Chapter 18.
Lysaria gazed into the sky, the shimmering green and blue were mesmerizing, She couldn't believe the scale of the barrier. Her heart skipped a beat when a beam of pitch dark shot into the sky smashing into the barrier, the beam of darkness appeared over the peaks to the south of her the three mountains jutting into the sky faintly outlines in the distance. Lysaria held her breath, light takes her the barrier was cracking from the darkness.
Lysaria felt a presence, a feeling of home, she felt the call of the essence, the feeling of power in the air. Gazing down at her hands, her eyes widened the dark aura radiated from her skin pushing outward. She willed it back but felt resistance, it wasn't her aura? it was simply dark essence gathering around her skin shrouding her like she was in the shade.
feeling disgusted she tries pushing it away to clear the vile darkness from her body but failed. Gravel crunched and grass rustled as someone approached behind her. She felt a hand on her shoulder, Thana hissed, "Ouch! Light take me Lysaria stop spreading your aura!" Lysaria turned to her friend who stares at the pillar of darkness in the distance. Thana was ringing out her hand as though she had touched something hot but didn't seem to upset.
After a minute the pillar of darkness disappeared leaving a long crack in the shimmering barrier, that began to shrink until nothing was left. Lysaria sighed with relief, she was happy the barrier was still strong for a moment she thought it would shatter. Lysaria wondered why the Arbitrator allowed the vile darkness to do what it wanted, She couldn't understand why something so evil was allowed to be free.
She reminded herself that the angels were the ones holding back the Demons, It was the job of the light to hold back the Demons, sighing she pushed back her thoughts of Heracy. It was the arbitrators' strength the angels used to hold back the darkness, by the Arbitrators' will the angels would continue to succeed.
Lysaria smiled at Thana, the light glimmering around her skin making her friend glow lightly. Lysaria said," I think the darkness is collecting around me, as the light collects around you." Thanas brow furrowed, she glanced over lysaria and nodded her head.
Thana said," We should start finding things to gain essence, The more essence we get the easier it will be to survive." Lysaria rubbed her chin in thought, She said," I think we should keep our distance from that pillar of darkness, The amount of power that beam used is terrifying." Thana said," that accursed Dark, that the pillar of darkness gave me the creeps."
Lysaria Turn towards The rocks behind her hiding both Dakar and Hectar, She said," what are those two doing?" Thana shrugged her shoulders, She said," let us look at the book your guardian gave you, we should learn something about this continent before we start looking for something dangerous to fight."
Lysaria stared at her for a moment, Why hadn't she thought of that, walking towards the Shelter of the rocky shelter she gave thana her best smile. Lysaria rounded the bend, Hectar was standing in the middle of the clearing channelling essence, the shimmering light swirling around him. Dakar sat in the grass next to him also channelling essence only he was channelling it towards Hectar.
Hectar opened his eyes and gestured at a rock, his essence shot to the rock slamming into it, Lysaria felt her jaw drop, the rock turned liquid, and folded towards them pulling over the clearing between the rocks covering 1 third of the clearing. Lysaria couldn't believe her eyes, She looks from the sweating Hectar to the drained Dakar.
Hectar said," Light take me that was hard, I need more essence to finish our roof. Lysaria stammered," what! how?" Hectar smiled his long brown hair swishing side to side, He said" It just feels right, I barely half to try to convince my essence to change things." Lysaria frowned, She said" you just channel your essence into the rock and will it to change shape?" Hectar nodded his head, He said," give it a try it's not hard, just requires a lot of essence for something as big as that rock."
Lysaria channelled Her essence feeling the darkness eager and ready to be used, She gestured towards a rock next to the new shelter its tall smooth surface an easy target. She focused her dark aura on the rock and surrounded it with essence, before willing the rock to change shape. The Rock turned hazy, covered in gloomy darkness, after a long moment it began to move, She smiled in excitement, after 5 seconds the rock began to crumble turning to sand falling apart under the power of her essence.
Sighing in dejection she frowned at the massive pile of sand, Lysaria drew her dark essence back pulling it into her feeling the rush as it returned. Hectar said," that didn't look very pleasant for the rock." Lysaria felt her face turn dark in embarrassment, She said," sorry I didn't mean to turn it to sand, I'm not sure if you can turn it back to stone."
