Chapter 2 - The End

"Your Highness, we must escape, they are going for your head."

The thunder clasps as heavy rain fell into the dark, damp, Albanese soil. The Revolutionary Army has taken most of the Albanese Capital and nobles are slowly siding with the revolutionaries. The Palace guards built a barricade and the stables have been emptied for the horses have been moved to the escape route. King Lodayr now watches at the window of his palace, seeing his men, armed with rifled muskets and limited ammunition, willing to fight.

"I will not leave my land… bring the carriage out. Bring the Queen, my sons and daughters and my royal guests out of the capital." Ordered the King. "The escape route shall be going to Livinia, we have made a treaty of asylum with them." His servants did these and let the Albanese Royal family escape without the King.

Upon hearing the decision of the King, Queen Filitah approached the King, who is now looking at the window, thinking of what the fate of the land be. He was hugged from behind by the Queen and said "Please… don't do this your highness."

"I love you, dear queen, but who will love this land adored by many if I am not to stay?"

The King then faced the Queen, "You have a role now, escape to Livinia, and protect the family we both love…" says the King.

"Please… please stay alive on us…" says the Queen. "I promise" says the King, afterwards, he kissed the Queen goodbye. The Queen then departed from the premises. She was led by the servants outside to the Gardens of the Palace, where a carriage awaits them.

The Queen Escaped with the whole family, and a Guest Principal Advisor. Included in this Escape was Prince Yosef, Crown Prince Lodayr, Prince Kanan and the Infant Prince Korol. The daughters include Princess Felina, Princess Kaja, Princess Judiah, Princess Camilla and Princess Nuyrah. All of them are accompanied by the Guest Principal Advisor named Haroldus. With them are guards armed with Grenavian Rifles and a coach driver.

As they were passing by the road to Geroyville, eight rogue riskers ambushed the carriage which carries the Royal Family. Queen Filitah came out to see the hindrance of their carriage but as soon as her head gets out of the carriage, she is shot by a crossbow and fell dead on the ground. Two rogue riskers then quietly tied the gunpowder barrels on the carriage amidst fierce fighting by the two guards on which even the coach driver joined in. The Guest Principal Advisor was sneaking out what he can: Princess Kaja, Crown Prince Lodayr and the infant Prince Korol. They went to the woods to escape the fierce fighting. Princess Kaja, who can't run much with them, was captured by one of the bandits, grabbed on the waist and taken away. Crown Prince Lodayr was shot by a Musket by one of the rogue riskers and only the Infant Prince and Haroldus remained alive. Haroldus remained in hiding for a while.

Suddenly, an explosion arose. The banging of the remaining children in the carriage can be heard ringing in the dark woods. Soon, the bandits lit the carriage and, along with the remnants of the Royal Family in Carriage, exploded. The bodies were either disfigured, burned or unrecognizable. On that day, darkness and the grayness of the sky shone over the Albanese Kingdom and the whole Continent of Axis.

The carriage fire kept burning as the rogue riskers returned to their employer. It was no other than Duke-General Willemus.

"Now that the Royal Family is dead for good, the republic will celebrate. Tomorrow, the king… no… Lodayr the Traitor will be beheaded and I will be elected President! That is it!" he says this whilst clenching his fists tight and then, he departed his office. He rode his carriage to the General-Court.

Inside the General Court, the representatives were talking and building up factions and parties that emanate their views.

"We should model the new republic after the Bendrigians" said the Republicans.

"No, we should be like East Alban" said the Confederates.

"I believe… that the nation needs a king to elect" said the Electivists.

"I propose that the Albanese Nation should have its own government unaligned or plagiarized from foreign nations" said the Nationalists. Then the duke-general arrived and sat among the Confederates. The General Court then started.

"Appointed Representatives of the General Court. Today we vote on your proposals for the model of our nation's government. I request all of you to stand, and recite the plea." The whole General Court stood and raised their right hand. In Unison they recited: "I plea as man of this Assembly that with all of my conscience attached for my nation, I vote willingly with opposition to Personal Interests, Corruption and Bribery." Then they all sat.

The General Court Speaker then stood. "We all gathered here to vote on the proposition submitted by the four factions of this new government we have right now." He then opened a scroll to announce the proposals. "The Republicans wishes to propose a Democratic Republic. The Confederates proposes a Federal Republic. The Electivists wanted to instill an Elective Monarchy. Finally, the Nationalists wishes to set up a Government principled by the Albanese Ideas."

"The General Court will now commence the voting" says the Speaker. So, the voting did start. Everyone wrote on Papyrus, folded it and dropped it in the boxes for vote collection. There were a total of seven hundred and forty-nine representatives.

"And now, the counting of votes…" From that spot on, the counting began with the tallyman. Twenty Minutes through the voting, the counted votes were a hundred and ninety-four. The leading faction among the votes are the Nationalists. "Surely the Nationalists are going to win…" says an audience. The tallyman continued to announce the voting. He picked up a piece of papyrus, read the vote and said out loud: "Nationalists, seventy-one." Then another "Nationalists, Seventy-two." Then Willemus, who sat among Confederates, returned to his office in the Palace of the General Court, a building in the Complex of Palaces built for his former majesty Korol the Great.

