Chapter 2 - Chapter two

The weather is as warm as a furnace when I wake up and the sun is shining dimly. The snow on the grass is slowly melting and the frost on the trees are falling of.

I wake up and go to the bathroom.I take off my clothes before stepping into the wooden carved bathtub filled with warm water.

My father made every funiture in this house.

I pour some shampoo in my hair and scrub it very well.

I fill my sponge with shampoo and bath.

I put on a red woven straight dress with red flats and tied my hair in a ponytail before going downstairs to eat my breakfast.

"Good morning ma"I greet my mother as I kiss her on the cheeks. My father is seated and eating chocolate cake with hot chocolate drink.

"Hi Laura"I hug her tightly and sit next to her.

"Ready for school?"

She nodds a 'yes' and takes a bite of her ginger bread biscuits. My mother places a bowl of vanilla custard and a huge slice of chocolate cake infront of me.

She takes her seat and eats her chocolate cake.

"I've put some shortbread biscuits and cupcakes in your bag"

"Thanks ma"

She smiles back.

After I finish eating my breakfast,I pick up my leather hand bag.I wave at my family before I hit the road for school.

The weather was very pleasing and I enjoy the song of the birds chirping.

I enter my school.

I take a seat next to Maria,my sitting partner before our chemistry teacher walks in. Mrs.Danielle is our chemistry teacher.

After two hours of boring chemistry lesson, the siren rings and students rush out of the room.I bring out my shortbread biscuits and sit down to eat.

"Did you bring me some shortbread biscuits"Hannah asks as she settles down in the chair next to the one I was sitting in.Hannah's family used to be our neighbours before the hurricane attacked and we moved into the forest to live.

"Yes"I answer as I take one pack of shortbread biscuits from my bag and hand it to her.

"Thanks"

"You're always welcome"

"You going for lunch"

"No"

"Okay"She shrugs her shoulders"I'll be at the cafeteria.

She skipps out of the classroom.

By the time school is over, the snow has melted off everything and I can see the beauty of the trees.I sometimes feel sad if I have to walk home while my friends go home with cars.

Sometimes when people I  know ask me where we live I tell them that we have moved to somewhere far from the town.

The forest.

I run as fast i can and look around to make sure nobody's following me.

No one.All clear.

I open the door to our home. The door creeks open and a house is filled with darkness and defeaning silence.I turn on the oil lamps to bring life into our hall and go to my room.

I take of my red flats and place them on the tiger skin carpet next to all my shoes and slippers.

I throw my self on my bed and cover myself with the warm blankets.

I rise up from my bed and drag the curtains of my window.I smile.

I love seeing the green trees, the chirping birds and deers.I open the windows and inhale the fresh air.The smell of fresh trees and wet mud and grass fill my nose.

"Ana-anasta-sia! "The screaming voice of my sister alarms me.

"Laura!Laura?is that you"I ask desperately.

"Anas-tacial!!!"

I feel scared.Laura is just a kid who can't defend herself.Or a baby as I like to call her.

She might be helpless,in the woods.Alone.

The thought of her being attacked by bush rats, owls and a antelopes clouded my mind.

I put on a pair of brown slippers and run out of my room. I stand in front of our house.

"Ana-ansta-cia!!!Ana-stacia!!!"

"I'm coming Laura!"I scream after her voice.

I run deeper into the woods.

I can't hear her voice anymore.

"Laura!!"I scream as I walk futher into the forest.

I can no more hear voice and i find myself deeper into the woods.

I turn around, looking behind and beside me.

I can't see Laura anywhere and I'm surronded by green.

Something dark, more like a silhouette or a shadow walks amongst the trees.

Fast. So fast that I couldn't see it properly.

Something catches my attention.

Something shiny far beyond the trees.I run as fast my legs can take me and I come to a halt.

Something lay buried in the soft muddy ground.

It doesn't look as shiny as I saw it from afar.

I can only see the wooden edge of what I think is a box, buried in the ground.

I try to pull it out;I hold the edge of the wooden material and tried to pull it.I fall hard on buttocks and take a look at my palms.

I see red and purple marks in my palms.

I look around to see if I can get something suitable to pull the thing out.

I find a hard wooden stick lying beside me.I crawl and grab it.

I dig around the box.And dig and dig deeper till I see the the other side of the box.

I dig deeper till I can see a huge hole and in the middle of it is a brown box.

My instincts are right

The box is dark brown like the bark of forest trees and an emerald stone is fixed tightly in the lid of the old box.

I pick up the box and examine the sides and faces.

Suddenly  the clouds turn black like I have done something to spark their anger and a huge wind begins to blow, bending the trees backwards. All the birds hug themselves as the stay in their nests.

My feet are getting slippery and the wind pushes me backwards, taking over my body and hitting me amongst the tall hard stems of the huge trees.

Pain climbs up my body as I hold the box tightly.

That is all I remember. Then everything is pitch black.
