Chapter 1 - This Was Supposed To Be Relaxing

"I know this is supposed to be relaxing, but it's not."

Magnus Lightwood-Bane was sloched in his chair, a hand in the hand of his husband.

Alec sighed. "Look, I know that this was supposed to be just the two of us, but who would have watched Max and Rafe?"

Magnus looked around the beach of Brazil to see his two sons, one a Warlock like Magnus, and one a Shadowhunter like Alec. "I just wanted a getaway with my husband, just one weekend."

A laugh from Alec. "Yeah, I wanted the same thing." His gaze landed on Max, and he had a loving look in his eyes. "All our previous babysitters know of their past, no one would have willingly volunteered. And for a whole weekend?"

Magnus turned Alec's head to face him. "You promised though. You promised we would have a weekend to ourselves."

"And we will. It doesn't have to be this weekend, but we will." Alec cupped his hand over Magnus's. "Besides, we could put the kids to sleep for the entire weekend."

"Are you suggesting that we drug them?"

"I'm not suggesting that we don't."

Magnus chuckled lightly, his husband's humor always bringing a smile to his face when he was seeing negative.

"What if we wait til Rafe is old enough? He knows all of Max's routines and needs." Alec suggested, thinking like the Shadowhunter he was. "And we wouldn't even need to pay him."

Magnus tilted his head in mock thought. "That's true. I'm still not used to paying people for favors."

Alec laughed, his laugh like heaven itself. "It's a perfect plan for the future."

Their lips touched, Alec's kiss still sweet, still passionate, still all Alec.

They broke apart, Alec's eyes still looking at Magnus's lips, he noticed. "We should take the kids somewhere. We can't just let them play in the sand all day."

Alec sighed, a hint of longing in his sigh. "Yeah, maybe take them to Carnival or something."

Magnus nodded, his and Alec's hand still entwined. "Max! Rafe!" The faces of his kids turned to him. "C'mon, we have somewhere to take you!"

~Time Skip~

The streets were bustling with energy, Rio de Janerio's parade floats trailing after the preforming marching band.

Max and Rafe were filled with awe, taking everything in with their young and curious eyes. They grabbed hold of all the Brazilian food they could, shoving it in their mouths and pockets.

Magnus smiled, remembering his time as a young Warlock like Max. He had no one, only mundanes who didn't understand the Shadow World.

Mundanes, who didn't support him.

Mundanes, who wanted him dead.

Alec must have seen the sad look in his eyes, because his grip on Magnus's hand tightened. "Hey, what's wrong? I know that look."

Magnus's breath came out as a sigh. He could never hide anything from Alec. "Max just remindeds me of myself when I was his age. He's just got a better life then I ever did."

Alec looked at Magnus, placing his lips onto Magnus's. They stayed like that until Max began to tug on his clothes, drawing Magnus's attention to the small blue child.

"Bapa? Can we get that?" He motioned to a plushie of a duck, the yellow surrounding the entire shape. "I wanna give it to Uncle Jace!"

Alec chuckled, obviously reminded of Jace's fear of ducks. "Well Magnus? Can he?"

Magnus pretended to consider it, actually thinking about how good, no - great - his life was. He had kids, kids plural. He was married, married to the greatest man he had met in his 400 plus years of living.

"Yes, my little blueberry. Of course you can."
