Chapter 1 - Blue Roses that Lethe Covets (Ⅰ)

Hydrancea's soulless eyes gazed into the decorated ceiling , the grandeur that she lived in her previous life seemed like a distant memory to her , etching at her lobes . Was it just a dream or was it real ? . Was she , Hydrancea , Princess of an empire or Choi Yuri , heir apparent to a corporation , nothing made sense .

Since she strongly identified with the latter , she now felt trapped in the frail confines of a paralyzed princess's body, grappling with the bitterness of an unfamiliar concoction.

As Mary, her maid, gave the bitter remedy, a taste as bitter as the weight that accompanied her new existence, Hydrancea couldn't shake the sensation that she was swallowing the bitterness of the entire world. The transition from heiress to waking up paralyzed was a cruel twist of fate that echoed through the opulence of her surroundings.

"Do I really have to drink this" Hydrangea asked, fighting the urge to gag.

"Yes, miss. The doctor insists it helps in your ability to walk," Mary replied with a sternly.

Mary seemed very unique to Hydrancea , she could sense discomfort in Mary's moves yet she executed it so perfectly .

Hydrangea's thoughts swiftly shifted to the torment of her physical limitations, a defect that gnawed at her mind and the sorrow embedded in her memories – the loss of her mother during the great war and the Crown Princess Nora to the great plague – provided nothing but an jarring after taste .

She couldn make any sense out of it , she was having tea with her sister but now she was awake in a mysterious world .

Surrounded by three elder brothers and two younger ones, the weight of familial responsibilities rested heavily on Hydrangea's shoulders.

"Is something troubling you, miss? You seem preoccupied today," Mary enquired, detecting the princess's distraction.

"It's nothing, Mary. Just boredom. Can you please fetch me some parchment and a pen," Hydrangea requested, momentarily diverting her thoughts.

Mary's surprise was fleeting as she quickly composed herself. "Of course, miss. I'll bring them to you right away."

Alone with her thoughts, Hydrangea thought about the regaining mobility. Prosthetic legs crossed her mind, but she dismissed the idea. The search for a cure yielded no results, leaving her despondent. Then, like a revelation, the solution dawned upon her – a wheelchair.

The mere thought ignited a spark of hope in Hydrangea. Perhaps the wheelchair could act as her first step in protecting herself . Her situation seemed clear .

A paralysed princess with no one to lend her a shoulder , she needed power . Even back in Earth , influence and power were hard to earn but now in a world completely new to her .

The spent the next few our drawing a wheelchair from memory and dealing with an old nemesis of her , feasibility .

Step by step creating a functional wheelchair that does not defy the laws of physics (yet) , but it was all that she needed at the moment .

Mobility.

But after she was done , the similar feeling of uselessness deepened as she had to wait until Mary came to ask her to call a craftsman .

She was bothered by it very much , she acted and thought so much like Choi Yuri she was ready to believe she was that woman but everytime she was convinced, memories of a woman formed in front of her eyes .

She looked just like that woman and even her reflection in the cold soup was reminder that she was not Yuri and probably never was .

She was ready to spiral and the her sanity was kept only by Mary's company , something she found constant discomfort in , maybe it was the gentle force as she set the plate down on the table , the smile that Hydrancea was sure hurt her cheeks .

Mary did not like her.