As Willemus returned to his office, he immediately picked his plume up, wrote a letter to the Speaker to which it says:

"To the Honourable Speaker of the General Court,

The Great Alban will see your actions for this. I shall ask you now, will you see the republic in peril or will you see it in glory? You must do what is right albeit by formal conventions it is not. As possible as you can, alter the votes in favour of the Confederates. We must win in order to stabilize this unruly nation and to end tyranny and treason once and for all. You are my companion in this, so shall I be in the future of this nation.

Willemus, Duke-General"

He called onto his adjutant, and told him "Bring this to the Speaker, and be discreet."

The General Court is in complete silence and tension. The Tallyman continues to count the votes, and now the count is in either the favour of the Confederates or Nationalists. "Nationalists, Eighty-seven" The Nationalists were rejoicing a bit as they broke yet another tie with the Confederates. "Electivists, twenty-seven. Nationalists, Eighty-eight." The Nationalists then cheered again by waving papers above their heads. "Confederates, Eighty-four. Confederates, Eighty-five." The Confederates on opposition cheered again and a representative among them cried "We'll win, you bastards". "Wish for it, wizards!" The court became disarrayed until the gavel was pounded by the speaker "Silence, in the name of the counts!" The Tallyman continued counting. "Nationalists, Eighty-nine." Then there was small cheering with Nationalists.

Then, a letter arrived to the Speaker. He read the letter, to which he saw its contents. He then went down from his seat, and whispered something to the Tallyman. The Tallyman announced "Due to allegations of vote fraud, the speaker wishes to suspend…" The whole court fell into disarray again as they all mock the voting suspension. "The Fraud is happening!" "This is truly unfair and suspicious!" says some as they jeered on the decision of the court to suspend the voting.

"I—I raise an accusation to the Speaker for his promotion of fraudulent voting!" says the Nationalist Leader. "Why panic…" The whole court silenced as the Duke-General has arrived and raised his voice to the Nationalists. "…Citizen?" continues Willemus

"I propose to vote against his accusation!" says Willemus. "The state of panic done by this Citizen is similar to admitting that investigations are to be feared and avoided." The whole crowd was shocked, and others looked at each other. "I say, we must support the Speaker in his suspension for further investigation, who is with me?" The Duke-General raised his hand, followed by his fellow Confederates, then by Electivists, and slowly, the Majority of the Court raised their hand in favour of his proposal. The General Court soon left slowly, one by one as if the Duke-General had imposed authority over stubborn mouths.

The Duke-General, and others left the Palace of the General Court for a common destination: The Plaza of the Great Obelisk. It was named "Imperial Plaza", but was renamed due to a provisional proposal by the Revolutionaries. The Members of the General Court were all in one place, including the Duke-General, and they have the best view of what is about to happen.

Near the obelisk stood six gallows, each with three men on the noose, standing above a platform, which if flipped, will mean instant death to the men tied on the noose. The men on the noose are the remnants of the Guards of the Palace. Soon, a carriage with the last King arrived. It was a plain one, contrary to what he rides during his visits and inspections. It was black, and did not have gold leafing on its sides. There was none behind the carriage that could help the king to get off the carriage or to take down the steps of the carriage. The man who will be doing that is his executioner. His carriage suddenly stopped at the center of the plaza, where the great obelisk stands. The Great Obelisk that symbolized the birth of an empire under the great King Korol, now serves as a place of execution for the last king of this chaotic state. The door was opened for him, and the steps of the carriage was taken down by the executioner. He faced the King, and said "Good day, mister." The King averted his eyes to the ground then to the sky. He then asked "What should I do, mister?" The executioner responded "Follow me mister."

The King… now just named Mister Lodayr, is now faced with a squad of the revolutionary army, armed with Grenavian Rifles. As Lodayr was being lead to the place where he will be shot by the firing squad, he sees his loyal Colonel. With his sabre, he took it off the sheath and raised it.

"Make ready!"

"Take aim…" and as the colonel is screaming this, tears flowed on his face. The Duke-General however raised his hand and asked the Colonel to stop. "Does the tyrant want to say any last words?"

A man from the crowd immediately cried "No tyrant deserves to speak!" He was then followed by a massive amount of cheering and shouting "Let the People Win! Glory to Alban!"

As the cheering of the crowd cannot be stopped, the King looked straight at the Colonel, with a straight and firm expression and told him "Finish it, Colonel." He then raised his sabre once more and screamed for the second time amidst the crowd's unstoppable cheering.

"Make ready!"

"Take aim…"

"FIRE!"

