Pete tried not to let his expression give him away as he looked at his mother. Which of the employees could possibly have reported to his mother? Perhaps it was the secretary? Of course he knew the employees weren't loyal to him since he wasn't technically their boss, and had just come in to take over from his father. So it was likely that their loyalty was mostly to his parents, but that didn't give anyone the right to report his private business to his mother.Β
"Why are you not saying anything?" His mother asked, drawing his attention back to her. She was not only the wife of Chief Howells, but she was also a powerful woman and a big time politician, the sort politicians would go to when contesting for an election to help them organize the women and youths.Β
"Because I really don't think there is any need to say anything." Pete said without bothering to deny or accept the allegation.Β
"How can you say that?" She asked in a harsh tone.
