Chereads / Coal and Diamond / Chapter 7 - Tension

Chapter 7 - Tension

Gabriel and his partners were having some talks while walking. It was mostly about the experience in the previous fights.

"And when he did not notice me, I started to get a hold of myself and shrunk, that was how I escaped Poseidon's trap. I can now get big or small whenever and however I want!" - Gabriel

"That sounds so good, I wish I have a power like you!" - Geb

"Have you thought about when lightning strikes you? That is more horrifying than my rings." - Anubis

"Now that you remind me..." - Geb

"How would you know?" - Gabriel

"My ancestor is also one who controls lightning. He, amongst his siblings, holds the strongest power." - Anubis

Gabriel began to get alarmed:

"So, what do we do if we met the man?" - Gabriel

All three stood in silence. But just a moment later, Geb had figured out a plan and told them. The other two looked worrying as the odds of the plan working were very low.

"Do not worry, all you need to do is to show your fist, that is the sign." - Geb

As it was the only possible solution, they all agreed anyway. They continued having random conversations.

"Hey Geb, what will you do once we complete the job?" - Anubis

"I will first congratulate everyone! I will tell the citizen and our relatives to open the biggest party ever! I will not forget about you too, Gabriel!" - Geb

"Haha, I would appreciate it very much." - Gabriel

"Oh! Do you know what is better? That is to enjoy Anubis' cake! It has been ages since I last ate your delightful cake." - Geb

"What? Really? I would not say it is the best cake but thank you." - Anubis

They then noticed the rocks on the ground suddenly started to move. The ground shook rapidly, making many large gaps behind. As the gaps were getting closer to the three, they ran fast and far. Gabriel saw Geb running too slow so he grabbed Geb on the shoulder. Anubis shouted that they split in two, he would go to the right, the left is Gabriel and Geb. But the gap stopped in Gabriel's direction, it continued to approach Anubis. While running on a shaking surface, Anubis slipped. This had caught Gabriel's attention. Anubis quickly called his ring out and flew to a nearby tree. He took a deep breath and look around him to see what was going on. But then, the tree began to fall as the gap had gone through it. Anubis wasn't holding the rings. As a result, he accidentally dropped both of them into the gap. He then was shocked by the depth of it. He could barely see anything other than blackness. As the tree fell, he luckily held the border with one hand. Yet, the land was slippery, he was about to fall off. At the last second, Gabriel finally arrived and held Anubis' hand tightly. Despite having only half of his body on the land, Geb was on it fully and was able to hold Gabriel with plant vines. Geb started to pull them up, while Gabriel and Anubis tried to hold by the second hand. Suddenly, another crack opened underneath Gabriel. As it expanded, Gabriel slipped and Geb had a harder time. The crack soon opened widely, Gabriel was then out of the land, and Geb was pulled over. Gabriel and Anubis starred at each other, both held worries, panic, and sweat. As Gabriel tried to hold, his body began to grow, the weight was increasing. Geb's vines couldn't handle much longer, it appeared to have many holes and was about to shatter at any moment. Just in a blink of an eye, the vines had been broken. Geb sat on the ground hopelessly. He breathed in and out rapidly, thinking that he didn't try his best. He buried his face in tears. The ground was ceased to shake. From the back, Poseidon suddenly approached. He appeared in a smaller, muscular shape, and he was higher than the average human. With a heavy beard and the golden trident in his hand, he announced:

"It is good to see you again."

Geb was shocked about the appearance and the language Poseidon spoke. He was speaking Egyptian fluently.

"Are you surprised? [Giggle] You should. This is the second time we meet and shall also be the last." - Poseidon

In a second, Geb suddenly turned mad assuming Poseidon killed his friends. Poseidon replied that it was his fault for not rescuing them. Geb quickly ran towards and shouted:

"POISON CLAWS!"

But not long after, he was punched in the gut and knocked out. Geb quickly held the ground with the claws. He relieved:

"(My friends can not die that easily. I need to somehow defeat Poseidon.)"

