Bryan kept tapping his laptop continuously without doing anything in particular. He just tapped random keys and moved the cursor around. This was a nice way to fight boredom.
He was the only one here who had nothing to do and had to sit around and watch people move about.
He could've stayed at the hotel or ride around the city to have some fun but this wasn't an option either. He had done most of those things over the past few days and didn't want to repeat them again.
He had tea at the coffee section where he met Jason again and unlike the last time, he was much more cheerful.
After drinking tea, he had handed the action figure he promised to Bernadette who had resumed work today. He had gone through a lot of trouble getting that action figure.
"Remind me never to say things before thinking…" he tapped the Space button on his computer and sighed.
He was expecting feedback from Regina today regarding the case of Gael Hanson. She had encountered some problems which made her to pause her tasks and had promised that she would hand in full details of what she was able to retrieve.
Bryan had confidence that whatever she found would be a huge clue.
Although Gael was smart enough to cause series of events which aided his disappearance, Bryan still found him to be a 'not so smart' maniac.
He was careless in a way and had exposed all his tracks.
Why would he hack the security footages yet let his neighbours see him moving out, it didn't make sense at all.
Whatever his problem was, Bryan was going to find out.
….
At eleven o'clock, a car drove into the parking lot of the station. A well-dressed man stepped out of the car and walked into the building.
He exuded an aura of dominance with every step he took and didn't spare anyone a glance as he made his way in.
It was none other than the rich CEO, Mr Lee.
He was here for a very important mission which was to hire bodyguards for his family.
He was shown to the chief's office.
"Good day Mr Lee. How may I help you?" Bruce put down the files he was handling and looked at the man in front of him whose presence alone spelt out the word 'arrogance'.
He was a famous CEO in Haston city and hence, Bruce recognised him immediately. This police chief wasn't moved by the man's presence, if anything it made him feel like slapping the silly grin off his face!
"I'm here for some important business." Mr Lee took a seat and adjusted his tie.
"What business?" Bruce asked with a little surprise in his voice, what sort business was he here for?
"First, I need you to bring in detective Bryan." Mr Lee requested.
Bruce sighed and made a call asking Bryan to come to his office. He was curious what kind of business could bring the man to the police station.
It didn't take long for Bryan to arrive at the office.
"Have a seat." Bruce pointed at the extra chair which beside Mr Lee's.
"I prefer standing." Bryan replied and maintained his stoic expression.
Bruce shook his head in amusement. He couldn't help but compare the two men in front of him.
Which one was more pompous?
"Very well, then. Mr Lee, can you tell me why you're here?" Bruce turned to the CEO who seemed like an unmovable mountain. This sitting posture was filled with so much arrogance, Bruce thought.
"You're the famous detective of Wakeville, pleasure to finally meet you."
Bryan didn't know how to respond and ended up staring at the man's outstretched hands as he waited for a handshake.
"I guess I am." Bryan shook his hand after some hesitation. Something wasn't right, why would this man specifically request him to be here? He even knows about me.
"What sort of business are you here for?" Bruce probed again.
Mr Lee sighed deeply and began, "I want bodyguards."
Bruce and Bryan exchanged looks. He wanted bodyguards at a police station?
"Sorry, we don't give such services." Bruce said plainly.
"I know you don't offer such services but I really need a few people here to provide some security for my family, at least for a week." Mr Lee glanced at Bryan while speaking as if asking him to probe for more details.
"You have over thirty security personnel working at your home, why would you need the police to provide you with extra security?" Bruce couldn't understand the man's motives.
Bryan on the other hand believed that he was among those people who were fond of making abnormal choices.
"I have a lot of bodyguards but that's not enough. Recently I keep having this feeling that something bad will happen to my family and I don't want to take my chances.
"The police are my only hope and I can feel safe with them watching over my children."
Bryan, who was only partially listening to the conversation, snapped back to his senses.
"You feel like something bad will happen to you?" Bryan asked again, his mind was churning non-stop.
Mr Lee smiled inwardly, just like the famous detective.
"Yes, I feel like someone is monitoring us and waiting for us to step out."
Bryan felt blood rush to his head. Isn't this the trademark of 'the exorcist'?
This was totally unexpected and it came right out of nowhere.
Bryan glanced at the man again with obvious excitement; this could be just the move that could lead the police to the serial murderer.
"When did you start having these feelings?" Bryan asked. Usually the exorcist took action on the third day of monitoring his victims.
"Yesterday." Mr Lee replied.
Bryan thought about it for a while. That meant he still had two days left.
Wait…
Thoughts flashed into Bryan's mind and quelled the excitement he was feeling.
Why was he being so careless? An investigator never rushes into a case blindly!
Certain things about the man rang alarm bells in his head.
Why did he request for him? Does he plan on asking me to take the case or be his bodyguard?
Why did he come to the police in the first place when he had many trusted bodyguards?
Something wasn't right….
