Chapter 16 - Drama Queen

Kathleen had worked her way into a very foul mood by the time she walked out of her room carrying a big bag which contained all the necessary things she would be needing for the weekend.

She said nothing to Pete as she got into the car, and the moment she shut the door she took out her phone to call her choirmaster, "Brother James, it's me Kathleen, can you hear me?" She asked immediately Brother James took the call.

"I'm sorry I can't attend tonight's rehearsal, my boss gave me an assignment, so I have to stay back." Kathleen explained before disconnecting the call.

It was as though Amanda could feel then tension between her father and Kathleen, she didn't say a word and neither did any of the two adults speak to each other. The only sound in the car was the music coming from the stereo which was connected to the Bluetooth of Pete's phone.

Pete hissed irritably when his phone started ringing again, and he took the call not bothering to disconnect it from the stereo, "I'll join you guys soon." Pete informed Ken irritably.

"Hey handsome... I just wanted to be sure you're still joining us and Ken isn't just trying to prank me." Kimberly's voice sailed over the car alongside the loud music which was playing in the background.

"Kim." Pete said with a grin.

"I see you still remember me." Kimberly said with a flirty giggle which made Kathleen want to hiss. So he had stopped her from attending her vigil simply because he wanted to hook up with a lady?

"When I'm not mad? How can I ever forget a you?" Pete asked making Kimberly screech with laughter.

"You obviously haven't lost your beautiful sense of humor. I'll be waiting for you then." Kimberly said in a sultry voice before disconnecting the call.

Pete had a grin on his face until his eyes met with Kathleen's eyes in the rearview mirror and he observed the way she was glaring at him. "Need I remind you that I'm your boss?" He asked with an evil smile, since something told him she was trying to refrain herself from saying something.

"Isn't that the only reason I'm not saying anything?" Kathleen asked and turned to look at Amanda who had fallen asleep.

"Good. As long as you remember that, then I guess we will get along pretty well." Pete said as he parked the car in front of a really big compound.

"You don't want to get down?" He asked as he got out of the car and went over to the other side of the car to carry Amanda.

Kathleen grudgingly picked up her bag and got out of the car to follow him inside. Immediately they entered the compound, a huge white dog bolted out from God knows where and tried pouncing on her.

"Blood of Jesus! Jesus!" Kathleen shrieked fearfully and shut her eyes very tightly, her heart beating really fast as the dog licked her hands.

Pete roared with laughter when he heard her calling for Jesus, "I never figured you to be a drama queen. Come on in, Pandora is harmless. She's just trying to introduce herself to you." Pete said without stopping to spare either lady or dog a glance.

Kathleen managed to open one eye to peek at Pandora and shut it immediately she noticed the dog was still looking at her. She remained there standing very still until the dog got tired and moved away from her.

"I don't have all night." Pete called from inside, making Kathleen snap out of whatever zone she had been in, it wasn't until she opened her eyes that she realized the dog had left already, so she quickly hurried in the direction she had seen Pete take.

"Wow! She finally made it!" Pete said dryly, "I'll show you to your room. That's the room you'll be using whenever you're around. Amanda shares a room with me for the time being, so you'll be using the room opposite mine." Pete said pointing to both rooms.

"She might wake up at night to eat, so I'll show you the kitchen." Pete said as he led the way to the kitchen. After showing her everything he considered important, he turned to look at her, "Do you have any question?"

"When are you coming back?" Kathleen asked, looking at the wall clock. The time was already past 8 PM.

"I'll be back when you see me. Goodnight."