Somewhere in Sparta, Iron with his smoking tubes sitting next to shattered houses. He was a friend to many, an archery teacher to few.

"(All the students I have taught were pure and promising. All the friends I made along were sympathetic. They did not deserve to die that easily.)" - Iron

He jumped as he suddenly heard footsteps nearby. Iron pulled out an arrow and was readied to strike. But then he saw a normal man who would later reveal to be Gabriel. As both had the conversation, he thought:

"(I want to see how far can you go. Gabriel Aimilios, you are a faithful one. You have given me courage.)"

As the earthquake occurred, Iron knew that it was Hades' doing. He walked out but to see a young boy being approached by Poseidon. He rapidly looked for Gabriel but he couldn't. It was at that moment that Iron realized that Gabriel needed help. Iron decided to go after Poseidon first to prevent anything bad that could happen. He had his tools packed and hung on his back.

Deep down the earth's surface, Anubis woke up as he landed. He was shocked to know Gabriel, in his giant form, hugging him. Anubis pulled Gabriel's hands over and tried to wake him up. He looked down and saw many spikes underneath. Anubis then knew that many of them had pierced through Gabriel's body. He couldn't stop apologizing. Suddenly, Gabriel cheered him up:

"Perhaps I can not die because I am destined to protect people around me."

He didn't let Anubis say any further but told him to move on. Anubis wiped away his emotions and began to look for his tools. As long as he could feel them, they are nearby. As Anubis took off, Gabriel started thinking about how he could have saved his family. Anubis had trouble finding a fine path to go. But more problematic was the fact that he had no idea where he was going. He had to carefully sneak to the deepest floor and walk slowly. As he went, he heard many unnerving noises, they sounded like people screaming. But that wasn't something new to him, he thought:

"(Those sounds are familiar. My place also has them. Is this Duat? Impossible. Why are both looked so similar? Could it be...)"

Anubis had a moment to remember. He then went for the path that, he believed, led to a gate. After just a short distance, despite the difficulties, Anubis was delighted that his belief was true, as he noticed that the lanes were more flattened than before and the screaming noise had disappeared. In front of him was a large gate of iron bars that had hundreds of human faces. The gate that led to The Underworld. The Underworld was an embodiment of darkness, the only light source was the hot lava and burning fires, and conceivably, the light from above. The place was a complete jumble, rough terrains, enormous mountains, oceans of red liquids, unknown flying creatures. It was a divergence from the normal world. Anubis couldn't trust his eyes, what he was looking at was worse than what he imagined. As he was about to return, he suddenly felt his rings were somewhere near. It took a moment until Anubis realized that the rings were somehow staying right in front of the gate. He got nearer so that he could call them by force. But as he was walking towards, a gigantic four-legged grey creature appeared. Anubis stopped his doing and hid behind a boulder. The creature then lay on the rings without knowing. Anubis felt outrageous and smacked his head to the boulder. He thought:

"(If this could not get any worse, then I will have to do what I am meant to do.)"

He slowly built his confidence and stepped out. He then shouted out loud:

"YOU THERE, STAND UP AND COME AT ME!"

The creature had shown its face and stared at Anubis.

"Oh, you are a dog? Then, what are you waiting for? Get up! (I hope this works, I am not sure whether it understands my words.)" - Anubis

Suddenly, the creature showed another head. At that moment, Anubis started to lose his confidence.

"Ah... You brought a friend with you, is that right? Or... you have..." - Anubis

Just as he thought it was over, another head came up. Anubis had started to sweat and doubted his decision. As the creature stood up, Anubis finally got the chance to get his rings back again. But the creature didn't forgive him but started growling angry and ran towards him at a ridiculous speed. Despite that, Anubis encouraged:

"Yes, yes, come at me... No matter how many heads do you have, they are all useless."

