As the father-daughter bicker got more extreme, Ye Yang found the time to calm down his nerves. With both of them being consumed by fury, the argument wasn't going anywhere.
Seemingly used to such an environment, Huang Xudong found a way to make them stop by pouring both of them a glass of water each.
"Dad, Sis, stop arguing so much," Huang Xudong advised with a hint of plea in his voice as the two gulped down the water.
After taking a gulp of water, Huang Guohua shot a glare at Huang Ruobing. He proceeded to shift his crosshairs over to Ye Yang who had been watching the whole time. "She's been arguing with me for your sake all this while and you've done nothing but keep silent. What kind of man are you?"
No matter how dissatisfied Huang Guohua was with his daughter, the person he was most prejudiced against was really Ye Yang.
Ye Yang cocked up an eyebrow and said, "Since Mr. Huang would like to speak to me, I'll be direct with you."
He showed no hesitation and quickly said to Huang Ruobing in a comforting tone, "Ruobing, wait for me outside with Xudong. I'd like to talk to your father in private."
Naturally, Huang Ruobing was worried about this. This was in spite of the fact that she had yet to develop any real affection for Ye Yang, the man who had been through a car crash in the process of helping her solve a problem. She knew just how her father would behave.
She hesitated, clearly disagreeing with Ye Yang's suggestion. "Is there something we shouldn't hear? If you insist, Xudong can leave but I'm staying."
Seeing how his daughter was siding with an outsider, Huang Guohua shot a disdainful glare at Huang Ruobing.
However, Ye Yang stood his ground. "Believe me, there won't be any problems."
Although Huang Ruobing knew that both men had something to talk about, she hoped she could stay. If Ye Yang happened to say something that was taboo to Huang Guohua, she could help them clear up any misunderstandings.
"What can I do to a junior?" Huang Guohua was aware of his daughter's suspicions and was also slightly peeved by it. Huang Ruobing clearly didn't trust his personality.
Huang Ruobing hesitated one last time before leaving the room with Huang Xudong. Today, Ye Yang had just demonstrated to her how capable he really was, so she had faith that Ye Yang would help provide a solution to reconcile their relations.
When only two of them were left in the private room, Huang Guohua put on a serious face and asked, "What did you want to talk to me about?"
Huang Guohua wasn't an old-fashioned man. From the moment he entered, he had been observing the three young people. Huang Guohua knew his daughter well. All her life, Huang Ruobing had always been quite headstrong.
But earlier, among the trio, it was clear that Ye Yang was the most dominant figure here. This came as a great surprise for Huang Guohua because he was no stranger to his daughter's personality.
Both his son and daughter had a deep sense of respect for Ye Yang. Huang Ruobing's case could be somehow explained by love, but Huang Xudong? He couldn't think of anything that would explain his attitude towards Ye Yang.
This was proof that Ye Yang had an excellent side to him. And Huang Guohua was very forgiving of this sort of people.
Ye Yang flashed the old man a brief smile. "I can't have uncle think that I'm a wretched country-bumpkin, can I?"
Huang Guohua smirked. "Didn't you address me as Mr. Huang earlier?"
"If Uncle is acknowledging me as a junior, I have to call you 'uncle'." Ye Yang was currently seizing an opportunity. When he heard how Huang Guohua was calling him a junior, the word 'uncle' flowed naturally from his lips.
At this, Huang Guohua's expression darkened slightly. "Then, for you, is there a difference between 'mister' and 'uncle'?"
Huang Guohuo's question was a form of probing.
And how could Ye Yang not tell that he was being tested? However, he paid it no heed. "An elder has his own way of referring to others and the same goes for a junior."
Huang Guohua finally began studying the young man before him seriously. Although Ye Yang hadn't said anything useful yet, this art of beating around the bush was quite impressive in Huang Guohua's opinion.
Moreover, Ye Yang was meeting Huang Guohua's gaze directly. His tone wasn't too meek but instead, it carried great confidence.
Ye Yang leisurely poured Huang Guohua another glass of water and said, "You've been unwell recently so it's better if you avoid smoking and eating spicy food."
Huang Guohua stared deeply at Ye Yang. In recent years, Huang Guohua's health had been rather poor, but this was something Huang Ruobing and Huang Xudong wasn't exactly aware of.
Moreover, for the sake of maintaining his health, Huang Guohua rarely ate spicy food with others despite it being one of his major favorites. And not many people knew of this either because, during banquets and dinners, spicy food was rarely served.
It was clear that Ye Yang didn't hear this from Huang Ruobing, so that could only mean that Ye Yang obtained this information through his own channels.
As a patriarch of an elite family, having poor health would give many people an excuse to take action and the consequences would be dreadful. Hence, such matters were usually well-guarded secrets.
"How did you know?"
"I have my own ways." Ye Yang smiled sheepishly. It was clear that Huang Guohua was very much concerned about his health. "Rather than this, I'd actually like to talk to you about Huang Xudong."
"What's wrong with Xudong?" Staring at Ye Yang, Huang Guohua realized how he hadn't actually been paying attention to his children as of late.
Ye Yang smiled faintly before telling Huang Guohua about the ordeal that Huang Xudong just got through. Huang Guohua seemed astonished as he never thought that his son would dare to have such nerve.
However, if the worst really happened, even Huang Guohua had no way to help his son make it out of the situation unscathed. And this was extremely concerning.
Ye Yang was grinning slightly as he said, "I'm telling Uncle about this because I want to prove my worth to you."
Huang Guohua was silent for a moment. Finally, he decided to compromise.
