Snip! I stared in mesmerized silence as Cari's favorite hairdresser removed eighteen inches of hair in one fell swoop. The plaited ponytail would be making its way to the local Wigs for Kids donation center and hopefully giving someone better memories with it than I ever had. The mass of hair was set aside while he continued to snip away more and more. With every closing of Esteban's scissors, I felt Brody's hold on me gradually but steadily slipping.
Snip! That lock I dedicated to the first time he called me stupid.
Snip, for when he accused me of going braless, just to attract attention.
One after the other until the last bit was gone and I thought: Goodbye, Jenny!
My initial reaction when he finished drying and styling my much darker hair was an indescribable level of peace. I half-expected it to be weird seeing me looking so different, but it wasn't. More like it felt exactly right because now that I see me with this color, I have no doubt that is who I was always meant to be.