As the creature came close, both rings had quickly returned to Anubis' hands, he shouted:

"CROOKS OF DOOM"

Before the rings transformed into a powerful melee weapon. But then, the creature jumped and landed on Anubis. He luckily blocked it with the crooks. Its teeth were huge and so sharp that the crooks had seen to have little damage. Anubis tried to overcome it. Suddenly, the left head of it vomited strong acid. It quickly burnt a part of Anubis' arm. He changed his plan. He leaned down a bit then quickly stood up, which had the creature rolled to the back. Not long after, it got up and stared at Anubis again. Anubis noticed the collar of it said "Cerberus". While he was losing focus, Cerberus had turned to the left and let its right head in front. Anubis had suspected as he saw some smoke come out of its mouth. He quickly ran away. The right head opened its mouth widely and shoot a big fireball. Unexpectedly, the fireball followed Anubis. He then called his ring to turn back to normal, he stood on it and flew up. No matter how far and high he flee, the fireball never gave up perusing him. Eventually, Anubis saw how slow the fireball react when he changed direction. So he made a strategy that was to trick the fireball to go hit a boulder. As he found a nearby large boulder, he went straight to it. He waited until the last second before he turned in another direction, leaving the fireball to hit the boulder. He shouted out loud to celebrate. But not for long before more fireballs had been pursuing him in front. Anubis quickly flew down and was about to do the same trick. Suddenly, many drops of acid fell onto his back. As painful as it was, Anubis had to keep up, or else, it would be the end for him. He soon learned that Cerberus had put their acid vomit on their fireball. Slowly, Anubis started to lose control as his spine was severely destroyed. Even his regeneration ability couldn't heal him quickly enough. He couldn't think much at that moment but to enter the gate, he thought it was the only way to escape the fireballs. As Anubis went through between the iron bars, the fireballs couldn't follow him anymore. And instead, they had demolished the gate. Anubis was pleased, yet, started to lose his vision. As Cerberus was about to run to Anubis, it suddenly heard heavy footsteps. The footsteps echoed through the walls, each step got louder and heavier. Cerberus responded with a loud bark and thought it could scare the person. Yet, the footsteps continued. Cerberus was then scared of the person, it knew who was going to come. The hell dog took a step back and kneeled. As the person stepped out, a familiar voice was heard, it was Gabriel. He said loudly, but in a soft tone:

"It was raining outside. Then I heard the scream through my ears. Anubis, you have tried. Thank you for leading me to hell."

Cerberus quickly stood up, he didn't expect Gabriel's appearance. Both stared at each other. Without any further words, the three-headed dog growled aggressively. After spreading acid over, many fireballs were shot in different ways. Yet, Gabriel chose to run forward. As the fireballs got near, Gabriel slid left and right instantly. Still, he got damaged by the strong acid and fell onto his chest. As he thought he could escape, the fireballs had turned their direction back to Gabriel. Cerberus showed a big smile on its face, knowing that its attack would hit Gabriel before he could attack. Regardless, Gabriel ran without looking back. His eyes weren't looking at Cerberus. Just one second before the fireballs could hit Gabriel, he had quickly jumped through Cerberus. While it was looking at Gabriel in confusion, the fireballs had already hit it before it could even see. Leaving behind Gabriel was a massive explosion. Some shots of acid had been splashed on Gabriel's shoulders, but he could take the pain easily. Cerberus had somehow survived. It slowly, and painfully stood up, some of its furs had vanished and the skin darkened. The left head, which could vomit acid, had died. It was the one that took the most damage, leaving the other two less injured. The front head looked at Gabriel and squealed sadly. He thought that if the dog was still alive, he should kill it by himself. But as soon as he heard the crying, he loosened his strength and gave some words.

"If you can understand me... I have discerned through you by your actions. What has been frightening you? Whatever it is, you shall remember: Only the weak dies." - Gabriel

Cerberus was surprised at what he said. Gabriel gave it a slight smile, he knew the dog could understand humans. As he was about to go near Anubis, he had an idea of flying instead of walking. A few seconds later, a strong wind was set and lifted Gabriel to the midair. He slowly and surely controlled the wind movement. As he was steady, he flew through many obstacles quickly and easily. Gabriel then dropped and walked near Anubis. Luckily at that moment, Anubis had gotten his focus back. Gabriel lent a hand and said:

"Need a hand?"

