Resting her temple on his chest, she heard how his heartbeat throbbed menacingly inside. Like he was actually scared for her safety. On the other end, Lance could feel her cold body. It was night and the temperatures had flopped. It was really cold. Why she wasn't in warm clothes still baffled him. She was cold.
"Why don't you like putting on something warmer? It's literally freezing."
She toured her eyes at him worriedly. She knew the reason why. Her mind got into a little discussion on whether to inform him about her status or just remain quiet about it. Elena knew that the moment Lance knew about the baby inside her, things between them could change in a snap. She wanted him to stay; starting the same routine with another guy was not on her to-do list for now. She would also hate him if he left her for such a small thing- a baby that was not his. She did however not register that it was small according to her. To all the other parties involved, it was a major and important extravaganza.
"I do not know." She told him later on. "I just do." She bit her lip regretfully. This time wasn't right for him and her.
Lance remained quiet for a long time as he held her close to him. "How is he?" He asked moments later as he released her from his embrace.
"He's okay... he's fine..." She filled in his inquiry quest.
"Are you sure?" He blurted at her, closely skimming her lovely face. "Your eyes look sad."
She chuckled. "It was a pretty intense conversation Lance." She snuffed. "It was really hard for the both of us. But I had to do it."
Lance nodded in return. "If you needed this... I hope that you've gotten what you were searching for. I hope you found him and made peace."
Elena smiled. "Enough about him, where's my surprise?" She asked curiously.
"Oh..." Lance blurted at her flirty. "Close your eyes."
"Why?" She chuckled.
"I said close your eyes," Lance told her softly.
Elena shrugged and shut her dark eyes, smiling. She muffled happily once. She heard some rumble and a lot of walking inside the small room as she wondered what Lance was up to. She heard something fall on the ground and heard him curse. She chuckled even further. She thought if he was actually drunk when she had switched on the lights when she entered the room moments earlier because the present Lance was nothing but sober.
"Okay...open your eyes." She heard Lance say.
She waited no more. She opened her eyes to meet the sudden surprise that she wasn't expecting.
There was a disco bulb hanging from the ceiling, replacing the light bulb that had been there earlier. The disco bulb had numerous shades of blue with some tints of light green and their lights lit up the room exquisitely. The colors rammed the room beautifully and brought a sudden romantic vibe to it. There was a bottle of champagne with two wine glasses on Elena's bed lamp's stand, and the tissue wipes on the floor weren't there anymore.
"Wow, this is so pretty!" She exclaimed as she toured her eyes around the room, walking along of course, before she finally rested her eyes on the cake behind her, on her bed.
"Thank you." He said in return. "Though not as much as you."
"Aww... you flatter me!" Elena drawled. She took another look at the room. This time, something from the back of her mind came rushing into her thoughts. The room looked exactly like the basement of the Purcells home where couples danced around to romantic tunes during the farewell party. It only lacked two things; Ethan and the musi...
Some song started playing and she heard its sound come from her left. She turned around in the direction of the music and settled her eyes on the speakers releasing the harmonious and peaceful tune, from Lance's phone... probably connected by Bluetooth.
She looked at him, eyebrows shot up again. She wasn't expecting this, let alone from Lance. The young gentleman stepped closer to her, bravery and boldness expressed to its most extreme on his face.
"Elena, the truth is," Lance began as he handed her one glass, "the day of the farewell party, I wanted it to be our day. Just me and you. I wanted to have a special moment with you that day. I wanted to hold your hand and feel you that close to me. I wanted to do a lot of good things to you that day."
Elena's eyes widened and her ears got sharper when he spoke. They were on him. She slid her fingers to the neck of the glass as he poured the wine from the neatly uncorked bottle of champagne. She looked at the drink curiously.
"But I messed up Elena, and I know that was my fault." He continued. "I was a jerk and I deserved what you did to me that day. But Elena I wanted to make that night special for you. Whatever happened that day was not what I wanted at all.
"When I saw you dancing with Ethan that night, I imagined that you would be holding me, and not him. So here I am Elena… asking for another opportunity. Give me the honor to dance with you today, please."
Elena felt the stinging of her eyes as his speech burrowed inside her, to her soul. He was so well composed and he didn't seem like he had rehearsed it earlier on. He seemed warm by the way he was looking at her, his blue eyes being lit harmoniously with the disco bulb.
"I told you were going to make new memories together... better ones." Lance continued his romantic rant. "I want to correct that night's memory. I wanna give you what you deserved that night. Which is nothing but pure happiness. You haven't been happy for a long time and I want you to be happy once again."
Truth be told, his chimed speech got the best of her. Elena's smile broadened. This could work. The Lance-Elena thing could actually work! They clinked their glasses and when she was about to drink hers, she stopped. Lance had already taken a sip of his. He looked at her worriedly.
"What's wrong?" He asked.
"Lance, you know how I do with alcohol." Elena told him.
