Chapter 71 - Birth Of A Lust Demon

Before making any reckless move, I checked the details of the quest and the remaining time one last time.

Wishing I had the time to scout and learn about the situation, I grabbed the injured wrist of the woman I guessed to be 'the candidate' and started a healing spell.

The fox materialized on a pillow onto the bed without touching the woman, the blood, or any other liquid. ''You aren't supposed to do heal her. Actually, you should let her die. All you have to do is make her say 'yes'.''

Without pausing the spell, ''Does it seem like she can talk at the moment to you? It's not just the wound, she's paralyzed. Maybe she did it before she committed suicide so she won't feel the pain,'' I said.

''Unlikely,'' the fox answered. ''Someone who has no desire to live cannot be a candidate. One who seeks revenge doesn't kill herself. This must be a setup, raped and committed suicide.''

Looking at the pale face of the girl I guessed younger than me, I thought the fox was right. With the ripped nightgown to hide nothing and legs spread apart for everyone to see that she was abused, the woman was like a broken and helpless doll. Suddenly, the scene seemed too planned to happen naturally.

''So the main motivation isn't to commit murder, but to insult. There must be a personal grudge,'' I said.

The fox nodded, ''I bet the girl was conscious but wasn't able to move or speak and again I bet the main target was who would find her like this, a loved one. Ingenious and sick minded. Oh, sweet grudge. Why can't you be a little like that too?''

I rolled my eyes as I utter the last syllables and express my gratitude to the light element. ''I'll almost think you wanted me to leave her like this,'' I said in my mind.

''No,'' the fox said, ''I would prefer her to join our side. Someone has to be extremely talented to be a candidate, and I was, after all, programmed to act for the good of the breed.''

''She is no longer paralyzed. But she lost a lot of blood, even if I heal her wound, I cannot return the blood,'' I said. ''If you're programmed to act in some certain way, who programmed you?''

''One of your ancestors. As I said, she doesn't have to heal. Make her accept your offer. Offer what you want, lie, make impossible promises. Just make her say yes,'' the fox said.

Trying to see if the woman was able to speak, I touched her face. It was cold as a corpse. I opened her eyelids to see if her pupils would react to the light. They were fine. Her brown eyes, with lots of red in it, glowed with anger in contrast to her pale body. She was still alive.

''Can you hear me?'' I asked.

Her lips moved but she couldn't make a sound. I assumed she heard me. Frowning, ''Does she have to say the words to accept the offer? I don't think she can,'' I said to the fox.

''Not necessary. The important thing is the heart's desire,'' it said.

Since I knew that my healing abilities could no longer help, I focused my attention on her heart. The anger and hatred that drew me here had diminished. I got the familiar taste of fear of death and regret from her heart.

''I wish I could see you one last time... What will happen to me now?''

It was so intense that I could turn the emotions into words. I could do this when someone's emotions were primitive or strong, or sometimes when the person was vulnerable. Someone knocked on the bedroom door, ''Lady Rosa, are you awake?''

''This must be the lover she was waiting for. Hurry up,'' the fox said.

''Rosa, right? Listen, I can help you but you need to be willing to accept my help.'' I saw her confusion in her eyes. ''You want those who hurt you to pay for what they did, right? I know you want.''

As soon as I felt the confusion turn to anger and desire, the inmon on my belly began to warm. I took it as a yes and I brought my mouth closer to her lips. The warmth rose from my belly, filled my lungs, and flowed from my mouth to hers.

''Rosa, is there someone else inside? Are you okay?'' I heard the voice of the man who knocked on the door, but this time he was a little harsher, more cautious. A few quiet, tense seconds passed. ''I'm coming inside,'' he said.

Seconds before the door opened, I ran to the balcony and jumped into the backyard. The second floor was not that high, it hurt but no bone was broken. Still, I knew I'd be injured worse than that if I was still human.

''You... demon! Stop there!''

I looked up in astonishment, I didn't understand what he said that, and saw that the fox was still on the railings of the balcony. Instead of falling like me, it was slowly descending. I didn't know why it was still in the physical form.
