The fairy tale couple walked out together. Allard was hoisting Cosette up, her expression filled with tears as she clutched her reddened hand. She could have healed it, but she wouldn't. She knew better than to do so. It was a sign that the Princess had struck her. Cosette had been surprised, her reclusive personality had given her much more room to breathe.
Lumielle had always been so passive. What had made her change? She had always played nice, pretending to smile at her without a thought. Cosette didn't expect her to lash out at her. Her hand stung, but what stung more was the surprise.
This would be a lingering mark.
"Are you alright?" Allard asked, his expression showing concern as he stroked her cheek. She was going to cry herself into disarray. He was worried at the number of tears spilling down her cheeks. "You should stop crying, you'll make yourself ill."
