Chapter 44 - The Journey

"Killed her son? The man in the forest? No, that can't be right they said they were sent because I killed her son so it can't be him...." I muttered then it clicked in my head ''Gale the blooded??'' I asked.

"Yes boy, you killed that insufferable brat of hers" the man laughed out before leaving, presumably to tell someone that I was awake.

'Well isn't this just great' i thought to myself as I tried to shift into a more comfortable position but to no avail, my arms were firmly tied behind my back at the wrists and elbows so I couldn't even move my arms under my legs to get my hands in front of me, I was thoroughly bound.

I could feel my mana as my anger stirred but it was as if someone had put a cork on a bottle, I could sense it but the collar was prohibiting me from utilizing the mana in any way except for lighting up my right eye faintly.

I sat in the wooden cage for a few hours before a shift in the camp happened, soldiers were dismantling the camp at a rapid pace as if this was the norm for them, within an hour the camp had been ripped down completely and I was loaded onto a wagon cage and all as it was tied to the back.

We traveled the rest of the day over the pass into the Southlands before cutting west towards The Empire of Slate, that's how they were able to get so far into the Kingdoms borders! They went through the contested lands of the squabbling southerners!

Realizing just how hopeless escape was, I began to get more and more depressed the further along the mountains we went and closer to my inevitable death.

At supper time, a guard took me out of the cage undid my arm bindings so I could do my personal business in a patch of bushes before being led back to my cage so I could eat some hard bread and cheese, they left me a water skin that was half full and warm from the day's sun.

When my hands were first unbound they went to the collar on my neck and immediately tried to pull it apart, seeing this the guard just left before explaining that it was magically locked onto my neck and would take more than one mage to take it off.

The collar was developed so that it could be used against mages who had broken laws, it was made using strange rare metals that were resistant to mana, and so were the perfect too to take restrict a mage's power when formed into a collar and placed around said mages neck.

Now knowing that I wouldn't get rid of this damn collar anytime soon I stopped wasting my effort on trying to get it off.

After I had my food the same guard came in and bound my hands behind my back once again before throwing a blanket on me.

I fell asleep shortly after that as I was still exhausted from the last bonfire I had made of myself, I slept like the dead and didn't even wake up when the camp set off in the morning once again.

Back in Mount Spire, Sergeant Volk was getting chew out by Commander Harriot for failing to keep an asset out of unfriendly hands. When she found out that Bruni had been taken she had been in a meeting with her staff, her anger was so great that after she stopped the meeting and sent her subordinates away she had thrashed the room so bad that it would take many months to restore it into working shape. The damage was so extensive that an entire person could climb through some of the holes in the outer wall, she was livid as she yelled at Volk, "Do you know what you let slip through our grip!" she snapped at the man in a rage "He was most likely an Envoy of Destruction!" she said as fear crept onto Volks face.

"The Envoys are a myth!" Volk responded with a pale face before asking, "how do you know he is an Envoy?"

Commander Harriot looked down on Volk before carefully responding, "Envoys really do exist, the telltale signs are always the eyes. This Envoy is different though, it is only one eye so we weren't sure until we found a passage in an old Prophecy" she explained before saying continuing "The son of Destruction will have come, when one eye shines bright in the darkest of days, He will be doom but also salvation." she spoke as if reading from a scroll in her head before looking at Volks face once again.

Volk gaped at Commander Harriot in horror before asking, "That sounds like Bruni but surely it can't be that boy, he is only newly awoken?!" he exclaimed loudly before looking down after seeing Commander Harriot's look.

"I know you think you were doing the right thing trying to keep my daughter from harm but she was in no real danger, you also weren't told of Bruni's nature as Kace was supposed to watch after the boy. I don't entirely blame you for what has happened but he was in your care before being taken so you must shoulder the consequences, from this point on you are hereby assigned to a newly formed team that is solely dedicated to retrieving Bruni before Doom comes to us all.

Meanwhile, I was shuddering in fear as to what my future would hold? I was alone and I was on my way to meet the mother of my own mother's killer, "why me?" I asked quietly as I was lost in my thoughts.
