Earlier that morning, Maria woke up feeling very energetic. She washed her face and made herself breakfast. She had never felt as free in her entire life as she was right now.
It's been a while since she played Death Race and she was certain that she had dropped out of the top three. She just hadn't had the time to play.
Recently, she had been busy with running the café without the shadow of his overbearing brother looming all over her. It was a satisfying feeling to be free of that intoxicating yet dangerous environment. She felt free and more alive than she had ever felt in years.
That plus the fact that their relationship became complicated made her reluctant to want to go back there and see him. She was better off on her own anyway.
