Beotis came face to face with a countenance that could literally bring down countries and cities. A face so exceptional that one would never be able to forget it once they set their eyes upon it.
It was the face of none other than the young heir of the Arkwrights, Lord Eugene Von Arkwright.
For a split moment there, she stood stunned while ogling at the devastatingly beautiful man standing before her, unable to process any sane thoughts in her pretty little head. And when she finally came back to her senses, the overly beautiful man was already continuing on with his impatient tirade.
"Whatever is the matter, My Lady? Why do you look as if you had seen a ghost? Did you perhaps wish that I would parish in battle and die a sad gruesome death and hence now that you're seeing me all well and alive, you seem disappointed and stumped beyond belief?"
"....Wha-What!...."
Truth be told, the poison tongue of Eugene Arkwright really did bring Beotis out of her stupor and back to her senses. She couldn't believe that a man of that godly countenance could sprout out words of that venomous nature. It was as if a beautiful heavenly flower had suddenly morphed into an ugly dangerous snake right in front of her eyes.
"I have to say, have the lady's wits dropped to an even lower realm than before I went off to war?" The beautiful man's derisive words got even pricklier with each passing minute.
"What did you just say?" Beotis couldn't help but knit her brows gravely at that. Such blatantly vicious insults, never had Beotis ever had to face such crude insults in her life. No matter how good looking the man was, how could she forgive such a rude attempt of looking down on her.
Beotis did realize that the man might have been meaning not her but the original Beotis Lagraine, but so what? Now she was that Beotis Lagraine, wasn't she?
Her brows knitted and her eyes squinted, with a tensed posture, she was about to sprout out every ugly vulgar word of insult in her personal vocabulary when she heard a much flinty voice from behind her interrupt her noble potty mouth.
"Lord Arkwright!"
The voice was not that loud, but it had a kind of stern cold callousness to it, as if a warning.
"No matter how unsocial and stoic of a character you might possess, I still believe that is not a proper way to talk to a Lady Lord Arkwright, not to mention if the said lady is your supposed fiancée and my dear little sister."
Beotis turned on her heels to see an exceptionally handsome youth walking towards them. He was not the kind of soul-shatteringly beautiful like the man before her whose face was the kind that would stop you in your tracks, he was handsome from the depths of his eyes to the gentle expressions of his voice. Handsome in the sense of the soul that the man carried along with him.
"I implore to be pardoned if I caused any indiscretions against the young lord Thoren of the Lagraines, but this is a matter between Lady Lagraine and me alone. And as for the matter of being engaged, you have known all along that I had never acknowledged that engagement Thoren." The man spoke as a matter of fact-ly manner, aloof and indifferent as he seemed.
"You!... (Sigh!) It doesn't matter if you don't acknowledge this engagement, but as long as the reigning duke of the Arkwrights does not break off this engagement himself, or my father goes to voice out his annulment of this engagement, you shall be engaged even if you deny for a million times Eugene." The man called Thoren, who Beotis finally discovered to be her elder brother who she was supposed to be currying favour with, stood by her side as he took up a defensive stench.
"Whatever Thoren. I do not want to stay arguing the night out here with you any longer. I will see you later." And then he vaguely looked at Beotis with utter disgust in his eyes and said, "And it was certainly not very much a pleasure seeing Lady Lagraine tonight. Farewell to never meet again." With that, he turned around and left.
"What! Eugene!!! That brat!" Thoren who was gravely offended by Eugene's harsh words was left mumbling angry words of displeasure while Beotis was left shell-shocked by a new horrendous revelation.
Beotis Lagraine was Eugene Arkwright's fiancée!!??
