Chapter 6 - The Vampire Helps With Homework

Why not? I'm just realizing that I've already used up their entire weekend. I'm just writing this on the spot so I don't really know how it's gonna turn out, though I think I have an overall story line, even if it is vague. I want to make this book pretty long so I'm gonna try to make this one month last a few chapters. That's all, enjoy!

Killua's POV:

One month. That's all the time I have with Gon. Well more like 3 weeks but who's counting. I thought that maybe if I were to get him to like me more, than he would accept me as a vampire later, but maybe... he might hate the fact that I hid this from him and he might hate that I'm a vampire. Maybe I should just tell him after school today. It has been 3 days since the last chapter and Gon and I have been meeting at the ice cream shop everyday. He always seems genuinely happy to see me, he's always smiling and laughing. He talks like he's gonna go mute tomorrow and his eyes are always shining bright. It hurts me to know that I'll have to crush his trust and our friendship, but I also know that old hag (Mito) is right, as much as I hate to admit it, Gon has been nothing but honest and kind to me, and I have only lied to him and given him a false sense of security.

It was Wednesday today so Gon would be a little late because of school. I sat in the ice cream shop with an ice cream cone and a chocolate robot. I couldn't stop eating the glorious statues, they were too good! The only problem was, the more human food I ate, the thirstier I became.

There have been a few close calls, I've already almost bitten Gon. I really need to control myself better. I wracked my brain for a reasonable solution. I could give up eating chocobots... no, that is too big a sacrifice! Or I could stop hanging around Gon... Baka! That would only make your situation worse. I could try to train to control my thirst better... but who knows how long that'll take? Oh! I know! I'll only eat the chocolate robots after I see Gon, and while I do that I can work on training myself with my thirst. I'd just have to stay away from Gon while I do it! It would be hard, but worth it. I set my chocobot in my bag and waited for Gon to arrive. Not long after the bells at the top of the door chimed loudly; signaling that someone had entered. I turned my head to face the door, there stood my favorite human. Though he was sweaty and out of breath. "You look like you ran a marathon." I said.

"You look like you were caught in a blizzard and the snow merged with your body." He smiled and I had to chuckle. It's true, I am extremely pale, but I like it that way, it would look kind of weird if I was tan with my white hair. "Oh yeah! I have to go home earlier today."

I looked at him confused, "Why?"

"Mito found out that I've been skipping out in my homework to come here." He laughed nervously.

"Baka. Don't waste your future to have a couple hours with me." I scolded, though I was actually really happy that he was doing that just to hangout with me. Me!

"It's boring anyways. Plus it's too hard." He whined.

"Then I'll help you, come on!" I paused and grabbed his wrist. I could feel his pulse jumping through his veins. "Mito will stop letting you come all together if you keep that up."

"Heh, you're right. Thanks Killua."

"No problem." I led Gon out of the shop and started walking back to his house.

As we walked Gon suddenly blurted, "woah! I wonder what happened over there?!"

"Where?" I asked looking around. Gon pointed towards an alleyway where a bunch of construction workers and police were investigating. I immediately noticed that a huge chunk of the wall was missing, and I soon realized that, that was the alley I took Mito into when I first told her about myself.

Now that I look back on it, I'd only known her for almost a day, why the hell did I tell her? I didn't even trust her at the time either. The only information I could count on was that she would do anything for Gon's safety, and that she was human, so she would do anything for her survival as well. Though, I had to so that Gon would stay with me. If I didn't tell her things would only get worse and worse. Then again, now she knows my secret and could tell anybody. But, I already threatened her life if she did that, then again, was I really going to do it? I would have to give up on my friendship with Gon if I did end up killing her.

We ran back to Gon's house, this was the first time I'd been here since we found that um 'book' that she was reading. I ended up not telling Gon what a lemon was, he's too pure for that.

"Ne Killua, we're here!" The energetic boy next to me practically screamed.

"Hn? Oh, ok" I looked up at the house and noticed a clump of garlic on the front door along with a cross. I rolled my eyes, "strange choice of decor you got." I said pointing to the door.

"Oh yeah, this?" He asked looking at the garlic. "Apparently, there have been a lot of missing people recently, and Aunt Mito thinks it was a vampire. She even googled ways to keep vampires out of the house." It doesn't sound like she mentioned me...

"Do you believe in vampires?" What? I'm curious. I really wanted to know his thoughts on this.

"I don't know, it's hard to say... I think that it's possible that vampires exist so I really wouldn't be surprised either way."

"What do you think about vampires?"

"I mean if they are like the stories, you know, cruel, evil, selfish, I don't think that I would ever get along with them. But if they were more like say, you, I feel like we could be good friends. Species doesn't really matter to me all that much, it's more about personality. Don't you agree?"

"I guess..." my mind jumped off a mental bridge and committed suicide in that moment. Did he really just compare vampires to me? I should change the subject quick. "So uh, who do you think is causing all the disappearances in town?" Dammit!

"Honestly, I have no idea." It was in that moment where I couldn't help but thank my lucky stars that this child was so dense. "Let's go in!" He said. I nodded and grabbed the door handle, garlic and most crosses don't affect me or my family, though they would any normal vampire, my family trained me so that it didn't bother me. The same thing goes with the sun. Though the training was gruesome and terrible, I can't say I'm not grateful to be unaffected by these things.  We walked into the house, "hey Aunt Mito!" Gon called into the house.

