Clare bared her pearly white teeth like a wolf that had caught its prey. Although the air inside the elevator was a bit suffocating, she found the tightly knit eyebrows on Jaxon's face especially amusing.
It was considered as one of her small wins as what she did that made his discomfort for the whole situation, clearly evident.
' A win is a win.'
Ding!
The elevator opened and Jaxon glanced back to cast a glare towards Clare's direction which she had responded with blowing a kiss to him.
He sighed in defeat.
"Let's go."
Clare smiled in victory.
" Yes, baby."
She deliberately increased the volume of her voice and laced it with a bit of a flirtatious tone.
The staff on the hotel's reception who witnessed the scene gasped in shock anticipating a brutal retaliation of some sort coming from Jaxon.
Contrary to their expectations, there was no response from the latter and he just went ahead to exit the hotel and go to the hotel's entrance.
Clare was gloating inside. Before they entered the elevator, she had made a deal with Jaxon, who had struggled to get the card key out of her the entire time and had no choice but to succumb to her demands.
She almost skipped in happiness recalling the terms she set…
'Working smarter is better than working harder.'
Clare followed Jaxon all the way outside the hotel's premises, where he talked to a valet to fetch his car. The valet immediately picked up his request and drove the black luxurious sports car in front of them and handed the keys to its owner.
"Get inside."
The door rolled up and Clare flinched in surprise.
She had always known that some expensive cars have this function but it was still surprising seeing it up close and being able to ride something like it.
" What? Get in."
Jaxon called for her attention seeing her jaw dropped from seeing the revolving door of his car.
Displeasure was an understatement to whatever feeling he had at the moment, it was more of 'he wanted to keep this midget far far away from him'.
Embarrassed that her ignorance was caught sat on the passenger seat comfortably and faced him.
Pointing towards Jaxon who was fixing his seatbelt , Clare cleared her throat to catch his attention.
" Hey, you better keep your end of the deal!"
" Alright, I'll drive you to the nearest station and we can finally not see each other's faces."
Clare raised her brow.
" And what will you tell the glasses guy, I don't remember what's his name again– But what are you gonna tell him, again?"
Jaxon sighed and can't help but find it ridiculous that he is following this woman's whim.
" Right, I'll tell him you left with me and accompanied me all night so that he'll pay you. Happy?"
"Good. You better stay true to your words or I'll never– let me repeat myself, Never– give this wallet back to you! I'll toss it in the middle of the sea if you try to argue with me!"
Clare threatened him as she tightened her grip on the wallet using her chest.
His face looked sullen as he caught sight of her action and thought that the woman beside him was being very difficult and ruining his night.
Alas, since the wallet contained something very important to him, he couldn't risk it at all since he had seen how crazy the woman was. She might do as she says and really throw his precious wallet to the bottom of the sea.
Jaxon started the car engine and drove hoping that they would get to the nearest bus station so he could finally get rid of the troublesome woman sitting on the passenger seat of his car.
But who knows where that would be? Since they are technically, almost in the middle of nowhere…
*************
Waves crashed against the shore and only the moonlight illuminated the rock formations from a distance and as the waters hit ripples on the sea resurfaced.
Clare's eyes twinkled as she looked outside her window and observed the seaside that was especially mystical at night.
Lowering her window glass, what greeted her nose was the salty smell that brought a hint of nostalgia to her childhood years where she lived as carefree as she could.
She leaned forward almost peeking out of the window to have a wider view of the marvelous scenery.
"It would do me a favor if you lean out more but witnessing suicide is not my cup of tea."
Hearing that, Clare immediately withdrew and fixed herself. She rolled her eyes and cleared her throat from the embarrassment of being caught acting like an ignorant child.
"Well, if I jump out of your car, your precious wallet comes with me."
"Tsk."
Jaxon didn't reply any further and focused on driving.
A few minutes passed and a frown appeared on Jaxon's face.
On his hand, the steering wheel started to feel heavy and difficult to maneuver. With all his strength he tilted the wheel to one side and suddenly a loud flapping noise reverberated outside the vehicle.
Jaxon was thankful that he had just done the necessary just in time and parked it on the side of the road. However…
"What happened?"
Alarmed, Clare looked around and tried to locate where the sudden noise came from. Not knowing what was going on she felt worried when Jaxon did not say anything at all and just removed his seatbelt and swiftly exited the driver's seat.
A sense of fear enveloped her as outrageous thoughts started emerging from her mind.
Why did they make a sudden stop in the middle of the road?
Was she overreacting or was this the part where he reveals that he was a serial killer all along?!
Frozen on her seat, she waited for the worse that was about to come…
She closed her eyes and started praying but a few seconds later there was silence and no signs of Jaxon opening her and grabbing her for a possible homicide.
Puzzled, Clare wandered her eyes around and found Jaxon at the back of the car with a disgruntled face.
Rolling her window down, she peeked her head out the window and called for Jaxon's attention.
"What's the matter?"
Ignoring her, Jaxon kicked his tire and cursed.
Putting two and two together, Clare could not help but curse under her breath as well.
'Oh no…'
They were both screwed.
