"Keep quiet!" Ethan told her as he covered her mouth and dragged her away from the window and the table. He was getting angry and impatient with her. He wanted just one thing from her and it seemed like Elena wasn't going to give him.
"Let me go! Let me go! Let me go!" She yelped at the top of her lungs after finally pushing his hand from her mouth. He was now closer to her, and she could feel his cold body. He smelt like hot rotten banana peels too. Ethan immediately let her go choreographically and she landed on the floor without any scratch. She watched him as he snuffed every now and then, his hands wiping his tears. He stood between her and the door, exhaustion and fright crested on his facial features.
She got up to her feet in much agony and walked towards the bed- away from him in that odd walking manner. And he saw it. All of it. The pain from down below wasn't invincible and he couldn't believe what he was seeing yet again. "Oh my God!" He mumbled from closed eyes. After a long walk, she finally reached her bed and sat on it. Her legs hanged closely to the ground. She looked up and he was there, standing in front of her, two meters away. She was now shaking seeming to be out of any more ideas to pull off from her sleeves. She just looked at him and waited for him to do something. He waited for the same from her.
"You did this to me!" Elena cried out pointing to her face finally. She slid her gown from her shoulder so slightly that he could see a scar on her left shoulder. "You did this to me." She continued, raised her gown a bit and he saw the dents on the legs. "You've seen how I have struggled to walk. You did that to me." He gulped his saliva as he blinked to prevent his tears from coming out again.
"I want you to see what you've done to me. Ethan, I trusted you. I loved you! I was willing to give you a chance! But with this…all this…Ethan, just go find another person and ask for their forgiveness. You won't be getting it from me. Never!"
He closed his eyes for an instant. The words stabbed through the flesh and bones of his body. It cut across his heart. He felt low. It was very clear that Elena was in no moods whatsoever for him. He felt betrayed– betrayed by himself. If he could rewind the clock and set things straight he would. But what was done was done. And he wouldn't be able to travel back in time to change anything.
"Elena please!" His voice sounded heavier and seemed like it was in distress.
Suddenly the door was banged! Then another bang, but much louder. Ethan turned around and looked at it.
"Elena! Elena! Open the door!" Someone shouted. She recognized the frightened voice of her mother. The banging continued one more time. Some other male voices warned for someone inside to open the door. Ethan turned back to her. His time was up.
"Elena please…" He cried out getting closer to her.
"You rapist!" she yelled. "Don't come near me!"
He did not wither. He closed the distance.
"I'm sorry! Believe me, I am." He told her.
"Go away! I said don't come near me!" She screamed again.
"Elena open the door!" Lynn shouted.
"Elena, please. Forgive me…I'm sorry. I wasn't myself. Please. PLEASE!"
"Get away from me! Leave me alone!!!!"
"Elena hold on! We are coming!"
He trembled as he approached her cautiously tears stroking either side of the face with their salty waters. He was running out of time. It was a big deal to him and he couldn't believe that he was actually going nowhere with this.
"Elena…" He really had no words to say.
"You will rot in prison! You will spend your whole life there. And when you get out finally dead, your name will have been already forgotten. The world will forget you! I will forget you!" She sounded bitter. These weren't the words that easily came from her to a person like him but either way, here they were and she meant them each and every one of them! "And those who will still be remembering you, they will remember you as a rapist! Because that's actually what you are!" She tried to sound brave despite her heavy-breaking voice.
Ethan was lost for words. He looked at her still trying to contemplate that this was a new reality. He wished that he would get some remorse from her. He felt beaten. There was a sound of keys opening the door behind him. He got on his knees and put his hands behind his head in time for the police who had been alerted of his whereabouts to budge in and arrest him– again. His plan was a big fail.
"Elena…I'm sorry…" he repeated one more time in a loud sharp cry. "I'm so sorry!"
The police got to him and handcuffed him as Elena watched. Lynn raced to her daughter instantly and she wept into her red blouse. They watched Ethan get dragged away in cuffs by the police. Elena tried to calm down though Ethan's presence there seemed to have worsened things. But the rest of the day would get better for her. A security guard would be stationed with her for the next twenty four hours and more before she would go home. She answered some more questions from the police and Ms. Weiss in relation to what Ethan was doing at the hospital. Her mom promised her that she would not leave her side until when she was safe back in their home. Caroline would stay at a neighbor's house for the night before the two strolled out of the hospital the next day.
Ethan was taken back to West Precinct Police Department (W.P.P.D) for some questioning, and also to be held there because that's actually where he belonged. Paul was still present at the station and he got the opportunity to talk to Ethan again. But Ethan had worsened the situation that Paul wasn't even interested in hearing him. Jensen, the interrogator was tougher this time. And the questions he asked left Ethan in a corner of guilt that he couldn't dig himself out now. Paul didn't even bother to help him. It seemed he had one plan-where Ethan would just plead guilty and receive a lesser sentence. With the recent accounts added to his weird bucket list he had been charged with (sexual assault, resisting an arrest, damage of public assets, and escaping from police custody) it was evident that this was no child's play to the arm of the law. The hole he was digging kept getting deeper and deeper and it seemed that there was no way that he would get himself out of it. He was facing a serious jail term. He knew that. Ethan tried as much as possible to be uncooperative as Paul watched on. He kept noting down some things every now and then, same as Jensen. Paul tried to act as if he cared but deep down the father-son relationship had been crumbled. There was no need to save the sunken ship.