"Hey Gon, welcome back! Remember to do your homework." She came around the corner to officially greet Gon. When she saw me she could barely contain her surprise. I smirked back at her. I had to admit, she was kind of entertaining. "Killua, Gon has some homework to do, maybe you could comeback a bit later?" Both her tone and face wore a fake happy-guilty expression.

"I know the situation, I came to help him study." I looked at her with, what I hoped, was a look that said, you sure you wanna challenge me? You'll regret it.  It seemed that she got the message because she backed down without another word.

Gon grabbed my wrist and led me up to his room. "So what all do you need to finish?"

He laughed nervously, Uh oh, hopefully it wasn't too much, I couldn't risk staying over night, I was thirsty. "I have to write an essay about vampires and werewolves for English. I have to take a blood sample and study it for biology. I have a few sheets of math questions. And I have to draw someone and have someone draw me for art." Shit, he has to take a blood sample!

"What kind of school makes you take a blood sample as homework?" I asked.

"My kind apparently."

"Okay, let's start with English I guess." I'll need to come up with an excuse to leave during the blood thing.

"Do you know anything about either species?"

"Well, I know the basics. Werewolves are in human form most of the time and only turn on full moons. They hate silver. They love meat. And vampires drink human blood. A stake to the heart can kill them. They burn in the sun. They hate garlic. They're both really fast and strong. Neither likes the other species. That's about it." That's not it at all.

"You know so much! It's almost like you are one yourself!"

"Vampires and werewolves don't actually exist Gon." Oops, I spilled a little too much.

"You don't know that." I sighed.

"Okay, you wanna know the way to write a long and detailed essay that will make your teacher give you a good grade?" He nodded. "You have to get the minimum information and write it down with a lot of adjectives and adverbs, after that state something else and put the two together. If you can, put the same idea in different sentences written so differently that the teacher barely notices that it's the same thing." (This trick has worked for me my entire life. What do you guys do to get good grades?)

"Okay, I think I get it. So, if I can turn all the information you gave me into an essay I'll be set?"

"Yeah, but make sure to add some random fun facts just for good measure. Do one paragraph about werewolves, one about vampires, and one about how much the species hate each other." He nodded and started typing away on the computer. It took him an hour and a half using my trick, i occasionally pointed out a flaw to him but other than that, it went by pretty fast, considering it was homework. "Let's do the art next."

"Okay! But just so you know, I'm not very good at drawing."

"That's fine." We spent the next few hours trying to draw each other. (Yes, it did take a few hours for them to draw each other. Just go along with it, it helps move the plot along).

"I'm done!" He said, sounding exhausted.

"I'm just adding a few more touches." I quickly added the last few lines and blurs. "Now I'm done."

"Can I see?"

"Only if I can see yours." I grinned.

"Ok!" He showed me his picture. It was just a light sketch of me that was kind of sloppy, but I could also see how much work he put into making it as perfect as possible.

I smiled brightly, "that's really good!" I held up my picture, "I drew both of us, I hope that's ok."

A/N: (Not Mine)

He stared at it with his mouth agape. I couldn't blame him, the picture was pretty good, I've never drawn anything like it. "That's amazing! You're such a good artist Killua!"

"B-baka, I'm not that good." I said looking away from him. It was embarrassing when he complimented me or called me his best friend, I always had to look away to hide the blush that grew on my face. "Anyways what's next?"

"Uh, I guess I'll do biology next."

"What did you have to do for that again?" What do I say? What do I say? What do I say?

"A blood test thingy."

"Oh right. I'm gonna step out for this one... I've always been a little uncomfortable around blood."

"Ok, I'll see you in around 10 minutes then?"

"Sure." I said as I walked out of his bedroom. That was easier than I thought. I quickly covered my mouth and nose, stopping any air from getting through, and made my way outside to grab a quick meal.

"Where are you going?" A voice said behind me. I turned around to see Mito and groaned.

"To get some food." I then ran off at my fastest speed to get away from there before Gon drew any blood.

The streets were dark, the only thing illuminating the quiet town was the moon above it. I looked around for my next victim. It's not like I liked killing. I just didn't care enough about other people to try feeding off of animals. I looked all around the street, but it was bare. People have started to stay home at night because of the attacks. But there was always one person dumb enough to come out.

The sound of unsteady footsteps hitting the dark cement sounded behind me. I looked back to see a man with short light gray hair and skin so dark he looked like a shadow in the night. It was clear he had been out drinking and had a little too much by the way he was walking. I never drank from people who had recently been drinking because it was absolutely disgusting, but I needed to get back to Gon so I'll make an exception just this once.

I stalked behind the barely conscious man getting ready to attack. I looked all around to make sure nobody was able to see me. It sounded like someone was having a party a few blocks away, but other than that, no one was around. I quickly jumped on the man, picked him up, and ran to the forest at full speed. I yeeted him on the ground hard enough to knock him fully unconscious before draining him of his blood and throwing him to a pack a wolves that always lingered near by. As of recently, they have come to rely on me for food.

I wiped my face with a piece of the man's clothes before throwing it off the side of the island and rushing back to Gon's house. I walked inside without knocking and went straight up to Gon's room. Mito was reading something on her phone again, I didn't wanna know what it was though, not after last time.

I opened Gon's door, "I'm back."
