"WHAT?!" Avecii's heart dropped.
"She went to Rome this morning and hasn't returned since." Primo explained.
Avecii thought back, he knew he told her to come right back to the town. Did she ignore him and go off to buy something? No, Mia wouldn't do that. Was she lost? No, she goes to Rome on a weekly basis so she would know the path. Did she pass out somewhere along the path…? No, he would have seen her then when he was coming back, after all there's only one road to the city. Then that could only mean one thing.
"Don't worry she probably saw an outfit she liked and stopped to check it out, you know how girls can be," He chuckled nervously, hoping they would believe him, "She'll be back soon, I'm sure of it."
Avecii couldn't let anyone know that it was his fault that Mia was kidnapped, not even his famiglia.
"By the way boss who were you following today?" Tielmo asked after wiping the last droplets of vomit off his chin.
"Huh? Um, Someone who wasn't targeted, that's why I came back early." Avecii said.
"Anyways, I'll leave this up to you two and head back to the house to see if Rete has any information." Avecii patted Tielmo on the shoulder who was getting teary as another wave came.
"Alright." Primo said.
Avecii returned to the house and went into his office thinking of how he was going to save Mia. He wouldn't be able to negotiate with the Spada, in fact he didn't even know why they were attacking but he knew he couldn't leave Mia with them until tomorrow, if he did he may never see her again. That only left tonight to take action, seeing the amount of people bustling about night was his best option and he couldn't let any of the famiglia know about this.
"BOSS!!!!" Rete slammed the desk with an open hand.
Avecii's head shot up as he was pulled from his train of thought.
"Yeah...Yeah Rete what's up?" Avecii asked while recovering.
"Are you alright? I've been calling your name for the past couple minutes." Rete looked worried.
"Ah don't worry about it, I was just thinking about how I couldn't find anything when I went to the city today." Avecii lied.
"Did you find anything?" Avecii asked.
"Yeah, turns out the people who attacked Mia last time were from La Famiglia della Spada." Rete said.
"Hmmmm, I see…" Avecii rubbed his chin, already knowing this from what happened in the morning.
"Do you know why they're doing this?" Avecii asked.
"Yea, turns out the Scudi and Spada have been known as the strongest families in Rome for a very long time but suddenly the Scudi family decided to move out of the city and into a small town disappearing from the mafia life," He explained, "Despite that people still regard the Spada and Scudi to be equals and this is apparently making the current Spada Boss mad."
This was something Avecii had already known, in fact he was there when they decided to leave the mafia life behind.
"So he wants to draw the Scudi in and show who's the strongest?" Avecii looked up.
"Basically, also I've heard rumors about the Spada, that they're devils." Rete said.
"Devils?" Avecii furrowed his eyebrows.
"Yeah, apparently in their family if you don't do your job properly you get tortured or kicked out, sometimes if you failed horrendously they'll even kill you." Rete said.
"Thanks Rete." he said letting Rete go.
"Did you see anything when you went into town today Boss?" Rete asked briefly, stopping by the door.
"No… nothing too important..." Avecii replied slowly.
"I see, well I'll take my leave now then." Rete said as he left.
Avecii leaned back in his chair and stared upwards at nothing in particular. Something about what the Spada family was doing didn't feel right, it wasn't something Pops would agree with.
"Hmph!" Avecii exhaled, "You were an interesting man Pops."
"The only reason I'm here is because I met you that day..." Avecii said softly as he turned to his left and looked out the window at the cemetery in the distance.
