"Help me! Alexia is trying to kill me!"
Damon heard Ciara's voice echo in his head. Immediately, adrenaline shot through his veins. He didn't even stop to think. He didn't plan a thing. He just raced towards Ciara.
All he knew was that Ciara needed help and it was up to him to save her life or he was going to lose another werewolf to the hunters.
He ran at a speed only Alphas could have. Some werewolves noticed him running and wanted to ask questions but he was going too fast to even get a single question.
He got out of their clan and raced through the woods. He didn't have to turn. He was only going to turn into his wolf form if the situation had gotten out of hand.
He could still hear Ciara's voice echoing through the link in his head. With her voice still ringing, he could easily locate her. He was getting farther away from his territory and beginning to enter into the Hunter's territory.
What was Ciara even doing here? He asked himself.
He soon picked up her scent in the air and this helped increase his pace at tracking her. He also picked another familiar scent. The scent of a mixture of pine, lilies, and freshwater.
Alexia.
He knew he was close as he hit bushes due to his speed. He soon made it to the clearing and caught sight of Alexia as she was about to stab Ciara to death.
On impulse, he took a stone and threw it hard at the knife Alexia was about to dig into Ciara's chest. It fell off and Alexia looked up angrily at the intruder. Damon growled at her and her eyes widened when she saw that it was him. The Alpha Damon Hendrix.
In the few moments of her distraction, Ciara scurried out of her grasp and she came to stand behind Damon. He stood protectively between Ciara and Alexia.
This pissed off Alexia so bad. To the extent that Damon could hear Alexia gritting her teeth in anger. Her chest rose and fell visibly and her glare was deadly. It was directed at both of them.
"Move aside Alpha and let me finish what I started," She said firmly.
Damon remained where he was. Ciara clung to Damon's left hand as if her life depended on it. She was already in a sorry state.
"I'm afraid I can't do that Huntress," Damon refused.
Her dangerous glare only intensified. There seemed to be so much power lying within her brown eyes.
"Move. Aside. Alpha! Or you'll force me to attack you too," She threatened.
Alpha Damon tilted his head in surprise. "Did you just threaten me, Huntress?" Damon demanded. The surprise and amazement was evident in his voice.
"If you continue to stand in my way, then I will do more than threatening you. I. Will. End. You!" Alexia added firmly.
The fact that she was so courageous and brave amazed Damon. She was indeed feisty and fierce. He had to give it to her.
"You realise that I'm an Alpha, right? It takes a lot of hunters to subdue an Alpha like me. What can a mere little Huntress like you truly do? I'll snap your neck within seconds," Damon revealed.
Her demeanor never faltered. She didn't show any sign of fear but her anger only rose. She felt insulted and reduced. He was underestimating her potential. He didn't know just how capable she was.
"You think you're untouchable because you're an Alpha? You think you can do just as you please? You're wrong. You're totally mistaken!" Alexia spat.
Ciara remained silent as she clung to Damon. Maybe she was overdoing it at one point.
Damon narrowed his eyes on her. "Say whatever you want but the truth about this very moment will never change," Damon told her.
"What truth?" Alexia demanded with authority laced in her voice.
"The fact that I won't let you have your heart's desire. I won't let you kill Ciara. I will walk away with her and you will watch us leave!" Damon spat.
"You're wrong!" Alexia yelled and picked up her knives which had fallen earlier.
Alpha Damon let out a menacing growl. This was supposed to scare her off but on the contrary, it only increased her desire for a battle.
Alexia took the lead in attacking. She always liked to attack first. It was her battle strategy. Damon swiftly stepped out of the way of her daggers.
She attempted more swipes at him and he dodged every single one. She rolled to her knees and tried to cut his legs but of course, he was very fast. He dodged every single attack.
She didn't relent. She jumped in the air and landed another attack. This time, Damon revealed his class and blocked the attack. The clash of both opponents resonated in the woods. This didn't stop them.
Alexia was stubborn and she didn't want to give up. She was hell-bent on finishing off the Alpha.
Despite the fact that Damon was blocking every attack, she was fast and each time she kept coming back with a better attack than the last. She seemed to have a lot of energy to exhaust and she wasn't running out of it.
All these things fascinated Damon. Her agility, her strength, her bravery and her stubbornness. He almost chuckled at the thought of her entire existence. This was the person the moon goddess had given to him as a second chance mate.
Eventually, Alexia managed a cut at Damon's arm. He growled at the pain. The cut burned him and went on forever. She was using silver blades. He looked down at her and found that she was smiling in satisfaction. It was pleasing to her that she had succeeded in cutting him.
He pressed his lips together in anger. He had had enough of the little dance. It was time to put Alexia in her place.
This time, he led the attack. She thrusted her knives out and he caught her hands. He squeezed hard on both her hands as if he wanted to break them. She cried out and dropped the knives in the process.
She tried struggling under his grip but he didn't let her go. She tried to use her legs and he blocked every attempt with his.
Then he pushed her towards a tree and pinned her to it. She kept struggling and fighting him. She was like a rebel under his hold as she twisted and turned.
He lost his patience and growled loudly in her face. This startled her and she went still. They remained unmoving as they stared into each other's eyes.
It was as if time stopped at that moment. They both gazed into each other's eyes. It was as if there was a pull in their eyes. It was a strong attraction that they could not understand. She felt like his companion and at the same time his enemy. He could almost see her soul deep within. Her eyes seemed to tell a tale from the past that he knew and did not know.
No one blinked. No one spoke. Only stillness and quietness. Everything seemed to have melted away. No sound, no air, just their eyes.
Then just like that, everything came back to normal. The sounds came back, the trees came back, the air resumed floating around them and they remembered they were enemies.
He released her violently and she fell on her rump. He towered above her as he looked down at her. Then he turned away and walked up to Ciara.
"Let's leave!" He ordered and Ciara never said a word. She followed him without arguing.
He could feel her eyes on his back as he walked away from her. She didn't try to attack them anymore. She did not say one word. She allowed them to leave. Maybe she had accepted defeat, or maybe she was as shaken as he was from what just happened.
Thoughts raced through his mind. He couldn't understand what had happened or what it had meant. How could he know it all and not know at all? He had felt that way when he got lost in her eyes.
What did the moon goddess really have in store for them? What was her plan?
"Are you okay Damon?" Ciara asked, breaking him out of his chain of thoughts.
He looked down at her as if just noticing she was there. He had totally forgotten about her existence.
"I'm fine. Besides, what were you doing here? In the Hunter's territory?" Damon demanded.
"I don't know how I got here. I must have gotten lost in my own thoughts," Ciara lied.
She couldn't tell him that she had come there to threaten Alexia.
"You should be more careful next time. Those Hunters can kill you within split seconds. I can't have them do it. Please, be careful," Damon warned.
Ciara only nodded her head in response but deep down, she knew she was going to get back at Alexia for almost killing her.
She was going to kill her.
