Chef?! How do we play that? Walter was a bit confused about the scope of the game.
"Tell you what? If we play chef, we get to visit the park today!"
Bernadette added knowing that he would surely like that.
"Let's play... Uhm...how do we play chef?"
"We cook whatever we like. Afterwards we eat the whole thing!" Bernadette explained. She wasn't sure if there was such a game but she went with whatever came to mind.
"What should we cook, mom?"
Bernadette thought for a bit before smiling broadly, "anything that comes to mind!"
They rushed to the kitchen excitedly and washed their hands. They selected their ingredients and got down to work.
Walter wanted to make chicken soup. He sliced the onions, the green peppers, red peppers...
Ginger should go in right?
Then garlic....then carrots...then tomatoes right?
He shrugged and packed all the chopped ingredients into the pot of steaming chicken breast.
After cutting the chicken for little Walter, Bernadette placed all her ingredients on the table.
She wasn't sure what to make.
Stir fried noodles? Beef stew?
Let's do the simplest, stir fried noodles!
Noodles....eggs....onions...pep...
Where're the peppers?
Bernadette was alarmed when she discovered that Walter had used up all the pepper.
This sure will become a 'pepper soup' she sighed.
Have to manage without fresh pepper; she went for some hot spices. Let's make this dish a bit awkward.
Bernadette began throwing in ingredients she didn't even need for the stir fried noodles.
She rubbed her hands and looked at her noodles which now had a yellowish- green colour and weird aroma.
"Hmmm! Mom can I try?" Walter was all excited. He took a spoon and ate some of the noodles.
"They taste so delicious! You're the best mom!" Bernadette felt all warm when she was praised for the meal. It was actually the joy of being called Mom that she liked. As for her food, she was sure that Walter was bootlicking her so he would be taken to the park. She really felt like a "mom".
....
Walking down the street along the park, Bernadette felt like baring her tongue so as to catch some fresh air. Her face was all red, and her tongue itched. The pepper was just too much.
In order not to make Walter feel bad, she had finished half a bowl of the chicken soup.it was so hot that she had to drink a cup of cold water from the refrigerator, unfortunately, it didn't work. Now she was suffering inside.
They walked along the park and played some fun games. They found an area with lots of sands where they built sand castles and other sand art work.
After which, they played Chase.
Bernadette bought ice cream and candies too.
They found a park bench and sat there to lick their ice creams.
"Mom? Can we have more? Pleeeaase!" Walter asked and Bernadette could have sworn she saw stars sparkling in his eyes, how could she refuse such a cute little guy?
"Okay. But don't eat too much okay?" She ruffled his hair.
After buying and eating more ice creams, they decided to end their fun outing. Walter was a little unhappy when they wanted to leave the park but couldn't also be disobedient.
Mom said never to be disobedient!
He followed her back to the house anticipating their next games!
Today, they were going to play till late at night.
The best part about it; it was a Saturday, no school!
I hope Tracy stays out longer so me and mommy will play many games! The little boy wished silently as he skipped alongside Bernadette.
Soon, they arrived at the house which had an exquisite view; well suited for a rich business man.
Too bad....
Bernadette sighed and led Walter in.
