Hustling towards, me, "Fran, have you seen Jamie this morning?" She asks, worried and panicking.
Looking up from the newspapers in front of me, to meet Mrs. Stanley's worried expression, "no," I responded, thoughtfully, getting up from the table to go to Jamie's room. "Now that I think about it, I haven't seen her all day yesterday either, because I returned late from the office." I explained, knocking the door of room Jamie shares with my son.
"Jamie?" I knocked and called but there was not answer. Knocking again, "Jamie, sweetheart, are you okay?" I asked louder and kept knocking. I turned the door knob, but it was locked from the inside.
I was about to move, when Mrs. Stanley stopped me, "wait, I'll go around the back." She offered, starting to go into a panic mode.
Nodding I stood at the door and kept knocking, with my thoughts running off to worst case scenarios.
I heard the locks opening and I started to breath a sigh of relief, but I held my breath when I saw Mrs. Stanley's face.
Not bothering to ask any questions, I pushed past her and entered the clean room, with everything in tact, but something does seem off. I noticed that Jamie's chair is folded neatly in a corner, as I walked into the room. Everything is in place, except Jamie.
"Call Justin or Cameron" I instructed Mrs. Stanley, as I became anxious. Something is wrong and God I hope Jamie's safe.
Mrs. Stanley went out the back entrance shouting from the top of her voice to get the attention of one of the security.
"Get Cameron and Justin here, quickly." I heard her shout before she returns briskly into the bedroom and met my eyes and I believe that we both mirrored the same expression.
"Jerome" I remembered and she was about to run again, but I stopped her. "I'll go this time." I said heading back into the hallway towards Jerome's room, holding my chest.
Forgetting to knock, I barged into Jerome's room, breathless and looking around while a shocked Jerome, clad in a boxers sat on the bed with his phone in his hands, staring at me.
"Jamie's not here" I muttered to myself and Jerome stands, frowning at my comment. Shaking my head, I walked back to the door and Jerome follows me.
"Where's Jamie?" He asks and I look up, worried now. I shrugged my shoulders, hoping she just step out for my sunlight because I have no idea how I can tell my son that his wife is missing.
"Mom!" Jerome, shouts. "Where is Jamie" he asks again, in a softer tone, while I just shook my head, having no answer to give anyone.
Limping back to his bed, "I'll be right down." He said and starts pulling his clothes together. His face was still showing heavy bruising and I am sure that with his broken ribs, that he is in a lot of pain.
"You should be resting" I said instead, already expecting him to disagree with me. I went back down to see Mrs. Stanley, Justin and Cameron with two other men working with them, pacing anxiously.
I met Justin eyes and I shook my head as I walk down stairs.
"She can't just walk out of the compound, we have security all around." Justin turn to one of the guards, "find the girl who is staying in my room" he flicks a finger at his temple, willing it to remember her name but apparently he couldn't because he never knew it.
"Gwen" I helped him and the security nods but before he could go in search of her, she came down the step, walking behind Jerome who must have called her.
"Have you seen Jamie?" Justin asked quickly, eliminating any pleasenties with her.
Nodding with a confused look, "Uh, yeah, earlier when I came into the kitchen, when you all were there, talking." Gwen says pointing at all of us, except the security guards and Jerome.
Looking at the guys as I tried to refresh my mind on our conversation in case Jamie overheard something bad.
"That will be all" Cameron, dismisses Gwen with a wave of his hand, and slaps Justin's arm and tilted his head for Justin to follow him.
Mrs. Stanley covered her mouth as realization dawned on me about the conversation she must have overheard and probably didn't quite understand.
With Gwen, reluctantly heading back to Justin's room, since Jerome reclaimed his room after he returned from the hospital. I followed Justin and Cameron into the kitchen with Jerome and Mrs. Stanley behind me.
We all stood looking at each other, before Cameron, who was fiddling with his phone, breathes deeply before putting his phone, to his ear.
"I can't begin to imagine how angry Logan will be." I muttered and I know that without saying anything to each other, that we are all aware of the conversation Jamie must have overheard, because that is the only reason she would run, if she ran.
"No one saw her you say?" Jerome asks suddenly and Justin and Cameron, immediately agreed, while Cameron wait for his phone call to Logan to be answered.
"Call Francis" I reminded them that Logan and his dad are together.
While Cameron dialed Francis number, Jerome continued, "get some guys ready, if she went through the back, I know where she went" he says and Justin without asking question, instructed the security to get more men to help look for Jamie.
Looking at Jerome standing there, with a pained expression. "Give them directions and they will go, you don't have to strain yourself more." I was saying when Justin cut me across.
"No he knows the woods more than we do and it will be faster." Justin says and before I could respond, Jerome agrees with Justin.
"I have too go" he mumbled and as I heard Cameron, who had moved away from us whispering to my husband.
