When I awoke, I looked over to my alarm clock and saw that it was almost noon. Why didn't my alarm go off? Why didn't anyone wake me? I scurried out of bed and dressed in a simple jeans and tank top. I pulled my hair in a ponytail and went to the bathroom. The door was closed so I knocked and the door opened to a wet haired 14 year old boy. "Look who's up" He had a towel around his waist and water dripping from his face and hair. "Yeah, my alarm didn't go off"
"It did, but I turned it off after you didn't wake. Dad told me not to wake you so I just let you sleep."
"Oh, well thanks I guess. But next time, wake me." I said a little annoyed that they let me sleep this long. "For sure" he said walking past me toward his room. I walked in the bathroom and it was a little foggy for the shower. I just grabbed my tooth brush and looked in the mirror.
After brushing my teeth and washing my face. According to my phone it was 12:15. I the bathroom and headed down stairs. Joshua was sitting on the kitchen counter drinking orange juice. "You didn't do your hair. Aren't you coming with us today?" He placed the cup down and slid me a plate full on bacon and dice potatoes. I grabbed the plate and a fork. "Thanks and no I'm not. I've decided to stay here for the day" I stabbed potato and ate it when my brother replied. "hm, okay if you say so. Dad said we're going to the mall and He's going to get me gta 5" I could see the excitement in his eyes so I chose not to scoff at that. "That's cool, maybe we could play later."
"Definitely" He hopped off the counter and left me to eat alone. I smiled as I watched him walk over to our dad and talk about who knows what.
When I finished I washed my plate and thought about how happy Josh was to be here. I knew he loved our dad and always loved visiting, but I couldn't help but think if Josh was old enough to make a choice back when we moved to New York, would he have chose to stay with dad? What if he did, what if I was as distant with my brother as I was with my father. I couldn't imagine that. I would hate not living with my annoying little brother. Just thinking about it almost made me break into tears. "Okay we're getting ready to leave. You sure you're not coming?" I heard my father ask from behind me. I dried the plate and put it away. "Positive" Was all I said before I went in the living and sat on the couch.
Without a word my father walked out. When I looked out the window I saw Josh seating in the passenger seat of my dad's red sedan. My father got in and drove off, leaving me home alone.
I channel surfed for about 5 minutes before deciding to clean the house instead. I played some music as I mopped the floors, did the laundry, wipe the windows, counter, and walls down. Our house smelled of Lysol now. Not knowing what to do next, I went for a walk. I didn't know which way town was so I walked through the woods.
Walking in the forest was honestly really calming and beautiful.
I came across a creak and kneeled down next to it and scooped some water up in my hand and took a sip. As I indulged myself in some refreshment I hear the rustle of leaves and when I turned my head and saw the wolf. Normally I would be scared, but I felt a connection. I felt calm as the wolf came up behind me and lowered it's head to the stream and drank from it.
I looked over and raised my hand to it to pet the wolf. It growled and I quickly pulled my hand back. "Well you don't have to be so aggressive" I mumbled to myself. I heard to wolf whimper and felt it inch closer to me.
"Oh now you want to be nice?" I asked the wolf. I made a sound that almost sounded like a chuckle. It laid it's head on my lap and I slowly stroked the top of it's head. It made a purring sound that calmed me in a way. Smiling, I scratched behind it's ear. It's leg started shaking uncontrollably making me laugh out loud. It looked up at me and pounced on me, making me fall on my back laughing. It licked my face and I screeched. "No No Stop Get off. Ewwww" It climb off panting as I pulled up my shirt wiping my face off. There was a growl from behind me and when I turned I saw a jet black wolf. It was much bigger than the brown one and it's eyes were black and soulless. I gulped and backed away. The black wolf walked closer to me and as I was sitting there I couldn't help but notice how the brown wolf cowered in the presence of the black one. The black wolf turned to me and towered over me. I backed away further and fell into the creak.
I screamed, stood and climbed out. The brown wolf was gone now but the black one barked and snarled at me. I ran the opposite way, dodging trees and branches not knowing where I was going. I heard the barks of the wolf that was now chasing me.
I came into a clearing and ran into a hard surface. When I looked up I came face to face with a handsome boy with dark brown hair and eyes, like the wolf. I frantically turned around to the woods and heard a faint growling sound. I ran behind the boy and gripped tightly to his shirt.
"Uhh, You okay?" His voice was deep, husky. I realized I was gripping him and quickly let go. "S-sorry." I stuttered out, looking past him back to the woods. He followed my gaze. "What are you looking at?" He asked. "I was in the woods. Then there was this- this wolf. And he was black and huge. I mean bigger than any wolf I've even seen. Not that I've seen a lot." hearing myself, I realized how crazy I must sound. I quickly composed myself and fixed my clothes. The boy just chuckled and looked at me. "Yeah, it's never a good idea to go to the woods alone. there are a lot of wolves around this town."
"And you just let them roam free?!" I asked astonished. "Well, we learn if you don't mess with them and stay out of their territory then they're pretty harmless."
"Harmless?! It didn't seem harmless." he looked back to the woods.
"Yea, maybe it's best you stay out of the woods." I took a deep breath. "Yeah, I'm starting to think your right."
"There's something in your hair." The raised his hand to my head. "If you don't mind" When I didn't reply he pulled something from my hair. He held a leaf between his index and middle finger, tossing it on the ground. I blushed a little and hoped it wasn't noticeable. "Thanks" a strand of my hair fell in front of my face and I assumed the rest of my hair looked an absolute mess. I sighed and pulled my ponytail out, letting all of my hair free. The boy stared at me for a few seconds before, smiling and saying, "I like your hair down. You should wear it like that more often." I blushed deeper and looked away. Looking around I noticed that we were in town. There was all kinds of stores, but the one that caught my mind was the cafe.
"Wanna grab a coffee, Wolf Girl?" The boy asked. I realized that I never told the boy my name. "It's Elle actually" The boy's eyes widened. "No Way. I knew you looked familiar"
"What are you talking about. I don't know you." I studied his features the more I did the more familiar he looked to me. "You really don't remember me? Sam? Samual?" The moment he said that, it clicked. Sam was my best friend when I was younger. Honestly when we left I missed him the most. thought about him most nights. Without thinking I hugged him. He hesitated before hugging me back. "Sammy" I said softly before pulling back to the sound of a woman's voice.
"SAM?! What are you doing with this girl !!" I took a step back as a girl with hair extensions and fake eye lashes stepped up to Sam and hugged his waist. I cleared my throat instantly feeling awkward. "This is Elle, she was my childhood best friend. She moved away some years back and" He looked to me "came to visit?" he asked.
"Actually, I'm moving back." A smile spread across his lips, and the girl just scowled at me. "That's awesome, we should hang. What you doing later?" She gaped at him. "Uh- nothing really. I'm free." Now she glared at me. And well, if looks could kill, But then a sly smile crossed her face. "You sure you want to go in that?" She asked looking down at my clothes. When I look at what I was wearing I saw that I was covered in mud from the fall in the creak and being on the ground. Sammy laughed and said, "Yeah we could both use a change of clothes." The girl pulled back when she saw that he had mud on his shirt and pants.
"Yeah, sorry about that." I said giving him a shy smile. "No problem Ellie" My smile dropped. I was hoping he forgot about that stupid nickname he gave me. He chuckled seeing the look on my face. "Oh come on" he said pulled me and the girl followed. "Where are we going?" I asked, not resisting.
"My house" was all he said.
