I shook along with the warden. His? I thought. Hmmm.
Another growl, a louder growl, brought me out of my thoughts.
I turned to the warden, trying to plead with him silently to let me go. He loosened his grip but he tightened his grasp on the scalpel, pushing it closer to my neck. I stiffened and focused on the beast, waiting for him to make a move.
He moved toward us stealthily; his movement was almost unnoticeable - and it was, at least for the unsuspecting warden.
The beast pounced on him, using his outstanding paws to maul and mutilate the warden's body. I was frozen as I watched the bloody event and listened to his wails as they echoed throughout the building. Wait ... if people could hear him surely someone would come and discover what was happening.
I sprung into action. This was my chance to escape and I was not about to pass up on this opportunity. "Hey!" I yelled at the beast, "Come on, we need to leave!" I made one pathetic attempt at pushing the vast expanse of his body before I gave up and started to leave on my own.
I cracked open the door, looking down the hallway. If anyone had heard the warden scream it was obvious they didn't plan on helping him. That's right! The warden! I could probably get some information out of him; there had to be a better route than the one that takes us directly to the front office. I turned on my heel and searched the room for the wardens half conscious body.
I came up empty. What? Somehow, both the warden's body and the beast were gone!
"Hey!" a guard called. I rolled my eyes. They were too late, but now I was once again left to clean up the mess of the beast.
