After an hour, I was finally able to see my house in the distance. My surroundings were drenched in darkness as it was nighttime. I sat on some stairs of my house and tried to catch my breath. While doing so I thought of the mysterious girl I had met earlier. I began regretting that I didn't try to start a conversation with her. Although I felt strongly about this I decided not to dwell on the topic for too long. I took a deep breath and opened my door.
In the living room, crying and expressing concern, was my mom. When she realized I had returned home she firmly embraced me and continuously begged me to listen to her more often. Being considerate of her current state, I agreed and hugged her back. After the hug was over, I headed straight to bathe so I could sleep immediately after. For some reason, I couldn't shake the thoughts I had of this girl. It came to a point where I just sat in the shower refusing to move.
Sometime after I entered my room. I lay down while feeling frustrated at myself and a bit confused. "Why can't I stop thinking of this girl? I don't even know anything about her. I didn't even get to see her face. All I know about her is that she's probably my age and that she has long messy hair." I thought to myself. Eventually, I forced myself to sleep so I could stop thinking about this girl. Little did I know sleeping would just make things worse.
That night, instead of normally getting the dream that makes me cry during it, I dreamt of the girl for the entire night. I dreamt about possible outcomes that might probably happen if I had tried talking to her. When I woke up the next morning I had mixed emotions. I was angry at myself for dreaming about someone that I didn't know, but I felt happy because, for the first time in a while, I didn't wake up with tears running down my face.
With all the things that happened recently, I forgot that school had resumed. I hurried to prepare for school and tried to get back on track. With all the energy I had, I dashed to school not stopping once. Because of this I was extremely exhausted by the time I made it there. I caught my breath and looked at my campus with a smile on my face. I was ready for any challenge the school could present to me. Everyone greeted me as they passed me.
I was not the most popular child in our year. Despite this, I talked with almost everyone so I made a lot of friends. I was on top of both academics and the physical education portion. Every year, I brought home nothing but straight A's, and since I was a part of the basketball team so, naturally, I was athletic. I had walked into my class and there were my two best friends talking to each other. "Hey guys! Long time no see."
As I happily approached my friends Samantha, my female best friend, slapped me. "Ow!!! That hurts. What was that for?" "It's too early for you to be making a noise," she stated. "Yeah bro, maintain the peace," Alexander added. I apologized and we all hugged each other. Ever since the three of us met last year at the start of high school, we were inseparable. Samantha was the responsible older sister of the group, Alexander was the laid-back and lazy one, and I was the hard-working one.
Unfortunately, we didn't have much time to keep in touch during the summer because I had to practice my basketball skills, Samantha had some art lessons, and Alexander had graphic design classes. All of us knew what we liked and wanted to become better at them. We engaged in an interesting conversation informing each other about our summer experiences. It was amazing to learn what my friends were up to. Unfortunately, it had to come to an end.
"Please stop what you're doing, stand and greet the teacher." Peter, the class representative, said, and we did as he was told. "Thank you, Peter. Class, I have some important news to bestow on you. We have a new transfer student. Come in and introduce yourself to the class." As he signalled a 5-foot Asian girl with long black curly hair. "Hello, my name is Ayumi and I'll be going to school here from now on." She said quite timidly. For some reason, I had the feeling that I had met her before.
"Kennedy," the teacher had gained my attention, "can you show Ayumi around the school?" "No problem teacher." She sat in an empty seat next to me and we continued class like it was normal. During class, I could tell the new student struggled to stay awake. Also, I attempted to help her whenever she realized she didn't understand something. Little by little, she was opening up to me, and eventually, we even had a conversation. I had made a new friend.
I made sure at lunch that I asked if she wanted to eat with me and my best friends. She agreed, so I dragged her to our normal spot, which was usually quiet and usually not interrupted. "Yo bro, who is this?" "Isn't that the new transfer?" "Yup, she is, and I invited her to spend lunch with us." "I hope I'm not intruding." "Not at all. it would be good to have another girl for once." "What's that supposed to mean?" "You boys might rub off on me." As they argued I had a smile on my face because I miss my friends so much. I looked at Ayumi and saw her chuckling. I was glad she was enjoying herself.
She gradually opened up to my friends and after a long conversation, I decided to escort her around the school. I showed her the library, the cafeteria, the labs and the hall. I even showed her some of the spots I go to when I'm tired of being around others and need some time to myself. Unexpectedly, when we were rejoining our friends, she stopped in the middle of the walk. I looked back at her and approached her. "It was you wasn't it?" I was in a state of shock and confusion because I didn't even know what she meant. "It was you in that building wasn't it?" I was rendered speechless.
