Hazel's POV
It was dark, very dark.
As I took a step forward, light began to flow from underneath my bare feet, I felt like I was walking on clouds.
In front of me, I saw a door. I reached out to open it but before I could push, it opened by itself. Before I could process what happened, someone took my hand and pulled me, we started running.
Only when my breath became even, could I sense the heat, I looked around. Fire, fire everywhere. "They're coming!" said a husky anonymous voice.
"I know this isn't the best time or place," he said "but I need you to know tha-" a piece of something fell, it must've been burned down by the flames.
I looked up, my eyes that were blurry from the tears that formed because of the smoke, adjusted to the dimness and that's when I noticed, there was no ceiling, pitch-black night sky with twinkling stars, a piece of the sky had fallen.
I searched for the mysterious person who wanted to tell me something. I looked around. He was gone. But that wasn't what surprised me.
Everything was gone, the flames, the smoke, everything. It was just me. That's when a blaring sound echoed in the empty space. It started raining and all of a sudden, a hand covered my mouth and before I knew it, I woke up.
My head was pounding and at that moment, my biggest enemy was my alarm clock. I kept trying to off it but it just wouldn't budge! So, I did the most reasonable thing to do.
I threw it to the other side of the room.
BAM!
I think it broke.
The alarm blared once again, like a siren it rings in the air rapidly.
"ughh," I pulled the covers on top of my head.
The annoying buzz of the alarm continues.
"Oh my goodness! I have school today," I groaned.
Today was my first day at my new school. I'm not that nervous because this is my 8th time moving schools in 10 years excluding kindergarten.
I'm in the 11th grade and things just don't seem to get easier, ever. I do get used to everything though. I just have to stick to my 3 main rules. What are they you ask?
1. Do not make close friends.
2. Keep a low profile.
3. Get good grades.
That's my secret of life, well... Kinda. I usually don't follow them. Like who follows rules? Okay, I do sometimes...
I finally got out of bed, checked the time in my phone, 6:47 am. School starts at 8, I'm going to have to leave by 7:30 am since I have to walk.
I planned to take a quick shower but you must have guessed how that went, I came out of the bath after, I don't know how long, even though I wanted to stay for more time.
Since my room had an attached bathroom I got out with my robe and went and laid there in my bed for a while. Don't judge me! And don't tell me you haven't done that before.
I got dressed quickly after that, even though my hair was wet. I don't like moving when my hair was wet, so I blowdried my hair only a bit but most of the time I was directing the cool air on my face (I'm childish I know). I looked at myself in the mirror.
It wasn't much I would say, a pair of black skinny jeans with a white off-shoulder crop top which my aunt bought for me, usually I wouldn't wear crop tops but my aunt recently... passed. I kept this as a memory of her.
I applied a small amount of eyeliner and a little homemade mascara. I wore my waterproof swatch watch which I got for my 7th birthday, my sapphire ring which my dad bought me and my lucky amethyst pendant necklace which I sometimes use as a bracelet.
I looked at my appearance one more time and understood what I was missing.
I grabbed my favourite black hoodie which my dad said that my mom got for me for my 14th birthday. I have no idea where my mom is. I remember that they got separated when I was 6. My mom visits maybe twice in a year to see me but she would never tell me about her life or where she's staying or anything. Every year on my birthday, my dad brings me home a gift that she gave. Sometimes she even visits and we have dinner together.
I went out of my room and walked as softly as I could without making a noise. No, I don't have a baby sibling or anything. It's just that Lauren, AKA my stepmom, usually comes home in the morning from someone's house. It's usually different every night. Sometimes, like yesterday, she came back at 3 am or something from a party, drunk.
So I don't want her to simply throw things at me or hurt me, I didn't have time for that anyway.
Luckily, she didn't wake up. I went down the stairway, took my backpack and contemplated whether I should grab a granola bar before I leave.
I decided to just eat a Kit Kat or something.
I left in a hurry. Here goes nothing...
I used my phone navigation and started walking to Maplewood Sangster High. It was just a mile away, an 18-minute walk. As I was walking, I just closed my eyes so that I could actually feel the cool breeze. I wanted to enjoy the walk to school at least, before all the chaos errupts.
"Hey!!" Someone said from behind me.