Hectar slumped his head, grumbling, He said," not very likely." Dakar smiled widely showing off his bright handsome smile he said," well come here Thana, we will give him our essence so he can make our house." Lysaria stood back, her hands clenched trying not to look them in the eyes, Dakar said," what are you waiting for Lysaria, we need your massive pool of essence to make our wall."
She felt her spirits lift as she trudged forward, stopping beside her three friends. Thana looked at her and held her hand a few inches away clearly unwilling to touch her after the last time. Hectar said," alright get ready lysaria, melt that pile of sand, make it liquid." Lysaria did as he asked channelling her essence into the sand willing the essence to corrode the sand creating a blob that resembled a melted rock.
Well it wasn't flame but her essence could turn the sand molten in another way mixing all the sand together in bubbling darkness, Hectar waited as she pulled her essence back to herself the dark haze around the bubbling rock pulling back to her. All three of her friends channelled bright essence into the bubbling rock. the liquid rock shimmered brightly changing shape flowing like water combining with the first portion of the wall and roof. The smooth surface shimmered like glass dark and shiny at the same time sticking out clearly against the stone.
Dakar said," Light takes me." Hector said," what just happened." Thana turned her head quickly to Hectar she said," that's amazing how did you do that?." Thana hopped up and down smiling ear to ear, She said," Hectar shrugged his shoulders, he said," i think when Lysaria combined all of the sand together in a liquid it changed to glass when we changed it back to a solid."
Dakar pointed to the third and last rock, turning to lysaria excitedly He said," well what are you waiting for? turn that rock into sand so we can make the next wall." Lysaria smiled at the dark shimmering glass-like wall. She said," well that was unexpected." their shadowed forms, were covered halfway by the roof they had created so far. Lysaria smiled channelling her essence into the large rock, the rock crumbled and after a few seconds, the rock started to bubble melting in the dark haze of her essence.
Her eyes watered as the bubbling rocks fumed and hissed, pulling back her essence the rock began glowing with light, and shifted pulling over them covering the gap sealing them in and solidifying. Lysaira could see her friends in the pitch dark, they stumbled around before Dakar held up his hand creating a light becoming shrouded in light. Hectar said," well I didn't think about this, it shouldn't be too hard to create a door."
He walked over to the glasslike surface of the rock, the solid reflective substance smooth and reflective bouncing the light around. Lysaria walked across the room her eyes burning as they adjusted from dark to light, she said," I can create us a door, so we can leave. Thana said," wait!" her voice loud in the sealed room, she said," this will be perfect for us to hide if nothing gets in nothing can attack us.
lysaria glanced over Thana she seemed excited as she dug through her pack pulling out her thick book, She said," with enough essence, I can create a short-range temporal shift." Hector channelled essence his hands glowing he said," I need to create some small air holes to circulate air, if we forget we could all get stuck in here unable to leave as we die."
Thana paled, she said," I didn't even think of that, what a horrible way for us to die." 5 small beams of light dug into the wall digging through the rock, Lysaria wondered if it was working until she felt a slight shift in the air as after 1 minute of the essence tunnelling it reached the outside. Her hair swirled as a stiring breezed pushed in the small gap.
Thana shuffled to the glass wall, she grinned, and held out her hand glancing back and forth at the book and the wall, she created a large circle in the air, Lysaria felt the wind shifting as the circle of essence swirled From Thanas hand and folded in on itself multiple lines forming and falling in on each other until a small prick of light dug into the reflective stone. When the prick of light touched the stone it engraved an elaborate circle with swirling lines.
Lysaria let out a her breath, how had she done that? it was so complex Lysaria could hardly follow all of the lines. glancing from the stone carving she watched thana hold up her hand and begin channelling essence again, the golden light shrouding her athletic figure. Thana chanted," WHAT IS INSIDE IS OUT WHAT IS OUTSIDE IS IN, SHIFT!" The final word rang out, Lysaria felt a displacing of air as the woman standing in front of her disappeared.
