The sun shone through the windows and illuminated a room. The bulge in the bed started moving and a soft groan could be heard. Suddenly, the alarm blared on the bedside table making Clover groan in annoyance. Today was a very important day because one student is going to been chosen to be trained by the Guard.
The Guard was the most prominent defense squad of the academy. They were composed of one student from each faction: Warrior, assassin, Hunter, Mage, and guardian. They were the best and went on very important and dangerous missions.
All the students were excited and wanted to be chosen, all except for one, Clover Reed.
She's twenty now and legally an adult, but her dad still treats her like a child. Clover didn't mind at first, but when the other students started to make comments and the name-calling started to hold weight, she couldn't even pass in the halls without people throwing all kinds of stares at her, and she felt even smaller.
She nevertheless mustered the courage to get out of the comfort of her bed and headed towards the shower. Her room was in the headmaster's quarters so she had a bathroom of her own. Her bedroom was normal-sized with turquoise painted walls. she grew flowers all around the room and around the windows which brought a sweet natural fragrance she so loved to smell. When she finished her shower, she grabbed a cute green floral dress and put it on. She didn't like her legs on display because some students made comments about them, so she put on a pair of black leggings under her dress to accommodate.
She then pulled her hair up in a ponytail and plucked a Lilly to put in her hair. She always had a flower in her hair because her dad usually did when she was a little girl, the thought brought a smile to her face and she made a plan to visit her dad during the day, she would bake him muffins to go with his lunch.
When she was ready, she whispered a small goodbye to her plants and closed the door behind her. She had grown to know every person who worked at the academy from teachers to maidens, and they were all sweet to her. she greeted them as she walked towards the dining hall for breakfast.
"Good morning, Clover! Had a good night?" Agatha, one of her favorite persons greeted her at the entrance. Agatha was a petite woman with shoulder length jet black hair and pale skin, she was always wearing white saying it made her look the med part. Agatha had always taken care of Clover like a mother would and Clover love her like so.
Since she couldn't talk, she just nodded in response. "Great, are you ready for today?" Agatha chirped, she seemed excited every time it happened. Three years ago, Liam Gunderson got chosen and she was ecstatic. Truth is Clover liked Liam, but he never laid eyes on her, but rather other, cooler girls. After all, nobody wanted a fragile flower because, in this world, flowers always get crushed, or at least that's what Vanessa Bloom told her.
Vanessa Bloom was another mage, and supposedly the most talented. She never stopped gushing about being chosen to join the guard and then marry Liam Gunderson and have his babies. Truth be told she was good, but her ego got the best of her sometimes and she never failed to mention how weak Clover was and how useless her attunement to plants was.
Clover was special, but she also knew she wasn't special enough to be chosen. In order to be chosen, one had to be the strongest, the smartest, and the most emotionally stable, and Clover was none of those. with a sigh, she signed to Ahatha "I don't think I'm fit to be chosen, it's probably going to be someone better than me". v
"Oh don't say that" Agatha sighed with a frown, which didn't match her facial features " You never know what will happen, so dont sell yourself short". Agatha always knew the right thing to say, but Clover had already made peace with the idea and she was fine with not being chosen.
When she entered the dining room, every eyes turned to look at her with different expression written in all of them except for the only person who saw her pass the comments and rumors, her best friend Hunk. Hunk was a tall and bulky guy. He had brown wavy hair that was always messy, but somehow went well with him. He didn't talk much, in fact he didn't pay anyone no mind and Clover was happy he held no judgements unlike the others. She had known Hunk since they were kids, she was twelve and hunk was fifteen, He had come and sat next to her in the dining room and since then, they developped a friendship.
The general monitor ringed and the voice of her dad, the headmaster, could be heard in an announcement. "All students please report to the central hall, time for the choosing" Then after a few second her continued " Come on Huddle up lazy butts" and with that everyone made their way out towards the central hall. one her way there, Clover was suddenly pushed and fell on the ground. She didn't hurt herself but she could hear the snikkers and someone saying 'whatch where you're going princess' and more laughter.
Hunk immediately helped her up and muttered 'idiots' under his breath, then they followed until they reached the hall. The general hall was massive and beautifully decorated, from roman pillars to the mural at the ceiling. in the center was another smaller pillar with a clear crystal at the center. Each faction had a specific spot in the room, so the students grouped according to their faction. She bid her goodbye to Hunk and joined the mage's spot while he went to the Guardian spot. On the stage, the headmaster tapped on the microphone to get the students' attention. "Hello to all of you students, I hope you are doing well today because it's a very exciting time" the students started to cheer and whistle. " now I know you all worked very hard for this moment and no matter who is chosen deserves the merit, so without further a due, let's begin"
The head mage made her way towards the crystal. She was in her fourties with long brown hair and chocolate skin that seem to glow in the light. she reached her hand over the crystal and quietly chanted some words. after a few moments, the crystal came to life and radiated a soft yellow glow, then it hovered around and towards the students. It came near the warriors, but continued over to the Guardians, then the hunters and the assassins, but it only stopped when it reached the mages. the girl and guys were excited because a mage was to be chosen and the anticipation was heavy.
Clover looked a the crystal the whole time it hovered over them, she was also anxcious of who was to be chosen, but what she didn't expect was for the crystal to come and rest itself in the palm of her hands.