The firing squad shot at the king as he shouts "Glory to Alban!" The remnants of the Palace Guards were hanged and the cheering became louder as they sing republican songs, national hymns, and revolutionary chants. The Colonel could not contain his tears, so he bowed his head, removed his hat, and cried. The Bullets flew to the King's chest, head, neck and abdomen. The Duke-General then approached the king, took out his flintlock and shot Lodayr on his head for the last time. The crowd goes wilder and cheered louder. The Duke-General then raised his fist, with the flintlock still in hand and shouted "Glory to Alban, and death to the traitors!"

And so, death were delivered to who they branded as traitors. Royalists fled to Livinia after promising to harbor the refugees by Alban. Before some can even reach the border, raiders hinder them already. They first capture the children then taken away. For a man, he is either to be slaughtered, to fall into the nearest canyon, to be shot in the head, or to be immolated. For a woman, she is to be raped first under custody of these Republican raiders, or to suffer the same fate as his husband or a man with them. For children, they are to be brought back to be educated under Republican Principles, or be thrown against the bayonet of their rifles if they do not stop crying. The Republicans must kill them lest they face wars against other nations for harboring political criminals. As for the elderly, they are to be beaten by clubs or beheaded by axes. It was truly a brutal massacre. All these atrocities are being done, whilst they are shouting "Hail to Alban and to its Republic!"

The Extremists for the Republican cause were pillaging, bringing chaos around the country. There was no peace to those who favor the Royal Family. It was total anarchy.

Three days after the execution, the General Court commenced its meetings. Surprisingly, the Nationalists were not inside during the counting of votes. While the counting is taking place inside, the Nationalists were actually staging a rally outside the Palace of the General Court. Their Leader, Giorgi de Ruffia, spoke to the overwhelming crowd, which supports the Nationalist Cause. "Inside, a fraud is happening. The elections forged and mandated by the Confederates are now taking place insi…" The crowd were jeering after. "Confederate cheaters! You all do not deserve to sit inside!" said a Nationalist on stage. The crowd then shouted repeatedly "Let the people win! Glory to Alban!" as the counting continues inside.

Twenty minutes of counting, and Nationalists lead the count with two hundred and twenty-eight votes whilst the Confederates have two hundred and nineteen votes. The counting was almost finished when suddenly, a man came inside. The man was a member of the Guard of the General Court. He whispered something to the speaker and went away.

"Men of General Court, before an announcement of who the winnin—…"

The voice of the people then echoed. They have infiltrated and entered the premises of the General Court and as they arrived at the chamber, they were stopped by a platoon of Elite Soldiers. The crowd were cheering once again, now with the Nationalists. "Let the People win! Glory to Alban!" shouts the crowd as they try to overpower the chamber. By then, a winner had been decided by the General Court, but they were not able to announce it properly. It was then clear that the country will run deep into chaos once more as an imminent civil war may happen.

The Elder of the Porch however, whispered something to a man, on which the man nodded and as for the Elder, he ran to the Podium of the Speaker. That Elder was Minister Hargi. Soon, the bells around the palace were ringing. It was at the moment the bells became quiet that Minister Hargi pounded the gavel to call for order and silence to the General Court.

"Men of Alban. The Great Khova greatly believes that your very heart and hand speaks for the good of this land. However, we must know that as we continue this firefight, this chaos and violence, we only call for deaths of our brave compatriots who have already fought a decent battle against tyranny."

He continues "Will we let the tyranny of violence, death and slavery raise a hand to occupy our life and newfound freedom?"

The whole court fell silent and everyone looked at each other. The leader of the Nationalists began to clap slowly, followed by his compatriots then by the whole court. The Elder raised his hand to ask the crowd to listen. "As Elder, a fair eye judges. I propose a tribunal to investigate the recent elections and the different parties can file cases from the Electoral Tribunal." Then everyone clapped in favour of his proposal. "Bravo!" praised some. "Excellent, mister! Excellent!" says a court member. Of course though, the Duke General did not want any of this to happen: It is just not under his control.

Electoral protests were filed, local discontent aroused and provincial infighting prevailed. The people needs a definite leader and all efforts were tarnished by electoral frauds, scandals and disasters. However, everyone knows indeed that the one who sits as a leader will indeed lead the nation to either to prosperity, or to demise.

The Electoral Tribunal now had a resolution: To sit the Confederates as the Government and to sit the Nationalists as the opposition, on which it will have the power to veto final decisions. The order is clear and indeed now, a foundation of a proper republic is formed.

The Duke-General, now sitting as the Leader of the Republic, stands on the balcony of the Albanese capitol Palace. He was before a crowd, and Elder Hargi. He made a personal declaration of duty: "I will be a fair leader of magnanimity. As magnanimous as this fair nation which is free and strong-willed. I say this to the Fifteen million Albanese men and women! Glory to Alban! Hail to the Republic!"

The People followed by cheering "Hail to the Republic!" then, the national anthem started to play:

"Glory to the Alban People

Glory to our Great Nation

Our Voice might be a ripple

It created revolution

Truly desired by all bravely

Standing for freedom firmly,

Realizing our aspirations

To present to all nations

Fight for freedom, fight for freedom

Down to tyrant's rise and felony

Marching onward, without a doubt

Raise the flag of Liberty!"
