It's finally time, you slowly and quietly stand up from the couch, slowly moving towards your Weapons Chamber. Navigating in complete darkness in your own House is very easy, considering as a Child, you could've walked through the house blindfolded.
Finally, the door handle. You open the door and leave it open for easy manoeuvring. Once inside the room, you have a small amount of Moonlight shin in through the small spaces in the boarding of the Window, this helps quite a bit.
You've found your Rifle, change your Clothes and finally grab your Vest and Helmet. The straps of the Vest make noise if you close them, so you'll leave them open. Feeling the need for a backpack to carry valuable items, you start looking for one. Turning around, there are 3 backpacks hanging from the wall, a small and tactical one, a larger and more bulky one and finally a large, slick and tactical looking one. The choice is obvious, the last is the best option.
Grabbing that, you check one last time to make sure you haven't forgotten anything. Now, you slowly move towards the front door, taking a look at the house before leaving.
"I'm sorry everyone, but this is for our safety..." you think to yourself, exiting the House.
Locking the door, you close the Vest's straps and tighten the Backpack so that it doesn't jump around while moving. Swiftly moving towards the Gate, the Guards seem to be missing. A worrisome discovery, but the Defence System is active, the Turrets are scanning for targets, a huge relief.
Instead of opening the Gate and making noise to wake the entire Town. You walk onto the walls and descent using a rope.
"Right, you two there?" you ask your Spirits.
"Always at your service Milord." the Spirits answer.
Their words creating an idea in your head,
"I should ask Katie and Kate to dress as Maids once, that would be fascinating to see." you mumble your desire to yourself, a rather carnal one on top.
"That is for you to decide, we advice you to concentrate on the Mission at hand Milord." the Hound suggests.
"Yeah, yeah... no worries. This will be a cakewalk, I will enjoy this." you mumble out loud.
The Camp where the respective Unit should rest is at the same location since the day you've intercepted that convoy. The Rest of the slaves where humans, your starting to think that Kilu Foxes are quite a rare type, just like the Harshell ones.
Starting to march at a constant pace you listen to natures music, composed by it's flying musicians and hopping singers. A clear sign of the local area, that the Dawn of Summer is here. A terrifying time, but also one of relaxing and happy moments.
Looking at your Device, the distance is approximately 9km from your current position, the ETA(Estimated Time Arrival) is a solid 40 minutes.
"Eh, not too bad... could've been better though. Oh well, next time." you mumble to yourself.
A mist forms on your left side, the Hound has appeared.
"Something happen?" you ask your follower.
"Not at all, this scenery is peaceful, it reminds me of my Past." he confesses, his voice bearing pain.
"How was it... who did you follow?" you ask him in a compassionate tone.
"The utter horror of being a Hound is seeing the Family you should've protected panic, anxiously hiding in a corner. I couldn't do anything." the hound shows his fear.
The Horror he shows is a perfect description of the Nightmare you've... before you've met the Foxes. You decide to say what's on your mind.
"I'm glad that I've another Lord to serve that gives his all for his family. Only one other I've met that shares the same traits as you." the hounds adds.
"Who was that person?" you ask him, looking around for hostiles.
"He was a noble Men, not rich nor poor. He had two children, married to one Fox Girl. I kept an Eye on the Kids while he was working. His Wife, sleeping beside the Kids." the Hound anxiously says.
"One Night, there was a Thunder Storm, the kids were... scared, they hid together with the Mother behind the bed. I couldn't do anything... I could just watch as they cried for hours..." he adds.
His Story is touching but also burns the soul a bit.
"It's a Mother's job to keep her children safe in the first place, you were the Family's Guardian. But did your Protection of that family end?" you comfort him, ending trying to end the conversation with a good question hopefully.
"It was a very happy one, the Kids grew up strong and healthy. Each of them got a Job and married, soon after that their ageing Parents passed and I was not needed anymore. The kids still remembered me on that Day. Something I didn't expect." he confesses.
"You did your job, now I have to do mine." you mumble to him.
"Yours is ten times harder than mine was. This new World has no place for the ignorant or the unwilling." he adds.
The Daemon breaks the conversation by materializing beside you,
"Milord, I advice a break here. You have only 5km to march until the destination is reached." he suggests.
"I'll take one when we are 2km away, notify me again please." you tell him, the Daemon nods and slowly vanishes into thin air.
The night is peaceful, except for the occasional infected screaming into the night. A very strange occurrence, not one bit of information is available as to why they behave like this. In the worst-case scenario, there's a Horde nearby and that's their Leader screaming.
"Hound, go find the source of that scream." you instruct your Hound.
"Certainly, right away." he says, dashing into the darkness of the night.
The Daemon is uncertain what that was, he suggests to be on high alert from now on. In addition, you feel an urge to march faster, in case the infected are drawn to the blood of the Battlefield in in the distance.
That would be almost impossible, they couldn't possibly smell the blood that is older than 24 hours over a distance of more than 1km.
The Hound calls you out,
"Milord, you were wrong... it was a Wild Animal, a Dear to exact." he reports.
"Dear?! What is it doing here?" you say surprised.
"Sadly, it has been infected by the virus... a mutated Dear. The Scream is of pain as the virus takes over the Host, it seems to work slower on Animals." the Hound notes.
"Put it out of its misery, but quickly." you add.
After his objective has been completed the hound returns,
"This might a decent Spot to camp for a bit Milord, I suggest a very early breakfast, I sense the presence of your Targets. There is quite a few of them.." the hound remarks.
"Yup, that is our Target. Once we kill them, we go back home to our family. Understood?" you ask your followers.
"Certainly Milord, we suggest a breakfast before the massacre." the Spirits suggest.
"Yeah yeah, I got it the first time *sigh*" you tell them.
Looking around for a place to set up your temporary camp, you spot a small hilltop. It is surrounded by a few high rocks, perfectly suited for cover.
Putting your rifle on your back, a few stones are peeking outside the Rockwall you grab onto them and start climbing the overhang. Once on top, you lay down your Backpack and Rifle to start preparing the MRE's.
"You two eating?" you ask the spirits.
"Usually we don't eat at all Milord, perhaps another time. Thank you kindly for the Offer." they respond.
"Suit yourselves." you tell them.
With that, you await the time you can start eating. After hopefully savouring the meal, you can start your Attack. Nothing will be left after you've killed and levelled everything.
