Archer:
We had escaped Aevelyn under the cover of darkness on horses we had taken from the stables. We would have taken a wagon but they were very heavy and we didn't need the extra weight, we would approach this journey on horseback. With the Fire sword and Water whip strpped against each of my hips, we now travelled along the Lost Trail, heading south towards the ruins of castle Kiralas. There was a long road ahead.
We had been travelling for 2 days non-stop now and I could tell we were all tired, the sun had fallen once again and I could hear the yawns of the twins trailing behind me. Just a little over an hour ago we had passed the crossroads that connected the Glandara Road to the Lost Trail. We made sure there was no one near to see us crossing, we couldn't risk being followed or revealing the hidden entrance to the trail. But now we were past the crossroads we headed into the Empty Terrain, otherwise known as the Broken South of Glendara. The place no one ever dared to go after Kiralas fell and the war ended. The place said to be haunted by the dead.
"Archer, we have to stop. We are exhausted," I turned my head around as I heard Arties voice. I could tell how tired he was just by his voice. On the rear of his horse I could see Sadie holding onto his waist, barely awake. He was right, we needed rest.
"We can stop here," I heard their sighs of relief as we halted our horses.
The feel of our boots hitting the ground was a massive relief, we could rest finally. Holding the reins of my horse, I walked to the others. Sadie was now asleep and in her brother's arms, had fallen straight into them out of exhaustion.
"She ok?" I whispered, scared I would wake her
"Just tired," Artie whispered in return "can you get the bedrolls?" I nodded in my head in response.
I took a big step around my horse and let the wind ruffle my ginger hair. I took in the wind, letting it sooth my tiredness. The air was so much cleaner here, yet it was strange. It felt empty and it felt sad, like it carried the memories of the people who died in this part of the land 5 years ago. I closed my eyes and tried to imagine the pain of those people, mothers cradling their screaming children, weeping husbands clutching onto their lifeless partners, and so much blood. So many screams. There was chaos and there was pain. So many dead. Witches and humans. Kiralas had been on the witches side and so they had to die. But this was too much. Too many dead, why did the king do thi-
"Archer!" I released a sudden breath as Artie shook me viciously. I could feel sweat on my face and tears in my eyes, I was crying. "Archer!" Artie cried again and I snapped my attention to him,
"Yes," I responded, but he hauled me into him and he hugged me tightly, hugged me like there was no tomorrow. "What is it, Artie?"
His face was pale as he pulled away from me finally. "Archer, you disappeared," I stumbled backwards shocked and stared at him, he was as confused as I was. "I asked you to get the bedrolls, and then when I turned around you were gone. 2 hours, Archer. 2 hours I waited for you, and then you just pop up, out thin air." I could see tears forming in his eyes now and I couldn't blame him, I had disappeared for 2 hours without a trace, which led me to my first question. What had happened to me?
Lilith:
Another day, another sunrise. I had woken early every day to watch the rising sun, savouring every moment. This new found power of mine. I knew a war another was coming and I didn't know how it would end; either me living the life I truly wanted, or death. But for now I could see the light and it comforted me, readying me for the darkness that was inevitably coming.
