Chereads / Grand Battle - In The Modern Day! / Chapter 2 - The beginning of it all.

Chapter 2 - The beginning of it all.

I left school at about 6:30 PM and the sun was starting to set. The Christmas festival doesn't start till 8:00 PM so I had some time to kill. I decided to take the long way home so I could get a sneak peak of downtown and see what kind of festivities were going on. Walking without my music felt so weird as I have seriously grown accustomed to it. It was weird.

As I was just on the outskirts of Downtown I could see some of the Christmas lights from the displays shimmering. It was so beautiful I stopped for a moment to stare. I began to reminisce on memories from my first time attending the Christmas Festival. Thinking back brought a smile to my face.

Suddenly my mind was no longer at ease as the sound of screaming flooded my ears. My heart began to pound. Again another scream... "HELP!!" It was a Female voice and I could tell that it was coming from the nearby alley way. I didn't know what to do. What could I do? I was frozen with fear.

I began to run for the Alley. I don't know why but I did. It was as if I had no control over my body and was just relying on pure adrenaline. I approached the corner to the Alley and turned swiftly.

It was then at the moment I saw it. The most gruesome scene I've ever laid my eyes on. I first noticed the lacerated and partially dismantled body of an Adult female. Her eyes met with mine as she gasped one final word.

"Please..."

I gasped and took a step back. The Monster that caused this mayhem was on top of the female. He jolted his head up to look at me and then I realized what was truly going on. Blood dripped from his chin and pieces of skin hung from his mouth. He was eating this poor lady. This Monster was like nothing I've ever seen before. Half of his face was what looked to be Human and the other half... Monster

Me and the creature stared at each other for a moment. He wiped his mouth with his arm and then he spoke.

"So you must be having a really unlucky day huh?"

He began to laugh hysterically.

I was lost. So many things were going through my head at once. I couldn't even think to myself. Not that I had time because the Monster continued to speak.

"You've already seen too much so I can only imagine that you know what's gonna happen now right?" He said as he stood up from the body of the lifeless female.

He then put his arms to his side and they did something I've never seen before.

His arms began to change. Starting from his hand and continuing up the arms of the Monster slowly became blades. Infused with his skin and bones were now the weapons he used to murder this Woman. I knew I would soon suffer the same fate.

"Look I um.. I..." I tried to say but couldn't finish my sentence. Then suddenly the Monster made his move.

"Time for you to share the same fate as this bitch here!" and he lunged towards me. He was so fast. I knew it was the end for me. And then I acted. Just like before it felt as if I no longer had control over my body. I pulled my Backpack off, swung it around my body to gain momentum and then launched it at the Monster intercepting him as he came towards me. The Monster sliced with his blades in and X pattern causing all my papers to go flying about.

With the coverage of the papers I took off running. I ran fast. Faster than I ever have before.

Still I wasn't fast enough. The Monster was tailing me quick. I knew the only way that I could get away from the Monster was if I made some distance between us and hid. With that idea in mind I knew the perfect place to lead him.

Light construction work was going on in some of the alleys after being vandalized by criminals. That was my best option to separate us.

I took a sharp right into the first alley I seen and luckily this one was under construction. As I entered I immediately had to begin maneuvering myself over pallets, under scaffolding, and through debris. It was perfect. Barrels of metal pipes were scattered around so I knocked some over as I ran by them.

The Monster shortly behind me slipped on one of the pipes and fell face first onto the ground. This moment gave me just enough time to cut another corner and look for a hiding place. I noticed more scaffolding and started to climb. From there I climbed to the roof of a nearby building. Unfortunately from here I had nowhere else to go as the Monster began to creep around the corner of the alley. From where I was I could see him but he couldn't see me. I was stuck but thankfully I was undetected. A barrel of metal pipes stood next to me. I grabbed one as I prepared for the inevitable.

The Monster creeping down the alley began to speak.

"I know you're around here. You can't hide forever." My heart started to pound even more. Sweat dripped down my face. I was scared for my life. I gripped my weapon tighter and started to think. What can I do?

Just below me I noticed the Monster. What I also noticed is that the portion of him that was still human was where his heart should be. If I could shove this pipe through his heart maybe at the least I could slow him down enough for me to make it home.

If I was going to do this I needed to do it fast before the Monster could notice me. I started to run and jumped right off the building. While I was in the air I raised the pipe above my head. I was aiming right for him. Using the force of gravity I pressed the pipe forward right for his heart.

Suddenly it felt as if time slowed down for just a moment. Just enough time for the Monster to turn around and notice me! Still it wasn't fast enough as the pipe entered through his left shoulder. At the same time due to the height of the jump I pummeled into the monster causing us both to crash into the ground. I rolled for a moment with the Monster on the ground. Thankfully he took the brute of the fall for me, unintentionally of course.

I managed to get away from the Monster as he continued rolling. But quickly and swiftly he was able to stand right to his feet again. He began to scream.

"AHHH DAMNIT! I SWEAR I'M GONNA SLICE YOU IN HALF!"

The Monster's arm Transformed back to normal and he grabbed the pipe that was lodged into his left shoulder and pulled it out. Blood poured from the wound but was quickly cut short. The wound began to heal itself! I couldn't believe it! He then threw the pipe to his side not needing it as his arm was once again a blade.

"You're the first Human who has actually managed to cause me harm. Fascinating." the Monster said calmly while looking intently towards me.

Throwing his arms to his side he began to run at me. He was so fast. In that moment all I could do was cower down and put my arm in front of me. I closed my eyes and prepared to die.

In that moment I began to reminisce once again. But this time it was of the moment earlier in the day when my mother gave me that charm. Her voiced echoed to me.

"Aiga keep safe today."

And then I heard what sounded like a sword and shield clashing together. I quickly opened my eyes to see one of the most amazing things ever. In front of my hand was what looked to be a projection of a massive shield. It shinned bright but was no bother to my eyes. A miracle it was as it protected me from sure death. I could see The Monster on the other side of this shield with a look of fear. Suddenly the projection started to fade away. Just like before when I first attacked the Monster Time began to slow. I could feel a sudden burst of energy and my first reaction was to draw my fist back. I swung forward with all my might. I could feel the full force of my punch make direct impact with the hideous creatures face. Instantly the Monster went flying backwards straight into a large area of scaffolding and debris. On top of that shingles and bricks began to fall down onto the Monster as well, burying him under.

Immediately I needed to catch my breath as it felt as if time began to flow as normal once again. It was so weird. With all my might I began to run away and head straight home. I stumbled down the alley way trying to get away as fast as possible. I then started to feel like I was gonna pass out.

"Oh no... I need to get somewhere safe..." I mumbled to my self as I headed straight for a large dumpster to hide behind.

Once I was behind the dumpster I fell to my knees, then I fell down completely falling into a deep sleep.
