Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

After walking a couple of blocks I had finally arrived at my house. I opened the door after unlocking it, finding my mother on the couch watching the news.

"Mom stop watching the news. Your nightmares are just going to get worse and your screaming are going to get louder. You know we both don't need that." I said walking over to the television, turning it off.

My mother looked at me after the television had been turned off. "It's safe for me to watch the news. Plus it's only the preview of the president's speech from this morning. They show it repeatedly till Friday when the president gives an update. So please, no watching the television this week." She said.

"Mom..." I started, sitting next to her on the couch. "My Social Studies teacher showed me and the whole class a video of some of the event. It was of you and dad. I have no idea how my teacher got it, and it was most likely to be the government. But it showed me being born during this event, while dad was affected." I said as my mother quickly turned her eyes away and stared at the blank television.

My mother had stayed silent. "Mom, what are you not telling me? You can't just say it's nothing because this is a big thing that you can't keep from me any longer. What are you hiding?" I asked trying to look into my mother's eyes.

I waited a while for her to give me an answer. But she had still sat there silent as if I had never asked her anything.

"Fine, don't talk. But until you answer me I'm not going to talk to you. Since your not talking to me about any of what I had just said." I said as I stood up and went to my room in disappointment.

I put my book bag down on the side of my bed after grabbing my phone. Than after putting the password to unlock it. I texted Sidney about what had just happened. Trevor was to real. He had always saw things from other people's perspective and all I need is for someone to see from my perspective and understand what I'm going through.

After five minutes Sidney texted me back. Wow. Are you really not going to speak to her? She's still your mother. I mean what if she had a good reason for saying nothing.

I had thought about what she had said. Well why would she be hiding something that big? Do you think I should do an investigation since she's not going to talk anytime soon?

After ten minutes Sidney finally responded. Yeah. But you should be careful. If this is something big and your mother finds you snooping. You could get into serious trouble.

I knew that my mother would be upset if I do cross the line. But I had asked her countless times. Now that I know some type of information about what happened with my mother and father during The Gas Meltdown. I can't just do nothing and pretend not to want to know more. I've wanted to know ever since I found out my mother surprisingly wasn't affected. If going against my mother's wishes is what I have to do to get answers. Than this is worth it.

I know where my mom keeps secret files. In a box that is in the downstairs closet. It's labeled ' keep out' for obvious reasons I responded.

Ten seconds later she responded back. Ok, best to start there. Remember to be careful and to do the homework assignment. I'm here for you so text me if you find anything good. I go to go, good luck.

After texting her ok I stood up, bring my phone with me. I slowly tip toed out of my room and down the steps. After finding my mother nowhere to be seen my phone had vibrated. It was a text from my mother.

I'm going to go shopping. When I get back you better not be acting like you did when I left the house. I'll be back in a half hour. She said. But I didn't bother responding.

I walked into the living room looking around trying to remember where I had last seen the closet. As soon as I had focused my eyes near the bookshelves I had finally seen the white camouflaged door that blended in perfectly with the wall. I opened it than reached inside for a box. I felt the box than grabbed and than pulled it out. I opened the box and found some papers that had my name on it at the very top. But there was another name on the bottom of every paper. The name had read, Jessica Miller. I was surprised. Our family name was Jeniffer. Who could Jessica Miller be? I asked myself as I held the paper in thought. I packed up the box and put it back in its rightful place. I went up stair into my room and went on my laptop. Before I had moved on any farther, I called Sidney. Thankfully she answered.

"Hello, Rose?" Sidney said

"Hey Sidney I got a little bit of information from the secret box." I said putting her on speaker.

"Really? What is it? What did you find?" She asked in excitement.

"Well I found a name, Jessica Miller." I said typing it in the search bar.

My eyes widen as I had kept looking at the screen in shock. I stayed silent for a few minutes. When I came back to reality I heard Sidney's voice in my ear.

"Rose! Rose! Are you ok? What did you find?" She asked many times.

I took a breath and spoke. "It said that Jessica Miller was born during the big event of The Gas Meltdown. It says that she was a child that had been affected by the gas. That till this very day the government, police, and the whole United States are looking for her and when found will be put in a big chamber and tested on as soon as possible."

For five minutes I couldn't hear nothing but silence. Then Sidney had finally spoken "I'm honestly speechless. That information can't be 100% be true. No child has ever gotten affected. It was always the adults."

"Yes I know. That's why when my mom gets home. I'm talking to her. I'll text you what she says." I said in a serious tone.

She hung up the phone after saying ok.

Fifteen minutes later I hear the door slam down stairs.

"Honey I'm home." She yelled from the steps.

I went down stair and walked to the kitchen where I found her putting away food. "Mom I'm going to ask you a question, and if you say nothing after it I'm leaving this house and I will never come back."

My mother stood straight up with shock. She waited for the question "Who is Jessica Miller?" I asked.

My mother frozen in fear and in more shock. I waited to hear something come from her mouth. But nothing was said. I went to the front door to put my shoes on.

"I'm going to pack my things. And I'm not coming back. I can't live with a mother that doesn't trust me." I said trying no to show the sadness in my eye.
