Chapter 5 - Cursed

Shanice

"You have missing members?" Shanice asked.

"Yes seven, all females." He answered with a growl.

Shanice had to admit she was having a very hard time focusing on her interrogation. Everything in her was urging her to untie him. To go to him and.....kiss him. Goddess be damned. Of all the times for her fucking mate to show up. There was a part of her that had always hoped to find him. To know the bond she had seen with her parents when she was younger.

However, it was also what she dreaded the most. Before her parents had died, when the curse was still fresh, her parents had warned her that the possibility of finding her mate was slim and that if they were ever to find their mate, he would most likely meet with death early. The curse had come about because of a witch who was in love with their father. Her name was Allison, and she had been with their father for years before he met their mother. They had recognized the bond, and he had tried to break it off smoothly with Allison. However, the witch would have none of that. She had tried everything she could to stop their mating. In the end, she cursed the next three generations of their bloodlines. She has stated they would never know the joy of the mate bond, and if they did, death would come quickly.

She blinked away the memory of her mother's story. The witch had not stopped there. She had been the one to help the hunters the night her parents were killed. Shanice had looked into her purple eyes and saw pure evil. She had run then, but if their paths ever crossed again, she would cut her up into tiny pieces, after extensive torture, of course. That bitch had it coming on so many levels.

Shanice was puzzled how her wolf even recognized her mate. Maybe the curse had died down over the years. However, she would not risk his life just to mate with him. Until she figured out what was happening to her pack mates and what the hell was going on with this curse, her mate would have to take a backseat. Still, her mind, body, and wolf were on different pages. Her wolf urging her to seek his warmth, her body growing warm, and her mind saying stay focused, she is an Alpha.

"When did this start?" Shanice asked, sitting in the chair before him.

"About a month ago. The first time it was four members, then today I came home from Atlanta to find out three more women were missing." He sighed, "I lost it. I shifted and went to try to find a trail, something we could not find after the first disappearances. I was angry and more determined this time. I let my wolf guide me. We pounced on the first unfamiliar scent and ended up in your territory." Reggie felt his wolf surge forward, remembering the beast and the fear that had gripped him.

"I hate to break it to you Alphas," he started, as his eyes changed to a wolf. "But there is something lurking in your woods, a prehistoric beast or something, also lots of magic, and something just not right."

Raven leaned in, over Shanice's shoulder and whispered menacingly, "Was the big bad Alpha afraid of Beast?"

"That thing has a name?" he gasped out.

"Asia, cut his ropes," Shanice heard herself say, still fighting that urge. She refused to be sappy in front of her sisters, but the relief she felt was so refreshing. She felt like she could breathe and possibly spend some time with this new mate. "Imani, get him a chair. Sister, I'm afraid torture is out of the question. I think I like him as he is."

Reggie almost smiled as the ropes were cut and Raven, not Imani, kicked a chair to his feet. "Sit," she stated, still angry. Probably because she wouldn't get to hurt him.

"The wolf you encountered does indeed have a name. Her name is Beast, and she is a part of us all, not a prehistoric animal, but our wolf. The magic you smelled is a charm to keep people away. It is supposed to invoke terror. I admire you for making it to our territory. You are the only one to ever do that." Shanice looked into his warm brown eyes as she spoke and the goddess help her. She wanted to melt. It was alarming, the way he watched her. It made her feel naked.

"Fate," he said.

"Maybe," Shanice said, smiling.

"Maybe not," Raven hissed.

"That is neither here nor there," The feline said. "What is intriguing to me, Mr. Alpha is that we are having the same issues."

"What?" Reggie tore his eyes from his mate to look at the very tall lady before him.

"We are also missing members," Imani stated, wringing her fingers. "Six young women. have vanished without a trace or scent."
