Chapter 1 - THE DARKNESS

As I fall asleep there are no thoughts in my brain.

The only sound being heard is rain.

Having no recognition of what happened today.

I look outside and see the trees that once were swaying.

I close my eyes, drowning in dormancy.

Sleep has overtaken my body.

As I fall deeper into this paralysis, dreams appear.

Colors only, bright colors, but there's something hiding in the dark.

Pink, popping up first.

It speaks to me, with love, and carefulness.

It's radiating joy, happiness, and compassion.

Purple is next.

It speaks to me, carefully, making sure to choose the right words.

It's radiating forgiveness, something that I don't often have.

Blue, is next.

It speaks to me with sadness, showing fearfulness.

It's radiating sorrow, mourning the loss of something.

Yellow is next.

Forming a circle in the middle of everything.

It speaks to me with, clarity, and optimism.

It's radiating joy, wisdom, and intellect.

Then it all changes, the darkness starts to seep through all the other colors.

I ask, 'How did you withstand the comfort of others?'

It responds with smoke, thick and black.

I start cowering back, until I hit something.

The smoke has formed a barrier, trapping me.

As the smoke starts nearing the circle, it gains possession.

It speaks to me with, anger, irascibility, and wrongfulness.

It's radiates sadness, being trapped, and depression.

The darkness, takes more of the color, turning it into smoke.

It wraps itself around me, engulfing me in sadness, and anger.

Tears start forming, threatening to fall.

I scream for help, only for it to strengthen its hold on me.

I can hear others screaming in the background, it's the colors.

Wanting to escape this mutiny.

Tears pour down my face, leaving it red, with blotches.

I shake with fear, only for it to take my hands in its hold.

Pain courses through my body.

The darkness is taking over.

I feel dizzy now, the darkness is in my head.

Thoughts start pouring out, pressure builds on me.

My head, pounding.

Voices screaming at me.

It hurts, I taste blood.

It's torturing me.

Feeding of my fear.

I try my hardest to not let it in.

The darkness soars through me, until it hits my heart.

A loud heart-wrenching scream leaves my throat.

The pain getting too hard to bear.

My throat hurts from screaming.

My body going numb.

My head pounding.

The colors are now possessed by the darkness.

Leaving the circle empty.

Demons surround me.

The darkness forming into figures.

The demons walk closer.

One stands in front me and reaches out.

It takes a hold of my neck.

I'm drowning in sadness.

I can feel myself becoming possessed.

Having thoughts I've never had.

Feeling things I've never felt.

Hearing things I've never heard.

And most importantly.

Seeing thing I've never seen.

The darkness lets go, after the demon possessed me.

I start seeing black dots appear in my vision.

The demon is swarming around in my head.

Screaming at me.

Voices all around me, even though there's no one.

I feel a gut-wrenching pain in my chest.

Falling to the floor, I hold my head.

I feel myself getting drowsy.

Like a sleep spell was cast on me.

I lay down with my head in my hands.

Praying that I'm not dying.

Suddenly, I see a light peeking through from my hands.

I cautiously remove my hands from over my eyes.

There's a white light radiating from the ground.

I slowly get up, walking towards the light.

I still feel the demon in my head, threatening me to not go towards the light.

As I walk closer, I see a figure.

Standing there, completely black.

No face.

No arms.

No legs.

But a terrifying laughter.

He laughs at me.

I'm not in the right mindset.

I feel the tears threatening to fall once more.

He whispers in my ear.

I can't quite make out what he says.

But he finishes and the white light is gone.

I still hear the laughter.

Or maybe it's the demon.

My arms start to burn, as if I touched a hot pan.

My neck starts to burn as if I got a terrible sunburn.

I slowly roll up the sleeves of my sweater.

And there are handprints on my arms.

He touched me when he disappeared.

The burning on my neck, feels like I was choked.

It feels like rope burns.

Maybe a noose.

But there is no rope around.

I feel something drip down my face.

I was thinking tears, but when it dripped on my arm I knew something was wrong.

The tears have turned into blood.

The voice in my head getting louder.

The handprints burning even more.

My back starts to ache as if I was being whipped.

I was being abused by an unknown entity.

Something then pushed me, causing my body to fall.

Landing on my arms, a scream comes from my throat.

It's like there's lava pouring on them.

My throat starts closing in, as if the noose is getting tighter.

I can't breathe.

I feel myself getting hotter and hotter.

My skin losing its color.

It has turned to a sickly white color.

As if I'm a ghost.

Begging for someone to help me.

I feel a burning sensation on my throat, not like the choking.

As if my blood is turning into lava, growing hotter every second.

I tried to stand up, but felt pressure on my legs.

Someone is holding my down.

Something covers my face, pressing down hardly.

I can't breathe.

I'm suffocating.

My heart beat starts to slow.

My hearing starts to go.

Along with my life.

I wake up.

Breathing heavily.

My heart beat is instantaneous.

My throat burning.

My arms no longer hurt.

My neck is still burning.

Tears trickle down my face.

I lay down face first, sobbing into the mattress.

The mattress smells like my dream.

It smells like the smoke.

It has a musty smell, almost like an old house.

I start breathing heavily.

My anxiety spiking.

Panic coursing through my body.

I feel some sort of attack.

Whether it be out of panic, or anxiety.

I curl up in my bed.

Back against the headboard.

Hand on my chest.

I try breathing with the sound of the cars passing by.

Slowly, but thoroughly.

My brain starts to shut down again.

The voices start back up again.

But this time, they're soft.

Careful, honest, and intelligent.

It seems as if the demon, has switched places with an angel.

I have two faces.

The demons the one I'm not.

Switching back and forth.

Like the angel on me shoulder, and the demon on the other.

But it's always the demon.

It's changed now.

I feel happy.

It calms me down.

Soothing me with a gentle hum.

The rain starts getting heavier.

Leading me into a deep sleep.

There's always light in dark situations, but this might not be for me.

Someone else should have it.

Someone else who is worth more.

Someone else who cares.

Someone else who's happy.

Someone who's not me.

That night, the nightmare happens again.

The demon disguised itself as the angel.

I was right.

It's always the demon.

Never the angel.

I know the nightmare will continue in the future.

No matter what I do.

It'll always be there.

Until the day I die.
