''Okay, thank you, but only if you do the same & talk about mommy around me. I like when you talk about mommy, sometimes it almost feels as if she is still with us ''states Thomas as his tears stop and all of a sudden appears. A smile on his face feeling a bit of closure about his mom and no longer having that fear about how his dad would react if he confronted him about her? It made it very difficult for him as a little boy to overcome & deal with his feelings from losing Zoey, which he never did right after it happened nor at the funeral because he thought that if his dad saw him, sad Liam would be more broken. If both of them grieved when they both were supposed to, then everything would be fine. However, both of them were too afraid about opening up to one another when it involved the same extraordinary person, to be exact?
''I promise to be open about mommy from now; I guess I thought it was better not to talk about her for your sake. Although I might have misjudged you, now that I know you can handle me talking about mommy around you. I won't hide that side of me from you from now on, ''tells Liam looking in his rearview mirror, seeing how much his boy has grown up.
''Thank you, and why is mommy's key necklace hanging from your mirror?'' asks Thomas curiously as he can tell that it is her's since he has been eyeing it since he was a baby. Plus, every once and a while, he would stare at how it shined in the light and would tend to pull on it to remove it from around her neck.''It makes me feel where she is always with me, I mean us. I gave that your mom on our first anniversary back when we were in high school ''tells Liam. Looking at his rearview mirror and spots Zoey behind them as she mouths ''proud of you'' and smiles at Liam before fading away.
He smiles, thinking to himself,'' I made you a promise to be there for our boy Zoey, and I kept that''.On their way back to Peppermint, as they see the sign Welcome to Peppermint sign.''Home sweet home bud, as he heads to his parent's house, let's see grandma & grandpa' 'tells Liam to his son, hoping with having Tom with him. They won't be able to get mad at him quickly for just taking off with any notice? With his little buddy right by his side, it's completely impossible.
Avery sits on the couch reading a book as she looks up and sees her son's black truck pull up. Jeremy there here'' says Avery as she quickly drops her book onto the couch before she dashes out the door.
''Are you hurt? What even happened one minute you're leaving the inn and the next you two are gone?'' questions Avery out of breath with how many questions were said less than seconds apart from another. Wondering where they have been? Since no one has seen them all over town? Did they go somewhere else located in Vermont? It's very unlike her son to take off the way he did?
''We are both fine; I just figured that Tom and I needed a little father-son time together to leave the state of Vermont for a few days,'' states Liam. He was not backing down to his mom, mainly because he is an adult & has a child of his own, which on the contrary, gives him the right to leave town without needing permission or telling anyone his plans with his son.
''Were you able to pick up his school work? I mean, you went in the middle of a school week?' asks Avery, not understanding the reasoning for this little trip? Mainly wanting to know the meaning behind it? Did he go to Brooklyn, New York, to find a certain someone whose name begins with an H?
''Yes I picked up his schoolwork, what kind of parent do you think I am?'' says Liam defensively.
''The kind who just takes off with his boy in the middle of a school week'' tells Avery knowing that if Zoey were still alive things would be a lot different?
''I didn't take away to clear my head after everything that happened, with Hazel leaving with no word but with a letter sorry that I didn't want to hang around that way. Everyone could feel sorry for me ''yells Liam.
''I think that you should go to one of those away rehab facilities it might be what you need there is a great place in North Carolina '' says Avery.
''I'm not interested in any location that isn't in the state of Vermont, I would never leave my son, and I can't believe you just said that right in front of him momma ''states Liam not wanting to be far away from Thomas.
''Hey, buddy why don't you go play in the backyard, I will be out there shortly ''tells Liam not wanting his son to hear any more of this conversation than he already has before things start to get ugly. Thomas nods his head and goes in the backyard up in his dad and aunt's old treehouse back when they were right around his age.
''If you were really concerned about your son then you would go to the facility and get the true help that you need because you very much need the help'' tells Avery. Versus's what his thick and stubborn head of his thinks that is covered with his brunette brown hair. When he is trying to move forward with the possibility of something new, is being stopped by the painful past? Not that getting help will make him forget what he lost, but will progress the possibility of someone new?
''You always do this I am a great father and have been doing just fine on my own for almost a year and a half now. I know that I need the help that's why I am going to find a Grief Group for widowers close because I am not leaving my son for any reason" says Liam.
