Seeing the woman stalk towards me as magic flowed down her arm was a scary sight to see. she looked like a fire god incarnate!
My magic started to respond to the panic I was starting to feel, orange flames lit up the length of my hair and burnt the hair tie up completely as my hair started to flow out behind me like a sea of fire.
Next, my right eye started to turn a fiery orange as the mana started to pour through my body!
This caught the women's attention as she stopped and inspected the wild mana as it started to heat the space around me. "Wild magic is always so exciting!" the woman spoke aloud with a gleam in her eyes as she continued towards me without fear.
At this, I raised my fists into an unarmed ready stance that Reed had taught me for a few months last year.
Seeing me finally enter a ready state the woman crushed the fireball into her hand. From her fingers, flames sprang across her whole hand and up just past her fist as she quick-stepped into striking range and swung almost casually towards my guard.
I knew that whatever she had done to her hand looked scary as hell, I had to dodge no matter what, I should dodge all things that are on fire I figured as I back stepped backward.
The woman fast stepped again to get within my guard before she tried to punch me. This time I couldn't fully dodge and so she managed to graze my ribs and as her hand touched my shirt I felt extreme pain and heat emanating from the contact before I was thrown sideways off my feet and into a heap on the ground a couple of meters away.
"What was that! I'm pretty sure I was able to dodge her punch for the most part!" I thought to myself fiercely!
"Get up boy!" the women ordered me with a condescending tone.
Anger started to pour out of me as I slowly made my way to my feet all the while holding the almost sunburned red exposed skin on my ribs.
The pain was incredible but it started to fade as anger and hatred replaced it. "What right did this woman have to attack me! Wasn't she going to assess me?! Not trying to kill me!" I thought as mana started to poor down both of my arms and my hair whipped back and forth a bit faster now with even more fire enveloping it!
I take a step towards the woman with my fists raised up in guard once again. just as I was going to tack a second step the other mage quick-stepped once again into my space just as I expected her to!
My fist swung forward as fast as I could towards her face, halfway to her head a hand wreathed in fire nudged my fist away from her as she used my swing to rush into my guard and headbutt me savagely!
Blinding pain engulfed the whole front of my face as I dropped to one knee dizzily and the bright light blinded me from the brutal attack.
"Very talented." The women spoke casually as she let go of her mana and walked away., I was no longer a threat and she had stopped me from going out of control.
"what the hell was that?" I asked angrily as the world stopped spinning and I could see again a little as tears still blocked some of my vision.
"I stopped a wild mage from losing control of his not inconsiderable magic." the woman said with a sly smile as she waved me to follow her to a nearby table with chairs.
"I was testing your potential." after I got to the table and sat down without saying a word, I held my face as I glared up at the woman till she finally replied to my question.
"You had to nearly burn me alive to do that?" I asked with resentment.
"yes, I tested your mana capacity when I got you angry enough to not only waste mana off your hair but for you to infuse your fists with it, that's why I had to block with the fire gauntlet instead of my own fist, you had a considerable amount of raw fire mana covering your arms up to your elbow".
"Next, I tested your potential body enhancement when I kept quick-stepping into your guard to test your reaction time, speed, and even your strength."
"Who is this woman? I thought to myself as I stared at her slack-jawed amazement! She really was testing me! she is ripping apart my performance as if she has done this many times!
"Who are you?" I said out loud as I stared at the beautiful woman before me.
"I am Commander Harriott from the second Division of the Mage Corps," she said with steel in her eyes. "You may call me ma'am for the time being.'
I looked up at her with a bit of fear in my eyes as she had just literally savaged my face in a very unladylike manner, and didn't even have a scuff on her head to show for it! "yes ma'am!"
"I also found out that you are decently resilient for a Mageling, you took a grazing blow from my fire gauntlet and only have slightly reddened skin, it should have given you a nasty bruise a few inches across your ribs." the commander said as she continued to look at me.
"The only thing I don't understand is why one of your eyes seems to also become infused with fire mana while the other stays grey." the woman stated as she could still see orange around the inside of my eye faintly.
