Fear jolts ran down her cold spine as she turned around and saw Lance approaching. "So you're intentionally going through my things?" His statement almost sounded like he was shouting at her.
"I'm sorry, I mean they're just papers…" She told him, her legs trembling.
"You don't get to go through my things, Elena!" He yelled at her. "You don't!"
"Hey, cool down." She snarled.
"These are confidential documents. You don't go around poking your nose in stuff like these. You might ruin my presentation Elena. I have my whole life built on this… why can't you just listen?"
"Hey, I'm sorry. I didn't know." Elena snapped, slamming her hands on her hips.
"How would you feel if I went through your diary?" He narrowed his eyes at her. "How would you feel?"
"Oh Lance, would you just stop overreacting?" She snarled further as her brows almost touched each other.
With a rising, anger-filled voice, Lance spoke. "Elena… I love you, a lot. And that is why I always give you your space. It might not be a big deal to you but these papers Elena, this is another part of my life and you just… DON'T EVER DO THAT AGAIN!"
"Whoa…" Elena froze, surprised at the same time. His face was nothing but mad, as he looked at her with darning cold blue eyes. Walking away from him, she told him. "Fine, I won't look into them again." She slowly walked to the door as she studied him strangely. She could feel her feet weakened by his stare and how they wanted to crumble on themselves.
"I'll be outside the building." She told him, as she took her suitcase and started dragging it behind her. She wasn't comfortable anymore inside this room, with him.
Once again, she stood solely outside the building as she trained her eyes at the familiar surroundings. A lot of things could surely happen in fifteen years. She slid her hand on the belly once again and gave out a subtle cry. Was she going to be happy? On one hand, she knew that Ethan's parents were hot on her trail while the man she had opted to do something within the coming near future was keeping secrets from her. Not that she wasn't keeping her secrets from him too. Was it too soon to call it quits. Was she ready enough to throw everything away and build on something else without him?
A soft pat on her back brought her back to the present. She turned around and saw Lance dressed in another pair of fresh clothes. Black sweatpants. Same shoes as earlier on and a black hoodie. He had in his hand his phone and a pair of glasses.
"So where to next?" He asked her, seeming to have moved on from their little episode that had occurred inside the hotel room.
"Oh… somewhere in Valle de Bravo. Here's the address." She answered him showing Lance the details of the place. There was no happiness in her voice.
"Okay then, let's go…" Lance finished the small conversation with a slight grin. A car pulled over from the far end of the building to where the two were standing. It was Lance's driver as it had been arranged by the State of Washington back home. Lance opened the door for her and got in after her on the left rear seat. The driver got in after he had put Elena's suitcase in the trunk, opened up some formality with Lance in English of course before they talked and talked for five minutes as Elena watched on.
"And who may this be?" The driver asked, eyes targeted on Elena. A name tag on his left chest gave out his name. Emilio. He seemed to be in his mid-forties. Black hair and wet lips were most of his easily recognizable features. Some wrinkles were also on his broad forehead.
"Oh, meet Elena. My…" he looked at her strangely. He didn't know what to call her now. "…girlfriend."
"Girlfriend… aah?" The man asked wallowing. "She's beautiful." He finished as he shook Elena's hand. Elena afforded a small smile. After the formalities were through, Lance explained where they were heading. The man got behind the wheels immediately and they stormed out of the square of the building into the road. Pretty slow traffic was easily noticeable at first as they snaked their way around the busy city. As they moved further and further away from the central business district, the traffic started to open itself and they were moving faster, unlike the cramped situation they were in earlier. After a fifty-minute drive, they were out of the city and on its outskirts. Vast lands sprung up from either side of the road, as the traffic died out and the pedestrian lines thinned along the highway. Elena's mind felt weary and she found herself dozing off on different occasions as the journey went on and on. Later on, she was dead asleep and Lance rested her temple on his chest as he held on to her choreographically.
"Elena… wake up." A soft warm voice shook her up from the deep slumber she was in. "Is this the place?"
She opened her eyes to see Lance pointing to a large blue gate in front of them. There was a wall that began from the gate and stretched for about twenty meters before it took a turn in its opposite direction. She opened her eyes, as she rendered what was going on. She got out of the car and looked around. There was a dirt road that had led them to the outside of the strange gate and beautiful flowers were planted on the outside. She looked around and noticed a similar rock. A large boulder by the dirt road that had a carving on it that resembled a flower. That rock had been there the last time she was here in Mexico, and it didn't need further proof to tell her that they were outside her aunt's home.
"Yes…" She answered him. "We're here." Her eyebrows shot up as a smile plastered itself on her face. She went over to the trunk of the car and pulled out her suitcase. Once she was successful in bringing it out, Lance asked her to step aside so he could take control. She walked towards the large gate and opened the small door on its side. She got in and immediately her eyes were estranged by how the place looked. It looked posh if anything. Well planted in line trees, that afforded some nice shade that stretched from the gate to the house that was a distance away. There was a pavement for people to walk on, clearly indicating the path to be followed inside the premises. There was an outside diner, filled with beautiful chairs and an oak wood table, near the pathway. The house's walls were made in marble stone and it was really beautiful on the outside, so appealing in choice and taste of design. Elena looked around, as the breathtaking scene swept her away like a tsunami. When she was last here, there were no such things that she was seeing now.