"[giggle] I sure do." - Anubis

Anubis thanked Gabriel for saving his life again. Gabriel didn't forget to tell that it was Anubis that helped Gabriel, as well as congratulated his bravery. Not long after that, a long and loud shouting was heard throughout the Underground, making it shake. It was Hades:

"AIMILIOUS!!"

Hades had risen from nowhere. Despite him being very far away, he was seen bigger than ever. It was then when he had creepy bright eyes and had no pupils. The flaming on his head was enormous and hot enough to melt a whole castle, which was a thing that had happened. Gabriel had no choice but to tell Anubis to escape while turning himself into Typhos. Anubis understood and called out his rings to give him a lift. As he flew away, he heard a bark from Cerberus. It had sacrificed one of its heads by cutting off the dead one for less pain. He didn't expect it to live, but seeing its eyes, he felt a bizarre sympathy. He decided to go down and bring the dog with him onto the surface. As Gabriel completed the transformation, he wasted no time but to fly towards Hades. Yet, Hades had no hesitation and rushed into Gabriel. It was seen that Hades' size was doubled as Gabriel's, but Gabriel held no fear. Both yelled out loud then pulled out their first punch forcefully. Hades then started attacking left and right at a fast speed while Gabriel dodged through every attack. Gabriel waited until the moment that Hades unleashed his punch, Gabriel would move forward and strike his chest. Hades took a step back, refreshing. Both moved in circles.

"So, you have remembered my name?" - Gabriel

"More than that, I have written your name on a grave. No one has ever won against the God of Death." - Hades

"I highly doubt that. Still, was all of this your plan?." - Gabriel

"It took you long enough to realize. I want to see how far can half of you can deal." - Hades

"Open your eyes wider, I still have my legs, they are very small to be visible." - Gabriel

"Whatever. You have landed on my territory, The Underworld. You must know that only dead people or the ones have my permission could go here." - Hades

"Well, why do you bother to invite me?" - Gabriel

"Once I defeat you, you will live the life that Typhos used to have." - Hades

"Too bad, he has become one with me." - Gabriel

This time, Gabriel initiate the fight with a sing single punch to the head. Hades had luckily learned how Gabriel dodged and followed. He then crouched a bit and strike Gabriel's stomach with his elbow. Despite the pain, Gabriel held Hades' head and attacked from above, which almost made a crack on Hades' skull. Then Hades furiously kicked Gabriel onto the ceiling making him stuck. Shortly after, Hades summoned the dark blade and was readied to strike Gabriel. Despite the pain, Gabriel still held his consciousness. At the last second, Gabriel turned into his normal self, which had released him from the ceiling as well as dodging the fatality. Hades was shocked. The blade then cracked the ceiling. The force was so strong that it created a massive earthquake in the Underground. Gabriel quickly turned back into Typhos and flew up to punch Hades hard in the head. He was pushed into his blade. Hades, for the first time, felt a defeat. As he fell, the ceiling had been destroyed. Opening a way to the surface. The light of the sun had shown to in the Underground. Gabriel quickly utilize the time when Hades was unconscious to retreat. Hades lying on the ground regretted:

"(How foolish I am. It would have been easier if I learned Poseidon's mistake...) HOW CAN A MERE HUMAN OVERCOME A GOD!? I WILL NOT LET YOU GO!"

As soon as Gabriel got to the surface, he finally got to feel the Earth's fresh atmosphere again. However, the ground remained to tremble. From below, Hades had once again risen. His head turned into a skull. Burning flames were seen inside his eyes. He once again held the dark blade with black fire. Hades screamed to Gabriel's face in a mad and deep voice:

"I CAN NOT DIE TO ANYONE. ONLY YOU WILL DIE TO ME!."

As soon as Hades started to attack, a forgotten voice shouted out:

"HEY! HADES! It's been a long time!" - Iron
