Chapter 70 - Jason’s true origin: Part Two

Jason straightened his posture nervously, waiting to hear what Sabrina had to tell him; whatever secret she had been hiding from him for all these years.

"To begin with, it breaks my heart to say this, but you're right. You're not my son, she said in a saddened tone and Jason was shocked to find out that the woman who had been his mother for his entire life life was not his real mother.

"Y-You're joking right?? Right?!," he asked nervously and she shook her head, with tears rolling down her cheeks.

He was stunned about this information, but he knew he needed more.

"Then, who am I? Who are my parents?? Am I even a citizen of Pardour in this first place??"

Sabrina replied, "No, you are not a Pardourian or even a citizen of Ravenbrook for that matter; but…there is so much more to your history than you think."

"You see, it all started eight years ago -twelve years if we count the extra four years you have skipped with your evolution."

"It was a heavy winter night since a storm was blowing throughout Ravenbrook and I was warming my blankets at the back of the house in the garden, when I saw someone a few meters away from me near the forest faint onto the ground."

"I was a bit worried, so I grabbed my coat and a lantern and I went to see who was the one laying down on the snowy ground. When I got to the person, I saw a beautiful woman covered in blood holding a bundle of wrapped up cloaks of the finest silk, so I guessed she was a very wealthy individual."

"I tried to wake her up and felt her pulse but it was too weak. So I went to her cloak and that's when I first met you. You were a crying little baby boy wrapped up in a cloak, with your mother holding you tight," Sabrina chuckled amidst tears with Jason trying to hold his tears back.

"I was worried about your safety, so I grabbed you and tried to keep you warm then and there. But the weather outside was too cold and unbearable, so I began to move back to the house with you in my arms and call for help for your mother."

"But as I started to move, an arm held my leg and I turned in fear, and it was your mother, still moving but was too weak to get up."

" "P-Please, lady. You…must…protect…my baby…boy…for…me. Promise…that…you'll do this…for me," she said and suddenly her hand let go of me and dropped lifelessly onto the snow, her eyes shut and her breathing faded. She was gone," she said, with Jason fazed in horror, his eyes leaking in tears hearing that.

"W-What are you saying?? You're saying my mom's…dead??," he asked which Sabrina painfully nodded.

She continued, "I was shaken in fear with what had just happened and rushed to the house with you still crying in my arms but were getting sick from the harsh cold. I placed you near the fireplace to get you warm and I went to find someone to help me bring your mother's body inside."

"A few hours later, after the storm ceased, I called for a doctor to check your mother and see whether she could be confirmed dead before we could bury her. And he unfortunately did confirmed her demise."

"As I waited and planned on how to bury her, I saw a piece of paper in her pocket and a necklace around her neck."

"As I saw that necklace, my legs trembled in fear as it bore the insignia of the Houndshear Empire -The Land of the Werewolves."

Jason then said, "That explains my transformation during that tournament and why that dude from earlier," referring to Zhu Li during his three-way battle early in the tournament.

"So you've transformed…just as she said you would," she replied, much to Jason's surprise.

"Wait, you're telling me my mother knew about my transformation even during her dying moments??," and that made more tears to leak from his eyes.

She nodded and continued, "Your mother was proud to have you as her son and knew you would be a great individual, even before she could see you grow and even during her death."

Sabrina held his cheek, sobbing, "I'm sorry, Jason!! I truly wish you wouldn't find out this way!! You must hate me now!!"

Jason then got up and hugged Sabrina tightly, saying amidst tears, "No!! I don't hate you!! In fact, I have no anger towards you for anything!! It's true I'm upset I didn't know about this any sooner, but you've always been there for me and acted as my own mother. So thank you!! Thank you for being for me…Mom!!," he said tearfully and comforting his sobbing mother figure.

A few hours later, after he saw Sabrina to bed, he went to the dining table and took out the letter and necklace from the box, remembering what Sabrina told him earlier.

"I do not know what those markings are or how important your mother was. But whoever she was married to must have been very prominent and surely someone wanted the both of you dead for some reason. So…please be careful!!"

"Concerning her note…," she said, walking to a shelf nearby and removing an old box and placing it near Jason while opening it. "..I think it would be best if you read it yourself;" these were Sabrina's final words before she went to sleep after being so exhausted.

Jason then took out the necklace and saw a red wolf carving encased in a octagonal ring as the centerpiece.

He held it and looked at it carefully before placing it aside and took out the note.

He opened the note and he read it carefully:

"My dear boy, I am so sorry you would read this message when I am no longer by your side in this world. It breaks my heart that you'll find out that your mother will not be able to watch you grow into a fine warrior and man as your father is. Nonetheless, I know you'll have many people who will care about you and help you grow. I know you will have a lot of questions, but for your safety, I'll answer only two of a few that you might ask when you're a bit older: One, you're from a prestigious family in the Werewolf race and you're the pride and envy of the entire Houndshear Nation. Two, the red markings you will bear in future when you're grown up and the necklace I left for you is an indication that you're wanted by many bad individuals that wanted you and your father dead for hindering their malicious plans. So I plead that this is not known to anyone. I wish I could have a better situation, where I do not to write this letter to you while you're not even born yet. Despite the hardships you will face in the future, the enemies you will make and face, I hope you will find allies to help and guide your path. Forgive me, my son. I love you with all my heart and soul.

Love, Mom."

As he read, he shook and couldn't hold back his tears and wept painfully until he slept on the dining table.

Sabrina got downstairs, holding a blanket, and covered him with it before kissing his head in tears before climbing back to her room.
