JAMIE'S POV
Mrs. Stanley starts to panic noticing that I'm visibly shaken by this information. Placing her hand on mines.
"Jamie, if what I going to share with puts you or your baby in danger Logan will never forgive me." she says sternly. I tried composing myself, nodding in agreement.
"Okay, yes I understand," I assured her, because I need to fully understand what is going on between Jess and I, in order to rectify our problems.
Nodding, Mrs. Stanley again diverted her attention to the doorway before she continues.
"I first started hearing Mr. Daniels pushing Logan's mom to give Jessica a break at modelling. Then he started singing her praises, complimenting her looks and how much she could add to the modeling world and Francis Fashions House."
Her eyes darkens as she remembers what she saw or heard. "After only a day or two of praising her looks, her figure and sense of style, she was already buying what he was selling. The last straw came when we heard that the doctor give Logan a clean bill of health. It was then that Mr. Daniels started to up his game." she said with a disgusted twist on her lips.
"Mr. Daniels mentioned that Jessica is more beautiful than you and that he's sure, if Jessica was eighteen, his grandson would have never given Jamie a second thought or look." Mrs. Stanley continues to speak with a fusion of hate and anger, her fists tightened on the table top.
"He was trying to boost her morale, he said he couldn't believe that she could be related to an ugly duckling like you." Mrs. Stanley kept her eyes on me pausing and waiting for a response from me, but I was numb and didn't want to hear more but realizing that I needed to.
"It was then that Jessica mention that she wasn't your sister. She repeated conversations she overhead between her father and her mother. Your mother died and you were adopted into the family, but your mother left you her property so they kept you with them and lived in your house. She said that her grandparents felt sorry for you and treated you better than they treated her after her parents died." I rolled the chair backwards in shock when I heard that.
No! No one could feigned love like that. Not the way gramps and grams showered her with so much love and attention.
Shaking my head, "I am who I am today because of them. Gramps and Grams taught me everything I know. They loved me" I cried trying to deny what she overheard Jess saying.
Her eyes sad as if she felt my pain, "how did your parents treat you?" she asked instead. Is she trying to sow doubts in my heart.
Smiling as I remembered my parents, "they loved me, they treated me great." I said confidently. My parents loved me!
Standing up, "are you done?" Mrs. Stanley asks and picks up my plate when I nod, knowing that my appetite has gone.
Mrs. Stanley may not know it, but the doubts are there. I rolled the chair away heading back to my room lost in thought, when I heard mom coming down the stairs, followed by dad who was grinning like a man who just won the lottery.
I stopped to wait for them, because I haven't seen dad since we came here and I know that mom is happy to see him.
Moving past mom, dad came and hugged me, "Jamie I'm so happy to see looking so great. Logan was so frantic after everything that happened. We are securing you, Fran and everyone here until we get rid of the dangerous people dad has brought into our lives in the hope of roping Logan back in." dad shares with me.
"Dangerous people?" I repeated. He looked at mom in surprise and as quick was, I still saw her shaking her head to silence him.
They all know what's going on except me.
Crumpling my face in frustration, I turned my chair and headed back to my room hearing footsteps behind me.
"Jamie, sweetheart" mom, came to stand in front of me.
Normally I would have fought back verbally or physically but since I've been pregnant, my emotional strength have gone and in it's place is a poor pathetic woman.
"Nobody tells me anything. If I knew our lives were in danger I would have stayed in the cabin and not end up in a freezing lake." I cried, staring at dad. I look between mom and dad, realizing, they not my parents either.
Putting his hand on my head, trying to console me, "Logan doesn't want anything bothering you or upsetting you during your pregnancy." dad says, stooping to my eye level.
Mom stoops also to meet me eye level, "Jamie, I am also in the dark about a lot of things except the Daniels family background. I feel the less I know the better for me, because to be honest, I am afraid." she smiles sadly, then chuckles, "but I am not you! You are a strong resilient woman whose able to standup and I am sorry for allowing your husband to keep you in the dark about everything, like I am with his father." Mom kisses me on my head.
I look behind me and turned back to dad and mom, "I need to tell you something, but can we go out to the lake so we can talk freely?" I asked and dad nodded.
"I'll let Mrs. Stanley bring some refreshments out." Mom agrees going towards the kitchen while dad pushes my chair despite my protests.
We were around a table in gramps favourite spot, when I started to repeat everything Mrs. Stanley revealed to me. I asked Mrs. Stanley to remain because she's also family.
Mrs. Stanley added more information that she is privy to because of Gwen.
"Also, can you help me find my family."
