Dae eventually stopped vomiting. He calmed himself down and got to grips with himself.
The Captain started searching the Data Storage console, locating the memory storage devices underneath it. He ripped the five of them out of their sockets and shot a laser into all of them before crushing them underneath his feet. Once he was satisfied with its destruction he and Dae walked back to the supply store.
It was relatively intact besides the odd black tattooed body here and these. They grabbed nourishment and health supplies. There was no sign of the shop owners anywhere and the rest of the building also looked empty.
The Captain guessed two of the ships that were docked in the port-arm belonged to the black tattooed gang and the other two for the shop owners. They were probably holed up in the restrooms.
When the Captain and Dae had finished stocking up on supplies, they wandered through the ruined scrap store. By now the dust had settled and the entire view of broken pillars and pieces of scrap that lay across the floor was revealed. The Captain shifted through the rubble, trying to find anything of value. It wasn't long before he found a sturdy black unlabeled box in the mix. The black box featured a small secpad about the size of a thumb as its lock, however, it was cracked and had parts of its internals peeking out.
The Captain tried to jimmy the box open with his finger but failed.
"Is there a small knife anywhere?" He asked Dae while looking around.
"I've got something better"
Dae put his hand on the Captain's shoulder. The energy moved flowed through Dae's arm and into the Captain's fingers, strengthening them. The Captain immediately ripped the lid off the box, which contained a small shiny chrome band the size of a cup.
"Is this... What I think it is" The Captain muttered as he carefully lifted the chrome band from its holder and inspected it.
Dae stared at it too, noticing its extremely smooth brushed exterior. It just looked like a metal band at first glance.
"What is it?" Dae confusingly questioned.
"It's a commlink" The Captain replied.
"Every Galactic citizen has a commlink, it provides a form identification as well as numerous other features. Galactic citizens have far more rights than normal citizens. They are formally recognized by the Galactic Union and as such are entitled to much greater legal freedom as well as rights and opportunities. It's very rare to find Galactic citizens in a Minor-State like Divera."
From the Captain's thorough inspection, he could see design elements similar between the box the commlink was in and the laser pistol he had taken. It was too similar to be a coincidence, which meant there was a greater story at play. Regardless, at the moment the Captain just wanted to get out of this remote dead end and into some civilization so they could get out of the State.
The only thing that bugged him was why the commlink was not signed. He shared with Dae his concern, telling him how commlinks were issued by the Galactic Union, and as such were signed on verification of the recipient. The commlink would then stay on the person for the rest of their lives unless the person removed it which was usually a very bad idea as you would temporarily lose your rights as a Galactic Citizen.
The commlink is made with traces of unimats, and a special feature is when the commlink is signed, certain unimats within it allow it to automatically engrave the name of the person on it. This may not seem very special but the unimats within it allow the commlink to connect to the Galactic Web from it in almost any location. The Galactic Web connects the entire galaxy virtually and is often relatively hard for citizens of Minor-States to be a part of. There are local State webs however, they are far more limited in the information they contain and some states completely control their Webs.
This is why the commlinks' almost universal connection to the Galactic Web is so valuable as well as their particular unsigned one. Usually, only Galactic Officials are in possession of unsigned commlinks and it is usually when they are being delivered to a person. Finding one here was extremely odd. The Captain couldn't help connect this with the laser pistol and the 'mysterious' person the scrap shop owner said dropped it off here.
Despite this, the Captain opted to ditch spending any more time at the jump port.
"Let's get out of here"
Dae followed the Captain while carrying some of the supplies in a duffle bag. They reached the ship which had been reset to its original position and entered it, dropping the supplies into the compartments at the back. The Captain stepped out and initiated the console before stepping back in. A few minutes later the JCM systems reinitiated, causing the four arms to reconnect with the ship's hull and slowly rotated it in the correct direction.
Once the JCM had stopped, the four arms slowly retreated leaving the frozen ship suspended in a no gravity zone ready to jump. Unlike the last time they jumped, the Captain didn't engage the engines. The unidrive doesn't need to be in motion to be activated so the engines are activated once they jump. This is because the cheap vessel doesn't have precise rocket engines, so if the engines are engaged before the jump, they could steer the ship off course.
In the cockpit, Dae watched the Captain engage the console. He inputted some commands into it which created a small hologram on the right side of the console. The hologram showed a star system with planets.
"Is this where we're headed?" Dae asked.
"Yea, it's the Pholzone system, the second most populated star system in the State, the first being the Capital system. I purposely chose this as it's easier to get through security measures there while still being able to travel interstellar, but considering the situation in the Captial, I guess it doesn't matter."
