Chapter 17 - On the run with my new companion

After both Koku and Yoru had introduced themselves, they decided to get moving, and Koku took her with him. Several hours later, Yoru had been thinking about something, "Hey, umm Koku, are you a slave?" Yoru asked Koku as they were, by this point, near a river within the woods.

"Hmm? I'm not." Koku seemed to be doing something and quickly shushed her. Not wanting to upset Koku, Yoru stopped talking, and several seconds later, she'd see Koku holding his hand out; after a second longer, Koku used Void Arrow on something off in the distance.

Yoru was confused as she saw a dark purple arrow appear out of nowhere and fly towards an area dense with trees. After doing this, however, Koku looked at her and said she didn't have to be quiet anymore. Hearing this, Yoru stayed silent for a little bit longer as Koku began to speak. "No, I'm not a slave; I'm on the run for something else entirely. Anything else you want to know?" Koku asked Yoru, who was by this point very curious as to why he was on the run and from who.

But before she could ask anything else, she smelled blood off into the distance. "Looks like your nose is sharp," Koku complimented her, "Figured you haven't eaten, so let's take a break while we still can, okay?" Koku smiled at her as they walked over to where the blood was coming from, and when they got there, Yoru had seen a clean hole through a boar.

After admiring Koku, her mouth began to water with hunger, and her stomach growled. Koku heard it and created an aura sword so small you could call it an aura knife. He then began to cut into it. "Let's get this hide (skin) off first; then we'll cut the parts of the meat we need and eat up after cooking it," Koku did just as he said.

Although while doing this, Koku noticed Yoru looking pretty guilty since he was doing all of the work; Koku sighed mentally and asked if she could clean the hide near the river while he cut the boar's meat up into pieces, then began cooking it.

Koku made sure to pay attention to Yoru as the food was getting done, and about 20 minutes after, Koku could see her rushing to get the hide cleaned up. After that, she rushed over to the fire Koku had created to cook the boar, and when she got there, Koku chuckled to himself, "you're very desperate, aren't you?" Hearing Koku chuckle again after saying that, she pouted, "I haven't eaten in three days. Of course, I'll be hungry! HMPH," Yoru's response made Koku smile, and he gave her a few small pieces of meat.

"Here, eat up. Don't worry; you can have more, but try to eat in small amounts, since you haven't eaten in a while." After this, she gobbled up the meat practically in an instant. Koku barely even pressed his teeth down on the meat as she was asking for seconds; cutting a few more pieces, Koku made sure she and himself ate well.

So after 2 hours passed, the boar was completely gone, and Koku had stopped eating after he got halfway filled up for reasons he explained to Yoru. "It's so that if I have to fight, my stomach won't get in the way of anything. It would be bad to throw up during a fight or be slower, no?" Hearing Koku's reasoning for not eating till being full, she was genuinely impressed; although this didn't stop her from eating till being full.

Later that day as they rested near the river. They stocked up on a little bit of water, and once again began their travels. Not knowing where they were, both Koku and Yoru found themselves lost and walking randomly.

Deep in the woods also didn't help much at all, and since they had been within a forest known for its size and unique ability to change climates quickly. The forest itself didn't actually have an ability like that, however… it seemed that way to all who passed by this place.

However, this forest was known as the Forest of a Thousand Mysteries. The reason was that all kinds of things could be found here. It was a rather strange forest since it's a part of Sylvanterra, a country-sized territory which wasn't claimed by any other countries for its elusive nature to bring quite a number of problems.

Sylvanterra's a territory that's the size of a country like Paladonia; the difference is that in Paladonia, people can settle and live there, as to where in Sylvanterra you couldn't. The reasons were fairly simple, and it's because many things like golems and potential things stronger than the many kinds of golems here are typically things of little intelligence that tend to overwhelm you in large numbers. Apart from this, you may find normal monsters such as goblins, feral magic wolves, and other creatures such as monsters that possess no intelligence.

But does this keep people away from this place? No. the reason for that is that lots of treasure can be found here. From things such as artifacts to ancient war devices that usually end up causing devastating damage to everything have been and can be found here with enough time and persistence. Regardless of the treasure, getting lost here is practically screaming for death.. especially during nighttime since monsters in a way flood the lands in this territory.

But even more unique is the fact that Sylvanterra stretches into a section of Paladonia and isn't owned by Paladonia. But these two young runaways wandered around aimlessly as they're being hunted down slowly but surely.

Later that day, about 2 hours since they had been wandering around, it began to rain slightly and turned into heavy rain within 5 minutes. Koku and Yoru couldn't see anything, and it was beginning to get dark out. Not knowing what they might find if they stay out during the night, they decided to find some shelter. And after 20 minutes of being out in the heavy rain, Koku was able to find a cave entrance protruding out of the ground a little bit. "It's just enough so that the water starts to rise; it won't trap us in there…" Koku thought as they went in getting away from the rain.

But as they entered, the walls in the cave looked to have some sorts of old writing that he could barely read, yet Yoru couldn't even see. "Hmmm, if she can't even see them, this might be related too…" Koku held the thought as he heard Yoru sneeze. However… before he let the idea go, he felt that there was something further down the cave they should go see after drying up and warming up.

"Cold?" Koku asked Yoru as he chuckled, "Let me get a small fire started so we can warm up." After this. Koku made the fire and sat down next to Yoru and began to converse with her. "Hey Yoru, may I ask you… do you have…"
