Hazel is just watching Liam walk away towards his truck, watches him get in and drive away. Thinking I only did what Avery asked me to do? Why did she ask me to do this? Isn't this something that Avery should have done as his mom? It should have come from herself wanting the best for her son. However, she can't force him to do this either; Liam has to be wanting to do this willingly, not by force.''Hazel, are you going to join us for Peppermint hot chocolate?'' asks Thomas, not to know what just went on. Or that his dad just left and drive off, to who knows where? ''I would love to, but I think I am going to pass on this one; I am suddenly not feeling well, ''says Hazel, knowing that if Liam ends up going to his sister's cafe. He probably won't want to see her there, and things were looking up for them? Now he can't even look her in the eye, is the world telling her this isn't meant to be?
''Oh, okay, maybe we can bring you some soup after to help you get better, ''says Thomas wanting to help her get better. You can tell that Tom is just like his mom, to where he loves helping people. The way she did back when she was alive, which is what Tom observed as her little helper.''I would like that thank you ''says Hazel as she heads back to the inn. When her phone rings and sees the caller id Oliver, & thinks to herself. Maybe this is a sign that it's time to have Peppermint?
As she answers her phone, ''hello' 'says Hazel, wondering why her boss is calling so late?
''Hazel, what happened? You were supposed to be in the office yesterday? To present your idea, when are you returning to Brooklyn?'' asks Oliver, frustrated on what is taking her so long to get back to the city? Not knowing how much this town and group of people have changed the way she sees things. Maybe the city isn't her cup of tea anymore? To where small-town life is her calling, after all, she might have found her soul mate there? Although after what Avery asked her to do? Did she lose her chance at the one?
''I know, sir, and I promise the second I get the verdict that the intersection has opened up, I will be on my way back to the city, ''states Hazel.
''Alright, please try & get back as quick as you possibly can, oh and let me know in advance. That way, I can reschedule and have the board come to Top Magazine and hear what you have prepared ''says Oliver.
''I will let you know as soon as I arrive back to Brrooklyn''states Hazel sitting in her Christmas site petting her cat Snowball.''Oh, Snowball, what should I do? As much as I love Brooklyn & my job at Top Magazine, this town showed me. What it truly means to be part of a community where everyone feels part of a family. Who is there for one another whenever they need to lean on each other? Plus, with now having deep feelings for Liam, I might consider staying here. Since there isn't anything keeping me back in Brooklyn? Which one should I chose, Snowball, to move here? Or stay there?'' asks Hazel curiously, not knowing what to do?
When back at the Candy Cane Cafe, Thomas is having his Peppermint hot cocoa, wondering where his dad is? It's unlike him to take off without telling anyone? Makes him wonder did something happen? Is anything wrong? As Avery is looking at Thomas with a mother's intuition, knowing that something is going on? With her son unexpectedly leaving the school without a word & then taking off with no notice at all? This is how Liam was after losing Zoey, almost as he goes back to his old ways as they have gone back in time a year?
Where without talking to Hazel or having her near him, it's almost to where this is setting him back? Also, having a gut sense feeling that somehow this has to have something to do with Hazel? Confronting her son about the favor, she asked Hazel at the Christmas party? To where this might have something to do with her in the end? Would Avery hate to be the cause of her baby boy's rift of sudden unhappiness? Back to how he was when he lost the love of his life, it's bringing Avery back to the day. Where her son buried his wife & said goodbye until they would meet again.
She goes back to that various day, at Peppermint cemetery December 11 th 2009, as Liam is the first to speak. ''Thank you for all coming; Zoey loved you all and this town; unfortunately, a drunk driver took her away from us too soon, and this June would be our twelfth marriage anniversary. So it would be nineteen years that we have been together. She was the most amazing mom to our son Thomas and an incredible wife and best friend who I will miss you much. Also who Thomas and I are going to miss so much. Life will not be the same without you, baby, but I will carry on strong & look after our boy for you. As you watch & look over us ''tells Liam as he looks at her casket going down into the ground. Having a hard time keeping it together but is trying to be strong. From his son's perspective, although he shouldn't be afraid to show emotion in front of Tom.
As she comes out of the flashback memory from her daughter-in-law's funeral.Knowing that her son's progression from losing Zoey a year ago has yet to make any progression to this day? Which makes her wonder will ever stop blaming himself? There was nothing he could have done differently if he was with her that night. Liam would have died along with his wife, and Thomas would have lost both of his parents? Until Liam truly accepts what happened to his wife that night, he won't be able to move on from the tragic moment Zoey lost her life and to be happy once again?
