In the Ji'an World all cultivation came from a bloodline source. The true royalty and rulers among the many sects took mythical beasts such as the dragon or the Qilin as their sect totem animal but it had been many years since such creatures were seen in the world, and as powerful as these sects were, they were a shadow of their past.
The middling sects took weaker animals such as the lion or eagle, and though weaker these animals were still rather prevalent so a middling sect with a strong foundation could destroy a noble sect due to the fact their sect totem animal could be sourced and learned from. The weakest among the sects usually had domesticated animals as their sect totem animals, some took dogs or cats, but one particular sect in the Jianku province took chickens as their totem to the disdain of the surrounding sects.
On a 732nd day of the Tianming Calendar, a chicken was born. Normally this would be an unimportant matter, but this was in a small sect which took a chicken as their sect totem. Added to this, the owner of this chicken was the second son of the patriarch. Lu Wang.
"A black chicken!". Someone whispered.
"An ill omen!" Another chimed in.
"Silence!" , spoke the patriarch, and the tumult came to a halt. Lu Wang, walked up calmly, bit his finger to release blood and drew a symbol on the head of the obsidian coloured chicken. A quick flash of light signaled the spiritual contract complete. The matter came to an end, with a mix of muttered disappointment and relieved sighs depending on the factions of those around.
