After a long and interesting conversation, I accepted the pastries from Jamie's grandfather with the promise to bring her out to visit soon.
He left happy with the unexpected news I shared with him about Jamie's pregnancy. I also explained the danger that she is in because of a case I won against well known criminals so keeping our location a secret is imperative. I could hardly tell him the truth without him get caught in the middle of some crossfire.
I felt like Little Red Riding hood, as I carried a huge basket full of pastries to the kitchen, leaving it in Mrs. Stan hands.
"Jamie's is taking a nap, I'll be with her" I notify Mrs. Stan in case mom is looking for me, walking off, passing Gwen, coming down the stairs, I ignored her, on my way to my room.
"Morning Logan" she greeted me with a shy smile, that annoyed me.
Glaring at her, "it's Mr. Daniels to you" I retorted rudely.
Surprise, her eyes widen nervously, "uh, sorry" she whispers. "Uh, um, Mr. Daniels, do you have problems with cell phones reception out here?" she asks and I stopped to give her a hearing, because I know that her two cell phones are now blocked by Whiz.
Nodding, "yes there isn't any dishes out here" I informed her curtly. "if you need to make any calls, just ask, there is an in-house phone available" I started walking away.
Following me, "this is a beautiful place, is it yours? " she asks curiously or making conversation but in any case, it's non of her f******business, I stopped and turned to stare at her. She is either that brave or definitely curious.
"It belongs to the man who came to visit me earlier" I mocked her. "Remember you were sneaking peeks at us?" I walked off without a backwards glance.
Unlocking the bedroom door, expecting to see my wife at least halfway asleep but again Jamie didn't fail to disappoint with her stubbornness.
"Waiting for me to put you to sleep?" I seductively move towards her, spinning around the office chair she sat on, behind the desk.
"I need to tell you something" she lifts her eyes nervously.
Sitting on the edge of desk, I nod for her to continue.
'When Jer and I were younger, he was running some kind of creepy thing outside " she points to the open window. "And he didn't return for a long while, so we all separated to find him" she continues.
Taking a deep breath, "I remember seeing a plaque flat on the ground a few yards away from the river, that read, LEAH, WIFE, MOTHER, DAUGHTER!" she looks up, eyes widen, nervous and fearful. "To you think that's my mother?" she whispers softly, her eyes hopeful, willing me to give her the answer she seeks.
"Did you mention your findings to your family?" I avoided telling her the truth, because I don't believe it's my place to do so.
Briefly looking away from me to the window, "grandma said that it was private property and we were not suppose to go there again." she repeats her family response when she asked them about the plaque.
With a sad smile Jamie turn to me, "can you help me find the owners of the property?" she reaches out for my hand, moving to stand between my legs.
Wrapping my arms on her hips, "I have a better idea" I said. "Dr. Morris is suppose to visit you, tomorrow or the day after. When I'm satisfied with your checkup, I'll take you to visit Mr. Phillips" tilting my head to the side waiting for her reaction.
Throwing herself into me, her arms around her neck, "oh thank you, thank you, thank you" she squeals happily and I smile because Jamie will have the family she's anxious about.
"Mrs. Phillips sent you some pastries, it's in the kitchen " I remember to tell her, which adds to her excitement.
Suddenly remembering the spy outside, "Jamie what are we going to do with Gwen? She's here to assist you and honestly, I don't want her around you, me, the kitchen" I shook my head, still unable to find a place for her.
"And you can't risk sending her back!" Jamie muses, thoughtfully.
Nodding in agreement, "why did you bring her here again?" I asked.
Smiling sheepishly, "you wanted me to have help and I figured her being here would be good for my brother?" shrugging her shoulders she explain.
"Jamie I'm not comfortable with her around you.' I moved to walk over to the bed, pulling my shirt over my head.
" I need to sleep, if you're going outside, use that entrance," I point towards the backdoor. " We need to install an AC in here" I mutter diving on the bed, drunk with sleep.
The room was dark when I got up, disoriented from a deep sleep.
"What the f***!"Where is Jamie, I mutter sitting up, adjusting my eyes to the dimness of the room.
"Jamie?" I walked toward the bathroom which is dark and turned the lights on to use the washroom and freshen myself up.
Turning on the lights in the bedroom, I was about to open the bedroom door when I saw the curtain at the backdoor flying.
"Jamie" I walked out, raising the curtain and smile when I see Jamie curled up asleep in a double sofa. Glancing around I noticed Jamie's made the area into an open sitting room with some furniture from the storage room.
"And so sleeping beauty awakes?" mom chuckles as she walks with a tray in her hand and she's in dad's hands.
Shaking my head, "nah, I'm just about to wake her" I retorted, as I moved Jamie's leg to sit and placing it on my lap.
Handing dad and I each a cup of coffee, "I'm going to bring us dinner" mom goes back to the side of the house.
"Pass through here!"
