeling gloomy over being stuck here for probably a while longer, I head back to the fort after pocketing the giant's head. Giants' bones help make better steel compared to other sources. Finding a room open in one of the long halls, I throw my cloak off, kick off my boots, and flop on the bed as it groans from my weight.

Letting out a final sigh of irritation, I pass out to rest and recover my Ki so I can fight the next one.
